Lower Dnieper islands/Chervone

Hello, Krynky is under Russian control for a long time now, as well as one islet that’s marked as under Ukraine, is actually under Russian control per ISW. Review the map of the islands in lower Dnieper river. Please change the control of the islands according to ISW. And please geolocate Chervone somehow and put it on the map. I cannot give you a link on the telegram channel, as it’s off-site. It appears the source is unreliable. Make sure to change the island control based on ISW and add Chervone village so it’s displayed, along with the name. I know that you are busy, but it would help if you could tell people about how to edit the map, such as add places, change territorial control, since I know that you’re in Penn University now, you’ll probably be busy studying up. 195.64.239.124 (talk) 17:39, 15 June 2024 (UTC)

Hello again! I've gone ahead and added Chervone to the map as you requested.

The islands in the lower Dnieper are actually correctly colored based on the ISW map. The orange color on the ISW map is labeled "Claimed Russian Territory in Ukraine". What this means is that the area was previously known to be controlled by Ukraine, though Russian forces have since claimed control over it with little or no evidence, however, it also means that Ukrainian forces have not provided any evidence that they still control it either. These areas are sort of like grey zones that you may see on other maps. It has been precedent for a while to show these areas as Ukrainian controlled until it is absolutely certain that Russia controls them, see this disscussion from 2022, File talk:2022 Russian_invasion of Ukraine.svg/Archive 3#ISW Russian Claims.

On Krynky, the ISW map shows that Ukrainian forces still hold a very small beachhead in the southwestern part of the settlement, meaning that it is still contested.

Also, thanks for being willing to help with editing the map! I think I'll still be able to maintain it through college, but I can teach you how to edit it yourself. You'll first need Inkscape, a free SVG editor, which you can download here, https://inkscape.org/. Then you'll need to download the map as an SVG and open it in Inkscape. It will probably take a little while to open, as the map is a rather large file. To change the frontline, double click the Russian occupied area to reveal the perimeter nodes and then adjust them to your desired shape. To change the status of a city, delete the marker it currently has and replace it by copy/pasting a marker of the same size with the correct status, ensuring that it is put in the same place as the old marker. You may use the ISW's map or the Wikipedia page Territorial control during the Russo-Ukrainian War as sources for making changes. If you would like to use any other source you must discuss it on the Territorial control page's talk page. If they come to an agreement that the source is reliable, then you may use that source going forward. Please do not try to edit any text that is already on the map, as all of the text elements contains hidden translations that are quite fragile and easy to break. If you plan to upload your version of the map, ensure you edit the most recent version, as you would not want to accidentally undo a previous edit. Hello @46.211.228.177, while I'm not Physeters, I thought I'd leave comment because I made the article for for Levadne, Zaporizhzhia Oblast not too long ago! While it is technically on the frontline after being recaptured by Ukraine, I would personally be against its inclusion on any major map since the village had a pre-war population of only one person, and consists of only around three houses which are all no doubt destroyed at this point. I can add Levadne to the map, but like @Johnson524 said, the village only had a population of one, so it might not make the most sense. Maybe their is another more significant village nearby that I could add instead? Physeters^✉ 21:39, 23 June 2024 (UTC)

Update NW Kharkiv map,add Urozhaine and Makarivka.

Hello there. It seems like Northwest Harkov territorial control wasn’t updated by you yet,but ISW shows that the russians captured a village called Sotnytskyi Kozachok. Please update it. I have updated the Kharkiv map, and will add Urozhaine (which is indeed contested) to the other map the next time I update it. Add cities and towns.

I request that you include two cities in Odesa Oblast called (Dobroslav) Доброслав and (Dachne) Дачное, as well as village Чаривное (Charivne) in Zap. Oblast. And an unusual request: Please add Тарханкут town in west Crimea. Ukrainian parliament voted(and I think made the name official as „decommunisation“ policy) but Russian officials said „it will not change until Crimea is under Ukrainian jurisdiction“ it’s outdated name is Кировское. 46.211.124.77 (talk) 08:08, 7 July 2024 (UTC)

hi,noticed you put the names in English and named Kirovskoye as Dobroslav in west Crimea.. you need to fix it and call the settlement of “Dobroslav” in Crimea as Кировское(copy it)

Before you fix, please Update NW Kharkiv territorial control of one village(хутор).

Now,please add the following important city,towns and a village: Makiivka/Макеевка(it’s contested) it’s in Luhansk Oblast.

Then, add the city of Ovidiopol/Овидиополь and a town named Serhiivka/Сергеевка both are in Odesa Oblast near each other. There are two things worth noting about my changes:

First, all of my sources currently say that Makiivka is under Ukrainian control, though subject to Russian skirmishes.

Second, the Ukraine map uses a translation system to display placenames in various languages. You can change the language by going to this page and selecting a language from the "Render this image" dropdown menu. Unless a translation is supplied, it will display the default language, English, no matter what language you have selected. I have added Russian translations for all of the settlements you requested, and some that did not previously have a Russian translation. Hopefully they will now all display in Russian correctly.
