New Zealand election results data

[edit]

Hello, I'm looking for results (at the district/electorate level) of New Zealand parliamentary elections (1970-1993 is the goal). I noticed that you've edited a number of the entries on Wikipedia for these elections, so I'm wondering if you have more specific data (that is, not just who won but how many people voted for/against them). If you do I'd be quite appreciative to get access to it (it's for an academic project at the University of Rochester). You can contact me at: ag002k@TAKETHISOUTmail.rochester.edu

World Maps

[edit]

If I understand correctly you have prepared the world maps such as LocationAustralia.png for Wikipedia, good work and thank you for the improvement. However regarding the current LocationAustralia.png , it seems to be a political map of the Commonwealth of Australia; where as some people have mistaken this for a map of the Australian continent which would of course be the mainland, New Guinea, Tasmania, the Torres Strait and Moluccas Islands. Timor I am not too sure of, it is on the Australian continental plate but is not on the continental shelf.211.30.95.182 05:21, 1 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Andorra in World War II

Thanks very much for the information on WW2 Andorra I added the heading out of a flight of fanciful curiosity, thankyou for satisfying it :).

Vietnamese province maps

[edit]

Hi Vardion, the locator maps that you've prepared for the Vietnamese province articles are all apparently incorrect. In 2004, Dien Bien Province was split off from Lai Chau Province. The outlines on your maps mostly show this split, but the border between the two provinces is incorrect: see [1] and vi:Hình:Bando dienbien.jpg. In addition, the Lai Chau map hasn't been updated to show the 2004 split. for Would you mind updating the maps in your spare time? Thanks so much for your maps; they make the articles worth looking at! :^) – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 06:16, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your work, but unfortunately, you corrected the spelling on the old, incorrect version then uploaded it, so the maps are back to how they used to be. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 23:09, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
TP.HCM is w/o the TP part. DHN 23:24, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Everything looks fine now, except these maps were originally uploaded to the English Wikipedia; the older maps here override the newer ones at Commons, so you'd either have to reupload them here or get an administrator to delete the whole lot of them (and recreate their description pages). – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 23:59, 20 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]
At the Vietnamese Wikipedia, you could either upload over the files themselves, or post a message at vi:Wikipedia:Biểu quyết xóa tập tin or vi:Wikipedia:Guestbook for non-Vietnamese speakers. I don't have the time to delete the files myself, but maybe someone else does. – Minh Nguyễn (talk, contribs) 02:51, 21 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ian Fraser

[edit]

An anon has asked on the talk pages of Ian Fraser, Ian Fraser (politician) and Ian Fraser (broadcaster) whether these are the same people. As you created the stub for the founder of Libertarianz, I thought you might know. The original version of that article implies that the politician is dead.-gadfium 21:29, 15 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Old Apostolic Church

[edit]

Hi there

I would like to know where did you get the information about the Old Apostolic Church from ?

I myself is in the church, and would like to correct you on a few matters...

Picture

[edit]

Dear Vardion, Irfan worked but I still can't upload the picture. Wiki says I uploaded it successfully, but the picture doesn't change. Therefore, I'd be glad to send you the picture, if you would tell me how. Cheers, Str1977 09:32, 3 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Problem is fixed now. Thanks. Str1977 15:56, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Palestinian Authority

[edit]

In my quest to update country articles to use Template:Infobox Country, I discovered that there is no File:LocationPalestinanAuthority.png (or Palestine, etc.). Quite simply, your maps are bar none the best. Could you make one for the project? I'd personally appreciate it. If you do, remember to include the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. I think your current blank world map only includes the West Bank. Thanks!--naryathegreat | (talk) 16:20, 4 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese provinces, Indian states

Any chance of getting subdivisions of China and India, or idea where I can get such a map of the world? Thanks again for the great maps!--JWB 21:46, 5 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

CC-SA licensing for maps?

[edit]

Hello - your maps are awesome, and I've begun using the public domain versions on Wikitravel. However, some of the maps you've made, specifically Image:LocationFalklandIslands.png, are GFDL, which is incompatible with the CC-SA 1.0 license used on Wikitravel. Would you be willing to dual-license these maps CC-SA 1.0, CC-SA 2.0 and any later CC-SA version, or else release them to the public domain as well? I'm mostly to be found on Wikitravel so you can leave a note on my talk page there or on my Wikipedia talk page. Thanks! -- Wrh2 21:09, 10 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Politician photos

[edit]

Hi Vardion; just a note for when you get back. I've tagged a couple of the photos of New Zealand politicians as {{Non-free fair use in}} where they would otherwise be deleted, and re-uploaded several others (with either a .jpg or .gif extension, as provides by .govt.nz).-gadfium 09:03, 29 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

NZ election articles.

[edit]

Looking at Category:Elections in New Zealand I notice that the 2002 and 2005 articles (and the 2005 category) have a comma after the word election. Are you okay with me getting these renamed? - SimonLyall 10:09, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the comma in "Country election, 20xx" is something of a standard on Wikipedia, and we renamed the 2005 election to comply with it. If anything, we should rename all the older elections too, but no one has bothered to do so.-gadfium 18:15, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ethiopian Wolf Map

[edit]

I noticed your map, Image:Ethiopian Wolf-area.png, included areas of Ethiopia bordering Sudan and even included some areas of Sudan. Can you tell me where you got this info? The Sudanese borderland areas and Sudanese areas in Green on the map are actually lowlands, and I doubt that their range is that far, though I do believe there are a few populations in Wollo to the east of the northern circle. — ዮም | (Yom) | TalkcontribsEthiopia 06:27, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well done on the maps

[edit]

I've seen the maps around for ages but never realised until now that they were your work. I have to say a big congratulations. They are absolutely superb. Well done. FearÉIREANN\(caint) 00:10, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Master world map

[edit]

I dont know if you can but I'd like to have an empty world map with this level of detail. The current blank map is also geographicaly inacurate (Russian - Alaskan connection would be welcome). What would you think of such an idea? --Cat out 09:39, 14 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid that at the moment, I'm not able to do anything much with regards to images — I'm currently living in a country where many of Wikipedia's servers are blocked, including the ones which seem to handle image files — even viewing an image takes work, and I can't find any way at all to upload things. As such, I can't actually do anything about the images now.
However, I'm not sure I could help in any case — the map you pointed to comes from a special map of the Caribbean — I'm afraid I don't have a global map of the same detail. The distance between Russia and Alaska is a bit more complicated — it's an artifact of the projection system used. The map is actually supposed to be an oval shape rather than a rectangle, and when seen without its oval border, the white space which is supposed to be "off the map" looks like it's actually sea, which causes things to seem distorted. If I had known that the map would be used for the things that it is, I might have chosen a different projection, but the original map was merely meant to be a base for smaller maps to be cut out of (the little locator maps on each country's page). Changing the map from an oval one to a rectangular one would require redrawing the whole thing, and I don't have the necessary tools where I currently live — and someone else would do a far better job anyway, I'm sure.
So... sorry, but I can't actually do anything right now. If the problems still exist when I get back to my own country, where I'm able to actually do something, maybe I can take a look.
-- Vardion 06:15, 16 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I see...
  • You can email it (any image) to me and I can upload it for you :)
  • I realise that but on some maps (not the ones on wikipedia), I observed that alaska is simply being drawn twice, or asia is placed left and the americas to the right of the map (as the atlantic is mosty vacant of any island countries).
  • Did you drew the Caribbean map yourself or via a tool?
I have no reason to rush the matter. I can even wait a full year. I'd rather wait for the pro :) Oh and google for HTTP-tunnel may suprisingly take care of most of your problems.
