Rationale behind this userbox

[edit]

There has been much discussion on Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Userboxes#Deletion of userboxes about the purpose of userboxes, leading to a suggestion by User:Dleigh that userboxes currently expressing affiliation/membership/opinion be changed to represent that a user has an interest in a topic. These userboxes could then be used to find users who might be able to help with articles on particular topics. There currently wasn't a userbox like this for LGBT issues, but there was a rather long list of Wikipedians interested in contributing to articles on LGBT issues, so I've created a corresponding userbox. I feel this userbox will be more useful than the other related userboxes that express orientation or opinion. This way we can express a common interest without having to endorse a common politics or traverse the often-murky waters of LGBT identity. - AdelaMae (talk - contribs) 00:22, 2 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Suggestion

[edit]
  • I think maybe you should take off "which does not necessarily reflect the user's sexual orientation" because -- and I don't think this was your intention -- it makes it sound as though the user would be ashamed if s/he were LGBT. I'm a straight ally and I definitely wouldn't be ashamed if I were gay. THE AMERICAN METROSEXUAL (talk) 19:12, 5 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
