Notability of Haebaragi

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Haebaragi requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. -- Levine2112 discuss 06:13, 2 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've reverted the cut and paste of the Honolulu building code that you dropped into the middle of Building because it seemed to replicate the introduction, and contained specifics that aren't helpful in a general article. It seemed to be out of place, perhaps due to the lack of context. Just wanted to let you know, and to ask you to consider the context of your edits. Thanks. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 20:52, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Same message on Gypsum. Please stop cutting and pasting info indiscriminately into articles as you have been doing. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 20:56, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Also Tendon. Please create a new article if needed rather than creating a confusing paragraph in the midst of an article about human tendons. Thanks. Delicious carbuncle (talk) 21:12, 6 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Speedy deletion of Aka, Paul Lee

[edit]

A tag has been placed on Aka, Paul Lee requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that a copy be emailed to you. Rnb (talk) 17:47, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I've moved Aka, Paul Lee to User:Plee223. If that wasn't what you had in mind, please let me know and I'll delete it. All the best, Angus McLellan (Talk) 18:01, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Robert Louis Stevenson Middle School, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? Prashanthns (talk) 17:51, 11 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you need help with anything...

[edit]

Don't hesitate to ask me. Viriditas (talk) 13:22, 12 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you have any interest, we need an article about Korean immigration to Hawaii (structured like Chinese immigration to Hawaii) and we need more information about the Korean influence on the Cuisine of Hawaii. If you need sources, let me know and I'll help you out. Viriditas (talk) 23:53, 14 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Great job! Remember to add sources (inline is preferred). If you need help, you can review Wikipedia:Citing sources, or just ask. I'll go ahead and add a references section, so that anything you add between <ref> and </ref> will show up. Viriditas (talk) 08:53, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Good job with the references. Pretty soon we will have to make you boss, and everyone will be taking orders from you. :-) I see you added a 2003 book from Chang and Patterson. I'll go ahead and format it using Wikipedia:Citation templates so you can see how its done. That's the easy part. But, you should make sure to use inline references, either at the end of the paragraph or at the end of specific facts, figures, or quotes. Something like this, showing where you got the information from:<ref>Chang & Patterson 2003, p. 294</ref> That will show up in the "Notes" section. Viriditas (talk) 09:19, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Excellent work. I moved your new content from the lead to the ethnic foods section, here. Once we have sources, we can mention the most important (or influential) Korean dish in the lead section. Viriditas (talk) 09:35, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Paul, I've restored the citation request. We can't cite ourselves unless we are dealing with WP:RS. Did you publish an article or book on the subject? Viriditas (talk) 23:43, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If you can add inline citations, you could submit an interesting fact from this article to WP:DYK, and your new article will be featured on the main page! Viriditas (talk) 09:25, 15 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oahu Wiknic on June 23rd

[edit]

Aloha! I am planning to set up an Oahu Wikinic for June 23, as described at Wikipedia:Wiknic

My Wikipedia user name is Peaceray, I started about 15 months ago, & I have about 2,500 edits on en.wikipedia.org. I have been hankering to meet with some fellow local Wikipedians, especially since a few of us live in Kailua. To that end, I am sending email to or posting on the user Talk pages of 19 of us from the Wikipedia:WikiProject Hawaii/Participants page who I could identify as possibly living on Oahu.

Please see Wikipedia:Meetup/Oahu/1 & Wikipedia talk:Meetup/Oahu/1

I am open to any of the locations mentioned in the post, or other alternatives. I am like-to-operate-by-consensus type of guy, any workable location on which we could soon decide would be great!

Paul Lee (author, poet, engineer)

[edit]

Hi, Paul. Thanks for message. You can sign your comments automatically using four tildes ~~~~. Your article told us nothing about you, just a list of books. Your disambiguation addition (born 1950), Korean American engineer in Honolulu, Hawaii actually had a lot more content. If you decide to try again, try to observe the following.

  • Choose just one item to put in the article title, it looks spammy to have a string of occupations, and you can add the others in the text.
  • You will have to provide independent verifiable sources to enable us to verify the facts and show that you meet the notability guidelines. It is now wikipedia policy that biographical articles about living people must have independent verifiable references. As a matter of policy, all biographies of living people will be deleted if they do not have references
  • Articles must be neutral and encyclopaedic, not an opportunity to promote yourself or you books
  • Don't copy text from websites, even your own. Copyrighted text is not allowed in Wikipedia, as outlined in this policy. That applies even to pages created by you, unless they state clearly that the text is public domain. There are ways to donate copyrighted text to Wikipedia, as described here; please note that simply asserting on the talk page that you are the owner of the copyright isn't sufficient.

You have an obvious conflict of interest when it comes to editing articles about yourself. Thank you for declaring your interest. If, after reading the information about notability linked above, you still believe that you are notable enough for a Wikipedia article (and that there is significant coverage in reliable, independent secondary sources), you could, if you wish, post a request at Wikipedia:Requested articles for the article to be created. See also Wikipedia:Best practices for editors with conflicts of interest. Jimfbleak - talk to me? 05:49, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Poong Ho Lee requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an article with no content whatsoever, or whose contents consist only of external links, a "See also" section, book references, category tags, template tags, interwiki links, a rephrasing of the title, or an attempt to contact the subject of the article. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles. Also please note that articles must be on notable subjects and should provide references to reliable sources that verify their content.

If you think that the page was nominated in error, contest the nomination by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion" in the speedy deletion tag. Doing so will take you to the talk page where you can explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. Welcome

[edit]

Hello, Plee223, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions.

I notice that one of the first articles you created appears to be an article about yourself. This is a common mistake made by new Wikipedians—as this is an encyclopedia, we wouldn't expect to have an article about every contributor. Your user page, however, is a great place to write about yourself, making sure to stay within user page guidelines. Just click your user name at the top of the screen when you are logged in, and edit it normally.

The page you created about yourself has been or will shortly be speedily deleted from Wikipedia, but if you want to use the content from it, don't hesitate to ask anyone from this list and they will copy it to your user page.

If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}} on your user page, and someone will show up shortly to answer your questions. Here are a few other good links for newcomers:

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! Please sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~); this will automatically produce your name and the date. If you have any questions, check out Wikipedia:Where to ask a question or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome! IRWolfie- (talk) 10:26, 6 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Articles for creation

Hi, note that if you wish to create an article, particularly one about yourself due to the conflict of interest. I suggest you go through Articles for Creation for approval etc. Note that wikipedia isn't a directory of people and there are some specific requirements for a wikipedia page, for example WP:GNG and WP:AUTHOR. How to successfully create an article about yourself

[edit]

Hi,

Re: Paul Lee (poet, author, translator, editor, engineer) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

In general the answer about articles about yourself is, you are better off not doing this yourself. If you want to persist, please be prepared for challenged about your conflict of interest, probably more than once. The best place to ask for help is at Conflict of interest/Noticeboard, where even after creating the article it would be a smart idea to go and raise a notice that you recognize you have a conflict of interest and would like some independent support. Lastly, if the article gets deleted again, please ask for WP:Userfication, which will give you a copy to work on as a draft in your userspace. Thanks -- (talk) 06:25, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I am new as an editor, but I think that you would need to find reliable sources beside your self or your circle of influence, that are about you or your publication. "Secondary or tertiary sources are needed to establish the topic's notability"WP:PRIMARY this means that you would need such a secondary source in order to prove that you or your work deserve a page in Wikipedia. Good luck. --Nenpog (talk) 09:04, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Paul.
I think you need to pay more attention to the comment from GoldStandard in his response to your request in Articles for creation above. In the mean time you can use the link in the Speedy Deletion above to ask an administrator to userfy the article that was deleted so anyone interested in creating a new article can see it. Has your poetry, fiction, translations etc. been reviewed? How notable were the review publications? Not everybody meets Wikipedias notability standards and going around trying different forums won't make it so. Sorry I couldn't help more. filceolaire (talk) 09:50, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi Plee223. I would like to help you out, but I'm seeing a few troubles with your request. First, your name Paul Lee is sooo common that I (or anyone) would not be able to search a news database to find source material for the article. A second problem I'm seeing (from your talk page) is that you also go by Poong Ho Lee, making it harder to find reliable sources on you. You would have to be able to supply the reliable source material from which the article would be developed. Those supplied sources would have to be independent of you (not connected to you in any way) per WP:GNG. Third, you appear to be looking for someone to write a Publications of Paul Lee article instead of a Paul Lee (author) biography article. Wikipedia only has a few "Publications of" articles and those appear to be redirects to biography articles. A fourth problem I'm seeing is that sources you want to supply are in Korean. We could try to use Bing translator, but the output sometimes isn't so clear. You might want to get your biography article developed on Korean Wikipedia first and then have that foreign-language Wikipedia article translation into English at Wikipedia:Translation. There's something at Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Paul Lee (author, poet, engineer), but you might be better off drafting the article at User:Plee223/Paul Lee (author). -- Uzma Gamal (talk) 10:08, 8 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Templated message about autobiographies

[edit]

Please do not write an article about yourself, as you apparently did at Paul Lee (poet, author, translator, editor, engineer). Creating an autobiography is strongly discouraged – see our guideline on writing autobiographies. If you create such an article, it may be deleted. If what you have done in life is genuinely notable and can be verified according to our policy for articles about living people, someone else will probably create an article about you sooner or later (see Wikipedians with articles). Please understand that this is an encyclopedia and not a personal web space or social networking site. If your article has already been deleted, please see: Why was my page deleted?, and if you feel the deletion was an error, please discuss it with the deleting administrator. Thank you. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:34, 7 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looking for editors to help with an Asian Pacific American edit-a-thon in Honolulu

On Oahu? Edit Wikipedia or Wikimedia sister projects? You are invited to help the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center with an Asian Pacific American edit-a-thon in Honolulu this September.

Aloha!

Last summer I moved to the Seattle area after 14 years in Kailua on Oahu. I immediately fell in with the Cascadia Wikimedians User Group as it formed, joined its board and became its first president as well as the GLAM representative for Washington State.

Recently, Adriel Luis, Curator (Digital & Emerging Media) at the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, contacted me about setting up an edit-a-thon like the previous Wikipedia APA edit-a-thon. In addition to discussing one for Seattle, he wrote:

As I was working two jobs while I lived on Oahu, I did not have the opportunity to meet your or any other Wikipedians at the time. Hence, the reason why I am contacting you now.

If you would like to help, please contact me through one of these methods:
