Thank you

Thank you very much for the thorough copyedit on 2009 International Bowl. Grondemar 15:30, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

No problems. Hopefully it is a step closer to FA. Glad I could help. :-) - S Masters (talk) 16:10, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

Leaderboard

Someone smart put up a leaderboard at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Guild_of_Copy_Editors/Backlog_elimination_drives/May_2010#Progress. You're on it, so if you can keep your numbers on it updated as you post your running totals, that would be helpful and much appreciated! ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 15:07, 16 May 2010 (UTC)

Sure, no problems. As we are now a bit more than halfway through the month, can I suggest that you send out a template notice to all participants to clear-up any outstanding copyedits that they have, and also to help give this a hard push as we pass the halfway mark? I noticed that some people have put articles in their tally boxes, but have not completed any of their edits. If you are too busy, let me know and I'll be happy to post it on your behalf. Cheers. - S Masters (talk) 03:14, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
You are hereby deputized as a Backlog Elimination Drive co-coordinator. I actually have a newsletter for everyone on my talk page, that Diannaa put together, which I was planning on sending out to everyone. Why don't you add to it whatever you'd like it to say, and then I'll send it out after that. ɳorɑfʈ Talk! 04:58, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Oh, OK :-). I'm at work now and can't do much, although I will make a start. Please give me until tonight to add to it (another 8 hours or so from now). Will put my notes on your talk page. Cheers. - S Masters (talk) 05:48, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
Managed to find some time to put my points in. Thanks. - S Masters (talk) 06:25, 17 May 2010 (UTC)

GOCE Newsletter

GOCE backlog elimination drive chart

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive! We have now reached the halfway point, and here's what has happened so far.

  • Requests Report - Good news! The number of special requests waiting to be edited has been reduced drastically, with almost all of the remaining items having editors committed to getting them done. Good work, people!
  • Target Report - ɳorɑfʈ's initial target of reducing the backlog of articles for copy edit turned out to be unrealistic insane, so a new target was set: we hope to reduce the to backlog to less than 7,500 items in the queue by the end of the month. The number in the queue was 7,950 as of close of business yesterday.
    • If we "concentrate our firepower" we can wipe out Jan, Feb, and March 2008, meaning the drive will have cleared four months off the backlog queue. Please consider copyediting from one of these months.
  • Rewards Report - We now have some clear leaders on the board in all three Gold Star categories, and many people have qualified for the various barnstars. It is not too late to participate, as it takes just 2,000 words (pre-edit) to qualify for a barnstar! Don't wait! Start participating today. Remember, the ultimate winner is Wikipedia.
  • Notice to Participants - For those who have indicated that you will be working on certain articles on the drive page in your respective tally box, please ensure that you complete these copyedits as soon as possible.

Thank you very much for your participation so far!

Thank You!

The Copyeditor's Barnstar
Thank you for the long-awaited copyedit on RuneScape. I had no idea there were so many little problems with style and grammar...--Unionhawk Talk E-mail 17:36, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Thank you so much for the Barnstar! :-) Just to let you know, there's still a bit more work to do if you are taking it to GAN. I do not deal that much with wikilinks when I copyedit. I concentrate on spelling, grammar, etc. There are many common, everyday words that have been wikified that should not be. Words like novel, fishing, dragon, etc. In addition, a word should should only be wikified on first mention only, and no more than once per section. It is something that I bring up when I do a GAN review. If you can have this done, I think you can try GAN again. Hope this helps. - S Masters (talk) 18:39, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

If I could have a minute.....

A member's birthday (OldWestHistorian) is today and I want to make sure they have a happy birthday. Could you stop by their talk page and wish them a happy birthday? I know you don't know them very well, and I know you're busy with the backlog elimination drive, but like I said I want to make sure they have a happy birthday. The Utahraptor Talk 13:45, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

No problems, that's very thoughtful of you. Yes, I'm busy, but never too busy to take a few minutes to be nice to someone. Consider it done. :-) - S Masters (talk) 14:20, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
