Hello, you had asked me to look at this article, it seems notable and acceptable, certainly not a serious concern for now. Cheers, SwisterTwister talk 06:59, 25 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Steven Welch requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a band or musician, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. reddogsix (talk) 04:03, 28 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Help improving prose?

[edit]

Hi Cross Bearer. I've noticed that in most of your articles there a frequently recurring errors in the prose. Would you like some help in improving your prose style?--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 18:13, 8 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@3family6: Yes. I told Metalworker14 in a past discussion, "I go by what information was available to me at the time, and if you find out more information, please, feel free to adjust the articles accordingly...so please follow behind me and fix my errors." I welcome any assistance of any kind you have to offer me.The Cross Bearer (talk) 03:23, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Sure. I'd say the most consistent thing I run across in articles you've created or expanded is an excessive use of commas, and confusions with prepositions and pronouns. Both of these can be very difficult to learn, I've found, and I myself have had to really watch my use of commas. I learned the rules mainly through trial and error (and then, in learning German, I am now going through the same process for that language). MOS:COMMA should help with comma use, and Purdue has some great worksheets on prepositions and relative pronouns. With the use of prepositions and relative pronouns, I admit that understanding which words to use can be difficult to determine, as there are certain stylistic conventions inherent to English, but also a lot of variation in which ones you can use, each choice usually involving some idiomatic aspects. Also, compare these edits to Sivion and Sintax the Terrific: Sivion, Sintax.
Last, if there's anything in my writing in which you can see room for improvement, please let me know. I've been working for awhile now on trying to make my encyclopedic style flow more, as opposed to merely listing events and facts with some variation in how I begin a sentence.--3family6 (Talk to me | See what I have done) 04:30, 9 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

A few questions and confessions

[edit]

I've been spending the past few days unlinking Jesus Freak Hideout. I have noticed a few things in many of the articles that you have created that I have comments and questions about. It seems you frequently add a lot of genres to the infobox for musicians/bands and albums. It's usually best to only have the three main genres. I like you you source them, but often it's overkill. If more than three are needed because it can't be narrowed-down, we're supposed to separate them with either {{flatlist}} or {{hlist}}. I personally find them unprofessional looking which is another reason why I don't like having more than three genres. Particularly when the genres are similar, they shouldn't all be listed. And when they're mutually exclusive (how many bands are all of "contemporary Christian music", "contemporary worship music", "Christian rock", "Christian alternative rock" and "Christian electronic dance music"? I didn't see all five together, but I have often seen three or four together.) they probably shouldn't be in the same infobox, even if different reviewers say that they're that genre. Finally, on the genres front anyhow, piping is usually not necessary. Listing "contemporary Christian music" rather "CCM" is preferable. Fans of the genre know what the initials mean, but others may not. Hovering is possible on desktops, but not easy on mobile devices. That's a judgement call and I will not be offended if you revert many of those changes.

We don't need to link common terms. I'm thinking of occupations like singer or instruments like guitars don't need to be linked. Types of albums, such as studio album, extended play/EP, live album, etc., are sufficiently well-known. As for piping of city names, I changed a lot of [[Seattle|Seattle, Washington]] to [[Seattle]], Washington (and a few other locations). I hope that's not a problem, but I have seen other editors simplify this sort of linking as well.

Lastly, and this was an issue with some of the older articles you created—more than a year ago—than the ones you've been adding recently, the lede was almost identical to the "background" section. In cases where they were too similar, I removed them. I hope that's not a problem.

Otherwise, I'm amazed at the volume of articles you have created. Truly tireless editor. Walter Görlitz (talk) 07:54, 17 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Oh. One more that I hit on my last AWB edit for the night: singer-songwriter is a genre, not an instrument! I have seen people add it as a profession, but only you add it as an instrument. When I see that, I know I've stumbled across one of your articles. =) I suspect that you have this in a text file or template somewhere. You might want to change that part of the template. What prompted you to become a Wikipedia editor?

  • The lack of coverage about many musicians and bands that are Christian music or even Christian music leaning on this encyclopedia. I went through a whole encyclopedia on mainly black gospel musicians and found well over 60 articles that were not done in Uncloudy Days by Bil Carpenter.

What motivated you to become a member of WikiProject Christian music? What kind of Christian music-related articles do you like to work on?

  • Well, it just simply goes hand-and-hand with my faith, and is something where it would naturally coincide with my beliefs. I am not nitpicky with regards to articles in the Christian music sector that merit articles on this encyclopedia. I am a lover of all music especially with messages about God and Jesus Christ.

Do you contribute to any other subject areas on Wikipedia?

  • Yes mainly music and media stuff, when it needs to get done, I try my best to get it accomplished.

You contributed to the Women in music and Black Women’s History edit-a-thons as part of Women in Red. What was it like participating in those events?

  • It gives me a greater since of fulfillment and appreciation with regards to others noticing my laboriously created articles.

What would you say are your favorite contributions as an editor? [Your answer doesn’t have to be limited to the Christian music project]

  • I would say first and foremost the Jimmy Greene article, for the fact his daughter was killed in a hideous way at such a young age, where this was my impetus to get the article to DyK.

Does your WikiProject collaborate with any other WikiProjects? What are some of the intersections of Christian music with other subject areas?

  • I try to collaborate with everyone on this encyclopedia because we work better together in achieving the aims, focuses, and mission statement of this project as a whole.

Has your project formed any special workgroups or task forces?

  • Not presently, while I believe we should be forming more task oriented groups to work on getting stuff expanded, fixed, or created in the first place.

What are WikiProject Christian music's most pressing needs?

  • We have a lack of actively involved editors in addressing the subjects in our genre, whether it is expanding an article to explain why an artist is notable such as Darrell Evans, or in creating good to great content from the get-go. Every piece someone could add in a beneficial way, is tremendously needed across the project and broader encyclopedia as a whole.

What would you say are some of the most pressing issues for Wikipedia as a whole?

  • We have a lack of notable articles across all subject areas on Wikipedia, yet we need editors to craft articles in a manner where it showcases each individual subjects notability. Notability is not inherited it must be earned with coverage or merit, such as winning a GMA Dove Award, or being nominated multiple times.

How can a new contributor help the WikiProject today?

  • They should be aware Wikipedia will not by any means accept articles based on your favorite band, musician, or artist. Every article on Wikipedia must adhere to our policies and guidelines per GNG for its notability and existence on this encyclopedia, and for biographies it must not go against BLP by any means. We should engage them to create notable content in the areas of interest to them, with researching and finding topics for them to work on in an encyclopedic manner.

Any other final comments?

  • I want editors as a whole to start getting stuff accomplished, rather than simply pondering what might be or will be done, if someone else does the task or work. I am only one believer amongst a couple billion, we should have all the content created that passes notability in a timely and effective manner.
Thank you very much for your response. I appreciate this. I edited your comment on Uncloudy Days in my write-up, as the sentence was a little difficult to understand as written. Please look it over on the article page to make sure that I understood your reply correctly. I also made a few minor grammatical corrections, which is usual for interview transcription, but I just want to let you know. Images

[edit]

I hope I didn't offend/threaten you with this edit. My reasoning for it is that it was not 300×300, and it was not in png format. I have no issue if with you uploading images to Wikipedia whatsoever, you feel that I have targeted you, that isn't my intention at all. WP:MoS/Images may be worth a read. Under size, the article says "As a general rule, images should not be set to a larger fixed width than 220px (the initial base width), and if an exception to this general rule is warranted, the resulting image should usually be no more than 400px wide (300px for lead images) and 500px tall, for comfortable display on the smallest devices "in common use" (though this may still cause viewing difficulties on some unusual displays)," and under Consideration of image download size "The PNG format is useful for storing graphics that contain text, line art, or other images with sharp transitions." In addition, many music articles use PNG images because they give a better quality in color. ilovechristianmusic (Tell Me Something!) 23:00, 12 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Ilovechristianmusic: No you did not offend me, I was just trying to rectify my mistake, while you made a great explanation in your comment above regarding cover art images. Another weakly sourced band article: Fighting Instinct. If you can find anything to support notability, I'll leave it. If not, feel free to PROD. It's on my watch list and I'll second the nom. Walter Görlitz (talk) 20:32, 13 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Walter Görlitz: Well, it would most certainly be a mistake to nominate the band for deletion or even a PROD, where I found reviews from AllMusic, CCM Magazine, Christian Broadcasting Network, Christianity Today, Cross Rhythms, HM Magazine, Jesus Freak Hideout, New Release Today (Tuesday), and The Phantom Tollbooth. I found an interview in CCM Magazine and a story in Cross Rhythms, and they have charted a song, "I Found Here".

Hi The Cross Bearer, I just wanted to let you know that I have added the "autopatrolled" permission to your account, as you have created numerous, valid articles. This feature will have no effect on your editing, and is simply intended to reduce the workload on new page patrollers. For more information on the patroller right, see Wikipedia:Autopatrolled. Feel free to leave me a message if you have any questions. Happy editing! MusikAnimal talk 05:23, 23 March 2016 (UTC) MusikAnimal talk 05:23, 23 March 2016 (UTC)[reply]

More sources please

[edit]

The first is for KJ-52's nickname of "Tweezy". I'm not sure if you're familiar with the artist. I Googled for the term on specific sites, but came up short. If you can or cannot find any sources to support, feel free to comment on the talk page.

The second is for Parachute Band. There's a band called Parachute and an editor of that article deleted as non-notable. They have had several charting albums, so I know they're notable, but you seem to find sources better than I do, and after a long week, I just want to sleep. If you can't find any (or can't find the time to check) it shouldn't be a problem. Cheers. Walter Görlitz (talk) 04:35, 16 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Iskra Lawrence, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page American Eagle. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Edits to Lemonade (Beyoncé album)

[edit]

I reverted some of your changes to the article. "Musician" is a generality that can encompass a number of roles, so it isn't needed in this case; Beyoncé is primarily and always a singer on her records, but she does not write songs herself, and the credits give the impression her contribution in writing parts of each song were marginal. I also removed the Metacritic score, since it's reiterating and overemphasizing a particular website's score when it is already stated in the section's prose (WP:UNDUE). Including it in the ratings template also renders a heading titled "Aggregate scores", which wont be commonly understood by readers in my opinion; the entire template is an optional supplement, so some editorial discretion should be applied and nothing be overemphasized when the purpose is to supplement the prose. Lastly, scores that aren't rendered as stars in the original source shouldn't be rendered as stars in an article (Template:Rating#When to use this template), as you did for NME and Now, which is not "NOW Toronto" (that is just the website's domain name; their About page acknowledges NOW is the title, as does the Now (newspaper) article. Dan56 (talk) 00:42, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Dan56: I just changed the word singer to musician and put NME in stars, the other stuff you mentioned about Metacritic and Now was not put in the article by myself, rather I was just formatting the Now reference. I did nothing to the Metacritic except to take the reference out of the ratings template, and put it into prose where it correctly belongs. You have educated me on the appearance of ratings mostly and the usage of the word musician, per your post, while I thank you for the assistance. The Cross Bearer (talk | contribs) 02:51, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your edit. I also support the 1922 year of birth. However, other editors may find the link you provided to be unreliable but I'll leave it for others. I have used the same source re deaths and it has been challenged. We'll see. Yours, Quis separabit? 17:51, 26 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Circle of Dust

[edit]

Another potential project. Someone is suggesting that the "Christian" genre should be removed from the article. We have two pretty good sources, but I think a few more would be appropriate. The genre is a bit outside of your usual range though, so I would understand if you don't follow-up on this one. Walter Görlitz (talk) 06:09, 4 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

DYK for Lemonade (Beyoncé album)

[edit]

On 4 May 2016, Did you know was updated with a fact from the article Lemonade (Beyoncé album), which you recently created, substantially expanded, or brought to good article status. The fact was ... that Lemonade was accompanied by the release of a 60-minute short film of the same name, which premiered on HBO? The nomination discussion and review may be seen at Template:Did you know nominations/Lemonade (Beyoncé album). You are welcome to check how many page hits the article got while on the front page (here's how, Lemonade (Beyoncé album)), and it may be added to the statistics page if the total is over 5,000. Finally, if you know of an interesting fact from another recently created article, then please feel free to suggest it on the Did you know talk page.

Notable drummer

[edit]

Alex Albert was recently created. He's played in several bands but the sources are about the bands and albums, not the drummer. If you could find sources, I would consider leaving the article. If you can't, please let me know and I'll take to for AfD. Walter Görlitz (talk) 14:19, 12 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@3family6, Metalworker14, and Walter Görlitz: I cannot find anything to support or substantiate his notability outside the bands he has been a member of, while he does have some merits with regards to biographies of musicians notability criteria, where general notability guidelines are concerned he does not have any independent coverage to merit a standalone article at this juncture. The Cross Bearer (talk | contribs) 04:40, 13 May 2016 (UTC)[reply]

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Willet (band), requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G4 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page appears to be a repost of material that was previously deleted following a deletion debate, such as at articles for deletion. Under the specified criteria, where a page has substantially identical content to that of a page deleted after debate, and any changes in the content do not address the reasons for which the material was previously deleted, it may be deleted at any time.

If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here.
