Hello Pie4all88/Archive 1 and welcome to Wikipedia! Hope you like it here, and stick around.

Here are some tips to help you get started:

Good luck!

No problem; it's good to get off to a collegial start. Anyway, just a note--you usually sign posts on talk pages (though not articles); you can see how in the P.S. above. best wishes, [[User:Meelar|Meelar (talk)]] 04:24, 9 Jul 2004 (UTC)

You might want to check this out and add to it. It's slated for deletion. Perhaps see how some of the Tolkienian cities are documented here. - UtherSRG 00:54, 29 Jul 2004 (UTC)

All right--thanks for the heads up. pie4all88 23:31, 30 Jul 2004 (UTC)

This isn't the fox you're looking for.

I'm sorry. You must have me confused with another "Fennec", for I have never before visited the Crimson Fire site you linked. Hello, anyway. :) -Fennec (はさばくのきつね) 19:38, 6 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for the encouragement

But can't work out how to remove the cleanup notice from the henchman article... Kevinb 23:10, 1 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Ok, I went to Wikipedia:Cleanup like the notice suggested, opened up a few pages because henchman was posted there a long time ago, and did some searching using Ctrl + F. I found its listing on Wikipedia:Cleanup/August and removed it. I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it, but it works :) pie4all88 19:45, 2 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Thanks, I guess I should have kept digging... It would be easier if there was an alphabetical listing since there didn't seem to be any way to know when it was listed (or at least I didn't notice it). Kevinb 20:55, 5 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Chicago meetup answer

Is this event open for all users? What exactly will be discussed? I've never heard of these meetings before, so I was wondering exactly what would be going on. pie4all88 03:29, 1 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Sure, everyone is welcome. The agenda will depend on who visits. If, as it seems, this will at best be a very small group meeting for lunch, then we can just meet each other and chat about whatever we like. I'm open to having a specific agenda, but this works best for larger meetings I think. 24.144.84.219 13:37, 7 Oct 2004 (UTC)

WikiProject: Computer and Video Games

I've noticed your contributions to game-related articles. Maybe you'd be interested in this WikiProject? I don't see you on the list of participants. Andre (talk) 22:44, Oct 12, 2004 (UTC)

Thanks for pointing that out, Andrevan. I'd been to that WikiProject before, but I hadn't signed up for it or anything. I noticed that you placed a link to that WikiProject in Gaming Collaboration of the week...did you see that there was a link to it there before? Anyways, I signed up for Wikipedia:WikiProject Computer and Video Games. Thanks again for the notice! pie4all88 22:55, 12 Oct 2004 (UTC)
Oops, didn't see that link. Glad you signed up though. Andre (talk) 23:03, Oct 12, 2004 (UTC)

Collaboration Template

Would you be against linking Gaming Collaboration in the first line of the CurrentGCOTW template to Wikipedia:Gaming_Collaboration_of_the_week? I wanted to put this template on my user page and it would be helpful when placing the template on an out-of-context page. - Defunkt 22:27, 17 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Thanks

Just wanted to say thanks a lot for the note you left on my talk page! This Wikipedia is a cool place. Jason One 21:40, 19 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Yeah, I hope to contribute something to every Gaming Collaboration of the week. (I did some minor stuff on Super Mario 64.) Later! Jason One 23:52, 22 Oct 2004 (UTC)
I know what you mean. I've only played a couple of Crash games, and only for very brief periods of time, so I'm not exactly an expert. I can still do some copyediting, though! Jason One 00:29, 23 Oct 2004 (UTC)

Hurray for Tilde!

Thanks for the tilde tip, I needed that...Erre 23:16, 12 Dec 2004 (UTC)

I left a note on the user page anyway. Looks like I was only moments too ate in getting home. ;) - UtherSRG 01:00, Dec 15, 2004 (UTC)

Wikipedia bot idea

I have a suggestion for your propsed wikibot if you are still interested. Instead of using your talk page to epxlain just go to this link and read all about it there. Modern literature

Hi there, I was just wondering why you've been creating redirects to a non-existent article (Modern literature). Were you planning to write it? I think WP probably needs one, we have History of modern literature at the moment, which is not of a very good standard. Perhaps you might at least create a stub for modern lit so that there are no redirects to redlinks. --bainer 01:31, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I put it up for Collaboration of the Week and figured that I'd start those redirects so that when the article was made, they'd be working. In retrospect, it probably wasn't a good idea. Hopefully a new article will be up soon though. --pie4all88 03:30, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
I voted for this on COTW, I think it's a good choice. Perhaps there should be a full Modernism series, like the one for Postmodernism. My point was that even just a placeholder stub would prevent the broken redirects. I hope this one gets up! --bainer 08:44, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)

Welcome message

Hi Pie4all88,

Are you using a template to add welcome messages for new users? There seems to be a closing tag → |} missing from the bottom of it. (All subsequent messages on the user's talk pages end up inside the same pink box as the welcome message.) Here's what it looks like:

By the way, in my browser the text in that welcome message comes across as pretty tiny...not sure if you want to look into that or not.

Happy editing, --TenOfAllTrades (talk/contrib) 01:02, 3 May 2005 (UTC)

Hey, thanks a ton for taking a detailed look at that. I'm not particularly good at all this markup stuff, and I've been trying to figure out what's wrong with it for a while now. Originally, it was working--a nice, blue background with a list of open tasks on the side was there--but I think someone changed the Opentask template, which screwed it all over. Unfortunately, my wikipediaholism has been wearing down of late, so I've never really gotten around to creating even a substitute. Maybe I'll be able to restore it to its former glory in the near future. :) Anyways, thanks again for the help! --pie4all88 02:38, 3 May 2005 (UTC)
No worries. At the beginning of the year, I went for about two months with a typo in one of the wikilinks in my sig. Someone finally pointed it out to me; it felt like I had been walking around Wikipedia with my fly open.
If you're feeling ambitious, you might consider creating a custom welcome template in your own user space—that way, the only person who can screw up your syntax is you. ;) On the other hand, as long as the welcome message works for a couple of weeks...the users will be able to remove or fix it themselves if it breaks. Cheers, --TenOfAllTrades (talk/contrib) 03:32, 3 May 2005 (UTC)

This media may be deleted.

Thanks for uploading Image:SuperMarioSunshineGCNScreenshot.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you have not created this media yourself then there needs to be an argument why we have the right to use the media on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the media yourself then it needs to be specified where it was found, i.e., in most cases link to the website where it was taken from, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the media also doesn't have a copyright tag then one should be added. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media qualifies as fair use, consider reading fair use, and then use a tag such as {{fairusein|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair_use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other media, consider checking that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. ReyBrujo 18:58, 23 April 2006 (UTC)

Hello, I was wondering if you knew where you found this image: Image:StarFox SNES Screenshot.jpg . Was it from a website, or taken from an emulator? Currently, me and another user are getting all the Star Fox main articles to GA status, and properly sourcing the images is one of the requirements. Thunderbrand 01:22, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

Orphaned fair use image (Image:Banjo-Tooie N64 Game Box.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Banjo-Tooie N64 Game Box.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any fair use images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. cut and paste move

Please do not make cut and paste moves, as you did to Climber (video game). You can use the move tab at the top of the page to do that kind of things and not lose the history of the page (which is against the GFDL). I tagged the new page so an admin can revert your change. -- lucasbfr talk 09:24, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Don't worry normally the admin will do everything. Keep an eye open though just in case :). The idea behind the move tab is to keep the history, and to be able to revert the move if there is a need. You just need to be logged in to be able to do it. The only problem is that you need the destination page to be non existent, that's why I can't fix it myself :). Cheers -- lucasbfr talk 09:50, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Image source problem with Image:US Money Order.gif

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

This is an automated message from a robot. You have recently uploaded Image:US Money Order.gif. The file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 02:57, 2 September 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. If you believe you received this message in error, please notify the bot's owner. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:DragonForce-ValleyOfTheDamnedDemo-AlbumCover.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:DragonForce-ValleyOfTheDamnedDemo-AlbumCover.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 10:32, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:MageKnightLogo.gif

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:MageKnightLogo.gif. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Sid Meier's Civilization: The Boardgame, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.
