Arbitration

  • Following the banning of an editor by the WMF last year, the Arbitration Committee resolved to hold an RfC regarding on-wiki harassment. The RfC has been posted at Wikipedia:Arbitration Committee/Anti-harassment RfC and is open to comments from the community.
  • The Medicine case was closed, with a remedy authorizing standard discretionary sanctions for all discussions about pharmaceutical drug prices and pricing and for edits adding, changing, or removing pharmaceutical drug prices or pricing from articles.

Request for "un-revdel"

Regarding the revdel action at Ariarathes IX of Cappadocia, I have been contacted by CGPavlos, who points out that the copied text at CoinTalk.com was posted by him, and, according to that site's Terms and Rules, forum post authors retain copyright of the text they post there, so my tagging and your revdel action may not have been valid. I don't have access to the redacted copy, so I'm not sure if any reliable sources were cited. If not, there is no point restoring the text, but if sources were cited, it may be worth restoring the revdel'ed text so that it can be evaluated. WikiDan61ChatMe!ReadMe!! 12:44, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

@WikiDan61: The revdel'd content contains two references (Mørkholm, O. “The Coinages of Ariarathes VIII and Ariarathes IX of Cappadocia” in Essays Robinson & Mørkholm, O. “A Further Comment on the Coinages of Ariarathes VIII and Ariarathes IX” in QT 1975) so neither refer to cointalk.com. Other than the similarities in username we have no idea if CGPavlos is the person who made the contributions at cointalk and reading that site's T&Cs I don't see any cc-by-sa release. I'm not doubting it is the same person but I think it should go through OTRS to release that piece of text or probably easier is just rephrase it. Nthep (talk) 14:28, 2 July 2020 (UTC)
I've left him a note. Nthep (talk) 15:12, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Thank you. Links to Google books are difficult when you only get snippet views and the snippets can vary depending on where in the world you are. From where I am to google.in and nothing vaguely like this quote showed up. Nthep (talk) 18:33, 2 July 2020 (UTC)

Template:Whitehaven, Cleator and Egremont Railway RDT

Recently, as you will recall, you were instrumental in removing the non-existant station of Coulderton Halt from the Template:Cumbrian Coast Line RDT and I note that the same non-existant station still appears on the main line that is shown at the left of this particular RDT. Since you were the person who deleted Coulderton Halt on the other RDT, it only seems courteous to you if could you also do the same on this RDT.

Xenophon Philosopher (talk) 01:48, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Many thanks for making the amendment.

Xenophon Philosopher (talk) 19:30, 16 July 2020 (UTC)

Template:West Cumbrian Railways

Recently, you amended Template:Cumbrian Coast Line RDT to clarify the Piel branch line at the foot of the template, showing Salthouse Halt, Rampside, Piel stations. Can you be so kind as to similarly make the same clarification on this template, as Salthouse Halt seems to have been omitted. It may be useful to exactly repeat the style you used on the other template from Barrow-in-Furness onwards to the foot of the line diagram.

Has a decision been reached by Wikipedia on whether or not to delete this template?

Challenge Cup Finals

Sorry, but just another point regarding our previous discussion. Would you say that the 2011 Challenge Cup is worthy of having the final on a separate page. As it's pretty much identical to 2009 just missing the "Route to the final section"? Mn1548 (talk) 16:03, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

@Mn1548: I think it would be ok to split off but leave a summary behind like the 2016 etc have at the moment. Nthep (talk) 18:20, 21 July 2020 (UTC)
OK Mn1548 (talk) 18:23, 21 July 2020 (UTC)

Undeletion request

Could you undelete File:Das Lachen wird ihnen vergehen!!!.jpg ‎? The issue with this file is that it's difficult or impossible to prove that it's public domain in US to the standards expected at A-class or FA review, so it needs to be marked fair use for the article. (t · c) buidhe 18:44, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

@Buidhe: If and when the Commons file is deleted, I'll restore it but as there doesn't appear to be any deletion discussion on Commons there doesn't appear to be a need for a non-free version here. Nthep (talk) 19:39, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
In order to for the article to pass image reviews at high levels (A-class or featured article), the image needs to demonstrate beyond significant doubt that it is free in the US as well as the source country. This is lower than the threshold for keeping on commons because Commons admins will usually refuse to delete files if they can be shown to be free in the source country. So unless the file is undeleted, I just don't see how I can nominate the article at these higher levels which I was planning to do... (t · c) buidhe 19:51, 28 July 2020 (UTC)
@Buidhe: Commons files have to be free in the US and the source country. If you don't think this file is PD in the US then you should ask for it to be deleted from Commons or have the discussion there as to whether or not it is free in the US. Depending on the outcome of that discussion will determine how we go here on wp. Nthep (talk) 20:08, 28 July 2020 (UTC)

Wikiproject Military history coordinator election nominations open

Nominations for the upcoming project coordinator election are now open. A team of up to ten coordinators will be elected for the next year. The project coordinators are the designated points of contact for issues concerning the project, and are responsible for maintaining our internal structure and processes. They do not, however, have any authority over article content or editor conduct, or any other special powers. More information on being a coordinator is available here. If you are interested in running, please sign up here by 23:59 UTC on 14 September! Voting doesn't commence until 15 September. If you have any questions, you can contact any member of the coord team. Peacemaker67 (click to talk to me) 02:06, 1 September 2020 (UTC)

File:KIAH 2018 Logo.png

Hi Nthep. Would you mind taking a look at File:KIAH 2018 Logo.png? The file appears to be licensed as {{PD-logo}} which means it's older versions are not subject to WP:F5. I'm not sure why the bot tagged it as such, but perhaps there some syntax mistake that's causing the bot to still treat the file as non-free. — Marchjuly (talk) 22:10, 2 September 2020 (UTC)

I asked the uploader of the most recent version about this at User talk:Mrschimpf#File:KIAH 2018 Logo.png and their response at User talk:Marchjuly#KIAH seems to indicate that they feel the version they uploaded is non-free. I'm not seeing that per c:COM:TOO United States but if that's the case, then the older PD version shouldn't have really been overwritten by a new non-free version. Even if both files are PD but significantly different, there was still no need to overwrite the older version. Can you restore the older versions and then split the most recent version off as a separate file if it's significatnly different? -- Marchjuly (talk) 05:41, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
The bot did nothing wrong, it saw a file marked with {{Orphaned non-free revisions}} and acted accordingly i.e. flagging it for human revision. The errors were both human. Nate shouldn't have tagged the file with this template as it is labelled as a free (PD-textlogo) file and I shouldn't have deleted the old revisions without noticing that it was a PD image. I've reverted the file to the 2018 logo and uploaded the 2020 logo as a separate file File:KIAH 2020 Logo.png. Nthep (talk) 16:47, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
Thank you for rechecking this. I also apologize for the tone of my posts. I was only trying to find out why this had happened and it wasn't my intent to accuse anyone (even a bot) of doing anything wrong. In hindsight, I probably should've phrased things different. Thank you again. -- Marchjuly (talk) 00:17, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
No apology necessary, there was nothing wrong with the tone but I thought it needed a full explanation of what had happened. Nthep (talk) 08:49, 4 September 2020 (UTC)

Semi-protection

You just applied semi-protection to the Basque mythology page for 36 hours. The problem is not solved with a Semi-protection. The user Akerbeltz acts like this continuously and repeatedly. 7 rollbacks in the last 24 hours, violates the three rollback rule 3RR, and the edit war BRD. As I say, it is not the first time and I am very afraid that it will not be the last. Applying semi-protection to the page he always wins and gets away with it. This person has been reported several times for this reason but uses administrator privileges and always wins. This is a serious matter of privileges of administrators who use them who use them with premeditation and treachery to violate the established laws of Wikipedia, someone should take action on the matter and restrict or cancel their privileges when they use them to break laws.--85.85.193.226 (talk) 16:38, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

@85.85.193.226: and you were equally at fault in edit-warring and failing to go with BRD. No one is getting away with it, I asked you both to discuss on the talk page, which you have although not to any consensus as yet. If you cannot agree then you should look to getting a Third opinion or some other form of dispute resolution. The semi-protection stops the edit war on the article even if it does not stop the two of you disagreeing on the talk page. Nthep (talk) 16:45, 11 September 2020 (UTC)

You're right. Thank you very much.--85.85.193.226 (talk) 20:03, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
