THE WIKIPEDA IRC SPAM PROJECT IS RECRUITING NOW

WHY ME
Your recent request to use VandalProof software has been refused as you have too few edits to the English Wikipedia.
We need editors to look through recently edited pages and decide whether the links are spam or not.
If the link qualifies as spam, you will need to revert the page to remove the link and warn the 'spammer'.
This will increase your edit count and allow the VandalProof team to approve you in future !
In fact, the Wikipedia IRC Spam Project shares many VandalProof administrators and users.
HOW TO JOIN

  • 1. Install an IRC client.
(ChatZilla, IceChat and X-Chat are free. X-Chat works on all platforms) - a full list is available here.
  • 2. Visit irc://irc.freenode.net/wikipedia-spam
This channel lists, in real time, all external links added to Wikipedia.
Around 50% of the links listed are suspicious and need to be checked.
We flag especially suspicious links in RED.
  • 3. Begin Checking Links
Click on any diff (the Wikipedia URL) listed in the IRC channel to begin checking and reverting as necessary.
    If you revert, remember to place a spam warning {{subst:spam1}} → {{subst:spam4}}
We need to be able to block persistent spammers just as we do persistent vandals.
  • Remember - If you need help or admin intervention visit irc://irc.freenode.net/wikipedia-spam-t

POLICY Before you begin, please read WP:EL and WP:SPAM. These polices are the basis of spam fighting.

Best Wishes - The Wikipedia IRC Spam Project Team

Apostrophe usage in decades

Not according to MoS it isn't, and not according to Jeopardy! I'm not sure which manual of style you're using, but in American English there are no apostrophes in decades. It's '40s and '50s, not 40's and 50's. Robert K S 21:58, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Well, if the MOS says it isn't, I'll have to swallow my pedantry, then. Blast 11.21.06 1706 (UTC -5)

blanking user talk pages

I reported this problem to Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents‎ Somebody has been using a series of IP addresses to systematically blank user talk pages--he hit mine User talk:Rjensen a number of times as well as User talk:Hlj User talk:Kablammo and User talk:Luna Santin and probably others

What the targets all have in common is we strongly protested Stevewk who tried repeatedly to remove all the information about the Civil War from the Abraham Lincoln article. Stevewk was given a 3R suspension but may be using sockpuppets to hit editors. Thus he may be using 70.110.174.121 151.197.233.65 70.110.155.238 70.110.174.121 etc. Rjensen 23:40, 21 November 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up, but I don't really know what to do with the information ; I just noticed the blank on VF3 and reverted it. Blast 11.21.06 1857 (UTC -5)

sorry

i was not sure how to respond, but i think i have it sorted now, good luck with the edits — Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.56.104.240 (talk) 11.22.06 1817

You recently reverted my change to the page "user:bummerdude62" that is my previous user name. it was taken hostage by my friends at school and they use it to vandalize wikipedia. i did not put in blank content but put up the truth, that the login was used for vandalism. JoshDinger 00:56, 23 November 2006 (UTC)

I see ; thank you for the clarification. If you wish, you may report that username to the administrators, so that your friends can't use it to vandalise pages any more. Blast 11.22.06 (UTC -5)

Image tagging for Image:Tribalwars.png

Thanks for uploading Image:Tribalwars.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 23:10, 24 November 2006 (UTC)

Deletion process

You seem to have tagged Category:BDSM submissives for deletion with links that point to Wikipedia:User categories for discussion. It is not a user category, it is an encyclopedia-space category, and there is no mention of it at Wikipedia:User categories for discussion. If you do intend to nominate this for deletion, please use the appropriate tag: as it is, people coming from the category page will not readily find the discussion (wherever it may be; I haven't yet gone looking around for it). - Jmabel | Talk 02:38, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:UN-flag-square.png)

Thanks for uploading Image:UN-flag-square.png. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Fritz S. (Talk) 15:42, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Minor edits?

Just wanted to ask if edits like the BLHS ones should be considered minor? Nyttend 14:38, 29 November 2006 (UTC)
