A tag has been placed on Category:Snooker portal requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read! I learned a lot from you about Wikipedia in the Jean Mill afd. Just wanted to say thanks! User:Lightburst 23:10, 19 June 2019 (UTC)
@Lightburst: Glad it was a useful wringer. >;-) Thank you for making a good case and doing the leg-work. I think her article is pretty tight, despite my initial skepticism of a bio article on her.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  05:39, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

The dust has settled

I am still digesting all that happened in discussions related to your essay. I felt like I needed to call attention to my own faults and mistakes and so not highlight or pass the buck onto any other editors who help with the Signpost. It looks like the Signpost has adapted to newer editors and will continue on without us. I am going to read the rest of your essays. Best Regards, Barbara 18:57, 26 June 2019 (UTC)

@Barbara (WVS): It's interesting that, in the interim (and mostly in my May–Oct. absence, though I used my alt. account for controversial topics a few times to chime in) the trans-obsessive activists came out of the woodwork in force and mostly failed to get what they were demanding. While I had ping notices turned off, I did still get e-mail about various threads where language-change advocates and such were making unreasonable demands right and left, and just did not meet with much support. I didn't like being lit on wiki-fire in the first round of this, along with you, but the longer-term result has been positive for the project (so far), including the most consistently ad hominem and tendentious of those people getting topic-banned again. Should have happened when I took said person to ANI right at the start, but oh well. It's difficult to get a mostly left-leaning editorial base to take any action against one of their own until the line has been crossed so many times they don't really have any choice.  — SMcCandlish ¢ 😼  05:47, 27 October 2019 (UTC)

WP:CEN is now open!

To all interested parties: Now that it has a proper shortcut, the current events noticeboard has now officially opened for discussion!

WP:CEN came about as an idea I explored through a request for comment that closed last March. Recent research has re-opened the debate on Wikipedia's role in a changing faster-paced internet. Questions of WP:NOTNEWS and WP:Recentism are still floating around. That being said, there are still plenty of articles to write and hopefully this noticeboard can positively contribute to that critical process.

Thank you for your participation in the RFC, and I hope to see you at WP:CEN soon! –MJLTalk 19:10, 29 June 2019 (UTC)
