Hi, could you explain to me which policies i need to keep in mind in regards to the information for this player ?, i wasn't aware of any policies not being followed on this case. Thanks.

Matt Clement

Hi there, I exist (Matthew Samuel) and would appreciate that you didn't delete me. Clement the ballplayer doesn't have a monopoly on the name or the person. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Vonpike (talkcontribs) 23:35, 25 May 2009 (UTC)

Mike Tomlin

My goal is to standardize all of the entries for NFL head coaches, beginning with the current ones. Hence my addition to Tomlin's page, which I have recently standardized for every current coach except Bill Belichick (His entry has a substantial section, and I don't want to undermine it before setting up some standard first). I'm certainly willing to concede that Mike Tomlin does not have an influential or lengthy coaching tree considering his young career. I think, however, it is notable to see who head coaches previously served under, and which of their assistants have become head coaches. I would propose that the lists remain on all pages, and that further explanation be included on those coaches for whom it is relevant (Bill Belichick, Tony Dungy, Bill Parcells, etc.). I have not begun working on any past head coaches yet, with the intent to clean up the current slate first.J. Matthew Bailey (talk) 06:07, 12 February 2009 (UTC)

Speedy delete tags

Anyone other than the article's author can remove these tags. This indicates there is some indication the subject is notable, and that it's not a clear case. The next step would be discussion. You can ask the person why they think it's notable, and if you're not satisfied you can take it to wp:AfD. ChildofMidnight (talk) 02:54, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Happy New Year

I think the key words you used were "got away with". I notice the Dez Bryant article is A-okay, and the speedy nom was declined. Just because someone gets away with something doesn't mean it's a good idea. If speedy deletion is contested you can certainly take it to wp:AfD. I would suggest following the advice of good faith editors who steer you right, rather than imitating things that seem shady. I don't think there's a hard and fast rule about re-adding a speedy tag, but it's kind of bad form when it's contested, because it's a clear indication that it's not a clear case which is the whole basis for a speedy deletion. Take care. ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:16, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

What do you think about this article and AfD: NFC South Curse? ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:27, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
You're welcome to participate in the AfD. Make sure to include your reasoning. Keep in mind that a merge is also an option, and articles are deleted or kept based on notability. Have fun. ChildofMidnight (talk) 03:30, 1 January 2009 (UTC)

Baseball Hall of Famers

Hey Yankees how are you doin'? I was wondering if you can help me to get User:Kinston eagle to understand that when players are voted in the Hall of Fame that they are Hall of Famers. Thanks --Phbasketball6 (talk) 21:12, 12 January 2009 (UTC)

Explanation

Why did you remove the changes I made to the Brian Dawkins' entry? I think the fact that he's the longest tenured athlete in Philadelphia is a relevant point, one which is easily verifiable, well-known in the Philly area but not outside of it, and is an interesting piece of information that deserves to be on the page --- in other words, exactly the sort of thing you'd find on wikipedia. Please explain. Surely the reason can't be that there is too much information on the page --- check out the Ed Reed entry by comparison. If you wanted to change the wording of it or relocate it to another portion of the article, then fine --- but to delete it entirely is unnecessary.Stoops Mike (talk) 18:55, 13 January 2009 (UTC)

Re: American Football player articles

Yeah, I'd be interested in doing some more articles! Perhaps you could make a subpage at WP:NFL with requested articles so multiple people can work on the list. How many players are on the list? Thanks! Patken4 (talk) 00:28, 6 February 2009 (UTC)

Hi. Larry English was on my watchlist from its previous incarnation. To answer your question asked in this edit summary, the previous incarnation was deleted because it was a copy/paste of his official bio at http://www.niuhuskies.com/sports/m-footbl/mtt/english_larry00.html. Regardless of notability articles which are a copyright violation and have no valid version to revert to are deleted, but that deletion is without prejudice towards creating a new non-infringing article. (What you have created is fine and has no problems whatsoever - since I performed the deletion, I just wanted to answer your question.) --B (talk) 18:50, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Morgan Trent

A tag has been placed on Morgan Trent requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. Jenuk1985 | Talk 21:39, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

March 2009

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but you removed a speedy deletion tag from Morgan Trent, a page you have created yourself. If you do not believe the page should be deleted, you can place a {{hangon}} tag on the page, under the existing speedy deletion tag (please do not remove the speedy deletion tag), and make your case on the page's talk page. Administrators will look at your reasoning before deciding what to do with the page. Thank you. Jenuk1985 | Talk 21:43, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

AfD nomination of Morgan Trent

I have nominated Morgan Trent, an article that you created, for deletion. I do not think that this article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and have explained why at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Morgan Trent. Your opinions on the matter are welcome at that same discussion page; also, you are welcome to edit the article to address these concerns. Thank you for your time.

Please contact me if you're unsure why you received this message. Jenuk1985 | Talk 22:18, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Yankees10, I realize why you want this article to stay and quite frankly I don't care if it does. Like you, I know the guy is likely to be notable in the near future. However, right now he doesn't meet the notability guidelines and thus you can't be upset it gets deleted. Per the guidelines, it probably should not be here. My advice - copy and paste the page to a sandbox of yours in case it gets deleted, then re-create it when he's drafted.►Chris NelsonHolla! 22:39, 6 March 2009 (UTC)
I understand and share your concern but be aware of WP:Canvassing. The best thing to do to raise awareness is to post neutrally in an open place like WP:DELSORT. Cheers! DoubleBlue (talk) 23:06, 6 March 2009 (UTC)

Nick Adenhart

Please check with the team website. Adenhart is still listed. A transaction is still necessary to remove him from the roster. I'm not sure how long it will take before they do that, but due to the mourning I don't expect they're in a rush. --Muboshgu (talk) 16:43, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Understood, but the page is pretty clear on the fact that he is deceased. Half the page is dedicated to discussion of his death. So, the infobox lists his game against the A's as his last ML appearance, because it was his last appearance. However, he's still listed on the team roster until they take whatever step they need to take to remove his name. It's the same, in this respect, as when a team signs a free agent, makes a trade, or releases a player. We need to wait until he's removed from their roster (which will happen soon enough) before we remove the roster navbox and Angels from the infobox. --Muboshgu (talk) 20:00, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
We will have to agree to disagree. And I agree that I don't want to sit by my computer reverting this change for the next couple days. --Muboshgu (talk) 20:05, 10 April 2009 (UTC)

Revere

I don't dislike you; he's not on the Twins' 40 man roster. Saying he is in his infobox is inaccurate. I also don't see why you feel a need to lift his career highlights from his infobox and sectionalize the article into one sentence sections.

On a different note, I went to the Miracle home opener last night. Revere made an unbelievable catch in center. I look forward to watching him this season.--Johnny Spasm (talk) 11:52, 11 April 2009 (UTC)

You kinda lost me a little. I'm not an expert on the Wikipedia thing, but if a navbox is more appropriate than the template, then fine. Change it. Right now, I have the template on all existing Miracle players, but if you correct Revere's, I'll copy it and paste it on the pages of the other players in place of what is there. My thinking is that breaking up the article into sections or not is a matter of style. In my opinion, Revere's article is a borderline stub, and thus too short to necessitate breaking up into sections, however, I'm not the end all final authory on his or anyone else's article.--Johnny Spasm (talk) 19:14, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
OK, I looked at it in your sandbox. I'm not 100% sure what a sandbox is, but that's where people practice stuff, and what they do there isn't official on the site, right? Is there an official one that can go on the sites?--Johnny Spasm (talk) 00:15, 12 April 2009 (UTC)
Yeah, that thing you created, you created in your sandbox. If it's more appropriate for the article on Ben Revere and the other articles that I put the Miracle roster on, then I should probably change it. I can't just take it out of your sandbox, can I?--Johnny Spasm (talk) 00:30, 12 April 2009 (UTC)

I think userfication is your best bet. Asking one of the admins to recreate this page with the name User:Yankees10/Austin Romine. I hope this helps.

The article you created was just deleted?
All is not lost. Here is what you can do right now:

Many administrators will be happy to give you a copy of your deleted article, either by putting it on a special user page for you (a process called userfication) or by e-mailing you a copy.

Once you have the article, you can try to resolve the issues why it was deleted.

If you've repaired the article, or you believe the reasons for deleting the article were in error, you can dispute the deletion at Deletion Review. Generally, you must show how the previous deletion(s) were in error, but this is the place to resolve disputes about whether a deletion was wrong.

OK, please quit reverting the edits I'm making. Most other famous people that have kids have it noted on their Wikipedia page, and the source I had it from is from Timmons's official web site.

As for his middle name, which has been left alone (for once, and thank you), the only reason there's not a source to that was because it was mentioned during a playoff game this past year that his middle name is Olajuwon and I can't find anything listed.

Please just leave the Lawrence Timmons page alone. Thanks! Jgera5 (talk) 01:34, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Mark McGwire owns the record for most home runs in a single season at 70. It is a record and it should be in his page. In case you did not read the rest of the post or whatever you call it, and tell me it's not a record. I know a lot about the record - I saw him hit it off of Steve Trachsel. What do you say now? Stats

Hi. I've notices that you've been acting as a sort of gatekeeper for stats on the infoboxes, and was wondering why, as in the Pir Traynor article, we should not include a Triple Crown category stat (in HR) or a stat where he is on the top 500 list? There is room for 6 stat categories for each infobox, what is the reason, other than personal aesthetics and preference, for non-inclusion. I'm not trying to be argumentative, but I really don't see the issue. Thanks. - Masonpatriot (talk) 17:48, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Actually, that's a slight misrepresentation of what the template doc says... it says, referring to the first stat line, "the most important statistic for evaluating this player. Will vary according to what the player is most well-known for." This obviously refers only to the first stat line. The only other guidance is on the stat2 line, "another statistic (up to six can be used--in exceptional cases!)." So my questions still stands, since the "mot important" standard applies only to the first stat line, I don't see the reason why to exclude a Triple Crown category and a stat where the player is ranked on the all-time list article. Again, not trying to be a pest, but I just want a rationale. Thanks. - Masonpatriot (talk) 18:13, 25 June 2009 (UTC)
Thanks, and I appreciate you saying as much. My take is that the stat listings should not automatically default to what is most favorable to the player (though I don't view Trayor or Alou not hitting a ton of HRs as a negative, by default). I think the inclusion of thos stats, especially Triple Crown stats, help a casual reader see the type of player they were. Also, just seeing that more than three stats are often used for active players, there are often just three used for retired players because the old "retired" infobox had only three spots. Anyway, thanks again. (P.S. - Just saw that you are a Bucs fan too... I think we're in for a rocky season!). - Masonpatriot (talk) 19:01, 25 June 2009 (UTC)

Looking at traffic statistics, it seems that the number of views on Willie Mays jumped suddenly from under 1000 per day to over 16000. And you can see on Talk:Willie Mays that at least a few people didn't realize that it was Billy Mays who had died even after coming to this article and seeing nothing. (The response explaining the confusion was added a few hours after the rest.) I think that for the meantime at least it is a good idea to leave the hatnote in. -- Soap Talk/Contributions 01:55, 29 June 2009 (UTC)
