Next Linked Data for Libraries LD4 Wikidata Affinity Group call July 26, 2022: Clair Kronk, Crystal Clements, and Alex Jung will be providing an update to Wikidata/gender discussions from the February 8 call with a focus on pronouns. Clair will introduce us to LGBTdb, a Wikibase instance created for and by LGBTQIA+ people from which we draw insight in Wikidata-related discussions. We also hope to discuss current pain points and share action items for future collaboration. Input from community members who are familiar with lexicographical data would be greatly appreciated. Agenda
Teaching Wikidata Editing Practices II (in Chinese) - YouTube
Tool of the week
User:Magnus Manske/referee.js - is a userscript that automatically checks external IDs and URLs of a Wikidata item as potential references, and adds them with a single click.
Lexicographical data: We went over all the feedback we received for teh testing of the new Special:NewLexeme page and started addressing it and fixing the uncovered issues. One issue already fixed is a bug that prevented it from working on mobile view. (phab:T313116)
Mismatch Finder: investigated how we can make it work for mismatches in qualifiers instead of the main statement (phab:T313467)
REST API: Continued working on making it possible to replace and remove a statement of an Item
We enabled the profile parameter to the wbsearchentities API on Test Wikidata (phab:T307869)
We continued making Wikibase resolve redirects when showing Item labels and descriptions in more places (phab:T312223)
Heads up. I tagged it for an RD1 request, but I think it may be public domain since it was published in New Zealand. However, I don't want to trigger any filters. I apologize for any disruption. Scorpions13256 (talk) 04:25, 24 July 2022 (UTC)
Hi Nthep, thank you for answering so many revdels! I just wanted to get your thought rationale behind these two requests of mine (Abba Estifanos and Litani River Dam), as I see them as pretty similar cases. Why was Abba Estifanos declined while Litani was accepted? Sennecaster (Chat) 00:46, 29 July 2022 (UTC)
@Sennecaster there's a variety of things (a non exhaustive list) that I consider:
how far back does the copyright go?
what proportion of the article is a copyvio?
how many other editors have edited the article in the interim?
how significant are those other editors contributions to the article?
how blatant was the original copy violent?
If, for example, a copyvio has gone unnoticed for several years but the only edits since then have been gnomeish things like typos, categories, small additions, then I'd probably revdel the lot. If it was a more recent copyvio but there have been considerable and substantial changes to the article text by other editors, I might decline the revdel under the large scale use clause of WP:REVDEL.
Alright, thanks! I figured it was probably admin discretion/inconsistencies, but just wanted to make sure :) Happy revdeleting,Sennecaster (Chat) 18:37, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

Wikidata weekly summary #531
Extended content
Here's your quick overview of what has been happening around Wikidata over the last week.
Wikidata Birthday is taking place in October 2022, and together we are celebrating 10 amazing years of Wikidata with decentralized community events! Discover more Wikidata:Tenth Birthday -- organize an event and get funding
Thanks for tirelessly working through revdel requests and keeping articles clear of copyvios! Your work is greatly appreciated. Complex/Rational21:48, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
Indeed, it is a challenging and thankless line of work, though someone needs to do the tedious job of taking out the trash... Complex/Rational22:11, 4 August 2022 (UTC)
An RfC has been closed with consensus to add javascript that will show edit notices for editors editing via a mobile device. This only works for users using a mobile browser, so iOS app editors will still not be able to see edit notices.
An RfC has been closed with the consensus that train stations are not inherently notable.
Administrators will now see links on user pages for "Change block" and "Unblock user" instead of just "Block user" if the user is already blocked. (T308570)
Arbitration
The arbitration case request Geschichte has been automatically closed after a 3 month suspension of the case.

Wikipedia is not a repository of reddit discussions speculating on obscure and hypothetical topics. If the topic is truly notable then you could provide multiple, reliable sources about the topic, not a single reddit drama board. Nthep (talk) 20:39, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
No, it needs reliable sources - please read the links I gave above, not just fan speculation, theorising and discussion. Nthep (talk) 20:43, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
No Im not saying that the AL queda dudes read harry potter and said HELL YEAH LETS FLY A PLANE INTO SOME TOWERS im saying theres a lot of people who think harry potter could have stopped 9/11 and theres a big enough drama post that it could be relevent for wiki pedia.!!!!70.56.147.118 (talk) 21:24, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

You redacted (revdel'd) some material from this article about twelve hours ago. A request was filed at DRN to discuss the deletion, by an editor who says that Mr. Blinken's words are in the public domain. I closed the DRN request as outside the scope of DRN, because we are not a copyright forum. I would appreciate if you would review my closure and provide any additional information to the filing editor. I can't see what was deleted, but, from your edit summary, I am inferring that the editor who copied the material was copying an account of Mr. Blinken's statement that was published in a news medium, in which case the news medium has copyright on the reporting of his words. Please check whether I closed the matter correctly. Thank you.
Robert McClenon (talk) 04:06, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
@Robert McClenon I agree with your close. The material was copied from a news medium and there was no way of ascertaining if the news outlet were quoting Blinken accurately or summarising his speech. Nthep (talk) 10:22, 6 August 2022 (UTC)

what's the difference between having 0|0 next to the results on the championship results page?... i'm confused (lol)...
on the super league results page, it doesn't have it.
i don't really understand what it means...
The template {{0}} allows you to keep the scores in alignment with each other by inserting invisible characters so you can balance the number of characters each side of the dash i.e. the dash is always in the centre.
Hi Nthep, just a quick query as I would like to be clear myself regarding content from LOC, especially as you took a view regarding a recent revdel request from their site. I was (mistakenly, perhaps?) of the view that it isn't necessarily the case that all content on LOC is PD, and their copyright page seems to support that as a general idea (admittedly it generally refers to items, rather than prose, but implies that not all content published there is PD). Please can you kindly confirm for me why the prose content on the page https://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/matpc/background.html would be classed as PD (as I observe from the bottom that the content is attributed to individuals)? It would help me to understand better if I encounter any future copy-pastes from pages within the LOC. Many thanks. Bungle(talk • contribs)16:46, 10 August 2022 (UTC)
@Bungle The text at https://www.loc.gov/pictures/collection/matpc/background.html is credited to "Verna Curtis, Curator of Photography, and Arden Alexander, Cataloger". From the titles it implies they were at the time employees of the LoC and as such their work is PD as the text is "a work prepared by an officer or employee of the United States Government as part of that person's official duties."
