The name looks familiar
[edit]Hi, don't know if it's just coincidence, or if you're this Tim Osborn. While there's certainly no complaint about your edits, you may wish to consider the Wikipedia:Conflict of interest guideline which strongly recommends that possibly involved editors declare their interests, both on their user pages and on the talk page of the related article they are editing. This applies particularly if those edits may be contested, which isn't the case, but it's worth thinking about. Anyway, welcome! . . dave souza, talk 16:25, 3 June 2011 (UTC)
- dave souza... yes I am that Tim Osborn. Thanks for the welcome -- and for helpfully pointing out the COI issue. I'll try to declare my interests according to the recommendations. TimOsborn (talk) 23:24, 6 June 2011 (UTC)
- Dave Souza, incidentally, is one of the Good Guys active on the Wikipedia climate-change pages. Though we often have differing opinions on interpreting the science you professionals publish.... We do try to maintain civility and collegiality. Let me also welcome you to the project. Cheers, Pete Tillman (talk) 21:41, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
Plagiarism section at Hockey stick controversy
[edit]I just revised this section, including taking some suggestions you made at Edward Wegman. If you get a chance, could you look over this section and comment as appropriate. Actually, the whole article could use work, so your comments re that would also be most welcome. If you missed it, I also did some revisions along the same lines at Wegman's page.
By way of introduction: I'm a consulting geologist, based in northern Arizona and New Mexico. I earned a B.S. in geology and chemistry at Rice University, and a M.S. in geochemistry at UNC-C, (mumble) years ago. I've been interested in paleoclimates since student days, am well-read on the subject, and have considerable experience applying statistical analyses to geological data.
I hope you were able to avoid the worst of theClimategate unpleasantness. Though I gather that, at least in the case of Dr. Mann, some of this was arguably self-inflicted. Best wishes, Pete Tillman (talk) 21:36, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

Congrats on your elevation!
[edit]Congratulations on taking over leadership of CRU, and best wishes for the future! Nice to see good news popping up on my watchlist. Thanks for the various edits you've made from time to time, these have been very helpful. Also, all the best to Phil Jones, who I hope will enjoy a long and well earned retirement. My regards to all, . . dave souza, talk 22:47, 20 January 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for the message. My edits have generally been minor and sporadic -- little time for anything more substantial and always a danger of veering off into original research. Cheers. Not sure that even with my elevation I am sufficiently notable to have a WP entry which someone decided to make in 2014. It's not like I'm the "ringleader of the infamous global warming cabal at Wikipedia" ;-) TimOsborn (talk) 20:04, 22 January 2017 (UTC)

Looking at your user page, shouldn’t you note your COI on this talk page? Doug Weller talk 19:13, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
- Sorry to be a bit slow, have had a nasty cold for a few days, glad to have tested negative. Like all these rules, it tends to evolve and bring in new forms which I've not kept up with. WP:COIEDIT links to relevant forms for relevant article talk pages, which can be done by yourself, or one of us can do it. There's a different form if you get paid to edit. It looks a bit draconian, but the noticeboard more helpfully explains that "The COI guideline does not absolutely prohibit people with a connection to a subject from editing articles on that subject. Editors who have such a connection can still comply with the COI guideline by discussing proposed article changes first, or by making uncontroversial edits". Looking over your recent edits, they seem reasonably uncontroversial. Let me know if clarification /is needed, . dave souza, talk 21:33, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks Dave Souza, I’ll add something to its talk page. Yes, my edits are uncontroversial — simply reverting to follow the quoted sources TimOsborn (talk) 22:20, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
- Yes, you’re right. As stated here User:TimOsborn “If I forget, then let me know!” — thanks for letting me know TimOsborn (talk) 22:17, 5 June 2022 (UTC)
- Thanks. I saw that and figured you would once nudged. Doug Weller talk 07:10, 6 June 2022 (UTC)
