U are the only admin around that I see so I need this AOL IP 64.12.116.198. unblocked if you can. Its keeping me from editing a page. Thanks --JAranda | watz sup 06:23, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Signpost edits

[edit]

"(see link)", including the italics, is one of the common conventions for such links in articles I've seen. I can't be 100% sure that it's the most common, but I find it much more readable (even compared to the same thing without the italics). It's a nitpick, I know, but I don't see why anyone would seriously object. --L33tminion | (talk) 06:36, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

SIGN

[edit]

More WP:SIGN business... :-) Just wanted to check with you to see if "ArbCom duties and requirements" is OK for next issue. Admittedly, it's quite a vague topic, considering that there's no official requirements, but I don't think that this topic should be affected by the recent changes. In addition, if you plan to, when do you think you will be annoucing the email? I would be glad to type up an email policy page, if you want me to. Thanks. Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 21:59, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reply! I agree that it should be announced with a "Letter from the Editor", but I was thinking of perhaps creating an email policy and instructions page. Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 22:57, 2 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I was actually thinking of the same thing! Guess great minds think alike, eh? :-) I've gone ahead and registered it — same password as email. Thanks! Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 22:33, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Iraqi insurgency sockpuppets

[edit]

Looks like there is a slew of sockpuppets @ the Iraqi insurgency article. Where should I post this when this happens? JDR 21:29, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I have blocked as a possible impostor, as an admin you can unblock if it's legitimate. -- Curps 23:12, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

(copied from Curps's talk page): Curps, thanks for blocking User:Wikipedia Signpost, but I've unblocked it now — I created it after Ral's suggestion (and I'm also involved with the Signpost), so it's legitimate. I was kind of wondering how long it would take to be blocked... I probably should have left a message from my account on there. Thanks anyways for your vigilance. :-) Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 23:20, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, I probably should have done the same or let you create the account. Oh well, I'll get busy writing some articles now... :-) Flcelloguy | A note? | Desk | WS 20:52, 4 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Another article that went missing

[edit]

After reviewing the edit history, I'm rather puzzled as to what happened here, but I did actually write a story for this week's Signpost at User:Michael Snow/Blame game. I added it to the newsroom in this diff, which seems to have been in the middle of your reorganization of which I was not aware. All I can think of is that my internet connection was on the fritz much of yesterday, and somehow I pulled an old version and didn't get an edit conflict. Anyway, the connection problems are also part of why I wasn't able to write more than I did. --Michael Snow 01:04, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for supporting my RfA

I know I've been slow in saying this, but thanks for supporting my request for adminship. It was an honor to be both nominated and approved as an admin. If there is ever any adminish (is that a word :-) things you need help with, please let me know. --Alabamaboy 16:25, 8 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for blocking NPOVenforcer

[edit]

Thank you for blocking NPOVenforcer. I try very hard to maintain a civil attitude here with everyone but he was straining me with his hitlist. He can continue to contribute from his anonymous IP or create a new address. Kit 06:07, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

p.s. Would it be appropriate to remove his hitlist at this time? Kit 06:13, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Would you please remove the hitlist from history? Thanks Dominick (ŤαĿĶ) 13:46, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
Ral315 removed the hitlist, with the remark that that is not the place for that. However, taking into account that you, Ral315, want to be part of the Arbitration Committee, I hope that you can state where *is* the place for such corrective actions (note that NPOVenforcer apparently had good intentions and certainly he/she has good ideas and suggestions, but I don't make a judgment about this particular action). Do some Wikipedia administrators have blacklists of some kinds, or what? Thanks in advance! Harald88 19:35, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]

Hi, Ral315. Thanks for letting me know about Jarlaxle. I hope it works out. My personal problems with him were minor (inserting obscenities into a talk page, but not an article), and he did clean up after User:Hajor asked him to. Stories lined up

[edit]

I've moved all the stories and collected them at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Newsroom, except for the news and notes article, where I wasn't sure if you had more you wanted to do. Hope that helps make the endgame a little easier. --Michael Snow 05:37, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I found some more stuff for "News and notes". Sorry about moving right in the middle of your work. And don't feel too bad about the delay in hitting the presses. Under the circumstances, I think people should understand. If not, ask for a raise. --Michael Snow 06:19, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I could tell the edit summary was a joke, don't worry. Still, it's one of the problems of wikis that you can't see where other people are going, so you bump into each other like that while you try to work. And I do recognize the importance of personal deadlines; without them, the Signpost would never have gotten off the ground. I'm glad to have someone else onboard who values them. --Michael Snow 06:33, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, if you update dyk, please follow the instructions and archive the old template in the archive section.--nixie 22:33, 15 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

It's no problem - the easiset way to do it is to just cut the old template and paste it into the archive section, then paste the new suggestions into the template, shouldn't take more than 2-3 minutes.--nixie 02:04, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Rfar

[edit]

I have no personal problem with you, and I hope you do understand this. That's good enough for me, I didn't understand previously, but i'm very glad you said that. I haven't been keeping that page up anyhow for the past few weeks, and the feeling that I was being "bullied" into trying to delete it was the last impediment towards actually deleting it to tell you the truth. I'll delete it now, and don't worry, any Admin can see the edit histories, so it's still ok under GFDL -- I'm more than willing to show anyone who asks.

Also, do you mind if we move the conversation in the workshop to the talk page? It's getting very cramped and is getting off topic somewhat. I asked everybody else, but I also wanted to ask you. I had a good chat with Tony Sidaway about the whole situation last night and i've come to a conclusion that i'd like to share once the conversation is moved to the talk page. Email

[edit]

Ral, since I see you're logged on: did you get my email that I sent about an hour ago? Thanks. Flcelloguy (A note?) 21:37, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Ah, thanks. By the way, what do you think should be written in the ArbCom series? I've pretty much used up all the topics, and we can't really profile candidates with the overhaul of the election. Thoughts? Thanks. Flcelloguy (A note?) 23:13, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
What I was thinking of before Jimbo's changes was to have a profile of each candidate, listing several "vital stats" (with a nice warning about editcountitis and whatnot) and asking them to provide a quote or something like that. We could go ahead and do that, but what about the candidates that have withdrawn? Also, it does seem kind of pointless to profile "candidates" if Jimbo's going to be selecting them. Do you IRC access so maybe you could ask Jimbo if he's planning to release more details? Thanks. Flcelloguy (A note?) 00:17, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Niel Cicierega AfD

[edit]

Thank you for ending the AfD, whether it passed or not it was turning into a flamewar. I would like to complain about the conduct of User:Locke Cole, however. He created a message in bold red at the top of the AfD, relating to the posting of a blog entry linking to the AfD. I commented that this was not really a violation of any policy, and he moved my comment to the bottom of the Sockpuppet votes. In order to allow my comments to be seen, I moved his comment to the non-sockpuppet votes category (but preserved bold red formatting) and moved my comments back to below his message. He then moved his message back to the top, my first message to the bottom, and deleted several of my comments, as seen in this edit: [2] This edit was then reverted by User:Aurochs, and then re-reverted by User:Locke Cole. Obviously, I am somewhat upset about this, though I have never registered for a username on Wikipedia I have made contributions (this is a massively shared IP, so not all of the contributions listed for it are from me) and since it wasn't a vote I definetly believe that moving my comments to the sockpuppet votes and deleting my comments were not proper conduct. He has also said that he will re-open this AfD if the article isn't deleted, and I would appreciate it if such things did not happen if/when it is re-opened. I eagerly await your reply, I will keep checking back on this page. --128.187.0.165 01:08, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see anything really wrong; while deleting your comments may have gone too far, this was a general note to the person closing the AfD to make sure they noted the sockpuppeting and the blog entry. My suggestion would be to talk to Locke Cole yourself; I can't take any personal action against this user. Ral315 (talk) 01:15, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
OK, thanks. I believe he said that he doesn't allow anonymous comments on his talk page, so I'll have to get an account or something. Thanks for the reply anyway. --128.187.0.165 01:19, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I ditto the thanks from 128.187.0.165 . The dicussion was sliding downhill rapidly, and it was about time to put an end to it, IMO. On a seperate but related note, I'm concerned that my comments are being viewed as sockpuppetry when I'm actually a legitimate contributor to the community. My comment was resorted & moved into "soft sockpuppet." What should I do to be regarded as legitimate, and how are the various categories of sockpuppet defined? I realize it's not a big thing, but it'd make me feel better. :-) Ssbohio 05:18, 17 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to reopen neglected lengthy climate change dispute

[edit]

Note that a proposal [3] has been made to reopen the Climate change dispute. The case was closed 26 June 2005, enforcement was not posted to WP:RFAr/AER, two participants have lost months of Wikipedia time, and one participant has been ignoring his parole. (SEWilco 16:39, 18 November 2005 (UTC))[reply]

Ral, I'm not sure if you read my above message, but I really don't think it would that good of an idea to profile "candidates" now. Given that most of them might not be involved in the election process with the changes and that several candidates withdrew because of the changes, there's just too much uncertainty, in my opinion, to warrant such an article. Of course, if you wish for me to write it, I will, but I think that having a hiatus in the series until further updates from Jimbo wouldn't be all that bad of an idea. Even according to the original schedule, there's not much left to cover - mainly updates and reminders. Let me know what you think. Thanks a lot! Flcelloguy (A note?) 23:12, 20 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
