Re: Thanks for the Welcome

[edit]

Thank you for the welcome to Wikipedia. I hope to do a good job editing articles. My areas of expertise are largely those of old World of Darkness rpg games, and I was hoping to do some work cleaning up those articles as well as helping fix general randomness. Thank you for the warm welcome. I'll read through the links you gave me. Oh, one question, how did you get the bits that Wikipedia normally convert to show up as plain text? Thank you again. Shimaspawn 16:28, 6 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome! I hope to see you around- if you have any other questions, always feel free to contact me on my talk page.
I'm sorry, I don't understand your question. Could you please clarify? Thanks, and happy editing- CattleGirl talk | e@ 03:16, 7 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

How do I nominate a page for deletion? The nomination page seems needlessly convoluted. Can you please explain it in simpler language? I would greatly appreciate it. Shimaspawn 00:24, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sure I can! Ok.
Basically, first you need to make sure the article really needs deleting- if it's an attack page or nonsense page, consider putting a speedy delete tag on it- I'll give you the links for that in a minute.
Otherwise, if you want to nominate an article, it's pretty much common sense, however, as you know, there are guidelines found at Wikipedia:Deletion policy.
If it's suitable for deletion, it may be because it's not encyclopedic, it is just something someone made up, it fails other guidelines, links found here, a vandalism page (not just have been vandalised, but was created for the sole purpose of vandalism), or even if it will never amount to more than a couple of sentences.
To nominate an article for deletion-
Firstly make sure it can't be improved or re-written.
Then-
Read up on these links- they may help you in the process.
Put {{subst:afd1}} on the top of the page, and in the edit summary, type this: nominated for deletion: see [[Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName]]. Replace pagename with the page you just nominated for deletion.
Save the page. When the page re-loads, you should see the deletion tag at the top of the page. On this tag there will be a link to an AFD page, found in bold on the second line (You may share your thoughts on the matter at this article's entry on the Articles for deletion page. Click on that link.
This will take you straight to a blank AFD page. Start editing this page by putting in this text: {{subst:afd2 | pg=PageName | cat=Category | text=Reason the page should be deleted}} ~~~~, replacing 'PageName' with the name of the page you just nominated for deletion, 'Category' with the letter symbolising the category of the discussion, letters found here, and 'Reason the page should be deleted' with the reason you are nominating the page for deletion. A good idea is to mention a few policies the page fails.
This time, put this text in the edit summary: "Creating deletion discussion page for PageName because ..." and inserting reasons for nomination. Remember to replace 'PageName' with the name of the page you are nominating for deletion.
Finally, you have to list the page on the appropriate AFD page. To do this, click here and scroll down to Part 3 of the instructions. Click on the 'CLICK HERE' link, and insert the following to the bottom of the page- {{subst:afd3 | pg=PageName}} replacing 'PageName' once more. Include the page's name in your edit summary, and then you're done!
Some articles have already been nominated for deletion. For these articles, place {{subst:afdx}} at the top of the page to be deleted instead of {{subst:afd1}}. Also, when you list the page on the appropriate AFD page, instead of replacing 'PageName' with the name, type the name of the page with (2nd Nomination), however be sure to only use this on the last step.
I hope that small essay helped you- remember, feel free to ask me any other questions! Congratulations on being adopted, by the way- CattleGirl talk | e@ 11:11, 10 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you. This is much easier to follow, especially since it's all in logical order. Shimaspawn 15:35, 11 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You're welcome. I agree with the that the Articles for Deletion page is a bit confusing, it took me a while to get it- maybe that's something that could be changed. Anyway, happy editing- and congratulations on your recent adoption! CattleGirl talk | e@ 23:14, 15 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hey, what have you been up to? I've been running around sticking things in categories... and you know school and work and such. Shimaspawn 19:07, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re your message: No problem. Thanks for reverting all of his edits. =) -- Gogo Dodo 21:46, 28 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Re your message: You can report IPs to WP:AIV as you would registered accounts. Shared IPs are given a little more leniency because of the possibility of it being different people, but if there is vandalism, an admin will issue the appropriate block. Due to that shared possibility and the fact that the last edit was several hours ago, I'm going to not block them at this time. However, if you see them later today or tomorrow and they are vandalizing, do report them to WP:AIV. -- Gogo Dodo 00:30, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandal

[edit]

User:140.211.69.11 just vandalized the The Hype about Hydrogen article. I see that he has received many warnings. Can you block him? Best regards, -- Ssilvers 19:10, 1 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mary-Sue Who?

[edit]

I was reading a few of your comments on the AFD and what is this mary-sue thing you keep refering to? It's that a policy or guideline or just some colloquilism? Just curious. - Arch NME 17:56, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You seem to be doing fine

Although you haven't edited in a month. Do you think you're ready to be un-adopted? -Amarkov moo! 03:37, 7 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

As you may already be aware, Category:Psuedoreligionist Wikipedians and its subcategories, Category:Discordian Wikipedians, Category:Flying Spaghetti Monsterist Wikipedians, Category:SubGenius Wikipedians, and others, have been deleted. That deletion is now up for review. If you have anything you'd like to say on the subject, now is the time. If you know of any other editors who might have something to say on the subject, pass the word. If, on the other hand, you are not interested in the slightest, feel free to delete this.   — Bigwyrm watch mewake me 10:42, 26 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
