Not framed well. Better to focus on benefit to English Wikipedia, rather than framing it as a "favor" for a specific Swiss National Library. Should go like:
- Briefly mention Wikimedia Foundation (WMF) single unified login (SUL) initiative
- Discuss how WMF does not have a policy against shared accounts
- Relay the German Wikipedia experience -- how other non-profit organizations with WMF like missions to share knowledge can benefit English Wikipedia, if we let them
- Address how such accounts will be vetted:
- How we will know the operators actually represent the institution they claim to?
- How will such accounts be identified so that other editors know they are violations of username policy? NE Ent 12:24, 22 February 2014 (UTC)
I agree. At the moment it reads almost like a request to rerun the AN discussion about a specific exemption for SNL. Use that case as an introduction to the suggestion of a more general exception to WP:NOSHARE. You need to be specific about what you are proposing: it could be any of:
- Any group of people can share an account - completely abandon NOSHARE
- Allow groups with a corporate identity, including commercial companies
- Exclude commercial companies, but allow charities, "good causes", clubs, pressure groups, political parties
- Allow only GLAMs, i.e. organizations whose mission, like ours, is making knowledge freely available
In my opinion, only #4 would stand a snowflake's chance of getting agreement. JohnCD (talk) 22:44, 24 February 2014 (UTC)
