Information icon Hello. This is a message to let you know that one or more of your recent contributions, such as the edit you made to St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary, did not appear constructive and has been reverted. Please take some time to familiarise yourself with our policies and guidelines. You can find information about these at our welcome page which also provides further information about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. If you only meant to make test edits, please use the sandbox for that. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you may leave a message on my talk page. Why would we need to list the old alumni website when there is a new one? Discuss this on the article's talk page or leave it alone. Meters (talk) 18:39, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Edits to St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary

[edit]

I do understand that the history of edits I created yesterday must look confusing. I haven't done Wikipedia editing in a long, long time, and just wasn't as well versed with the code syntax as I used to be. My intention was to include two Alumni Association website links (both are still actively searched for) in the External Links section, and to a couple of small edits to the address information.

If you note some anonymous changes about the address info, those were me (aka Yavapai Democrat), BUT i note with dismay that some other anonymous user (not me) made edits to the page to include ugly comments about one of our notable alumni, Sean Hannity. I repudiate those comments and attest to their falsity. He and I were schoolmates for a couple of years, and while I disagree profoundly with many of his points-of-view, I would never disparage him publicly.

I hope that clears things up. Yavapai Democrat (talk) 18:55, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I forgot to place a note on one of my edits. In it, I re-corrected the school's Closing Date back to 1984 (which I know is correct) and included a link that confirms it. Yavapai Democrat (talk) 21:45, 28 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I've put the 1985 date back, and restored the New York Times ref. It clearly says that the school was still open in 1985. I have no idea how reliable the new source you added is, but The New York Time is definitely reliable. Meters (talk) 00:42, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
The NYT article you link to refers to the 1985 closing of Cathedral Preparatory Seminary in Brooklyn with students being able to transfer over to a different Cathedral Prep in Elmhurst, Queens, the latter being the same school whose Alumni Association was merged with that of St. Pius X Preparatory Seminary which did in fact close in 1984. Please restore the 1984 date and the reference I linked to about the History of the St. Pius X Residence for retired priests. That residence was in the building that used to house the school, and it continued long after 1984. Yavapai Democrat (talk) 01:42, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Please indent your replies, and son't use external links rather than refs.
My apologies. I misread the ref. It's a bit odd that the only ref in this article actually only mentions this school in passing in one sentence. I would suggest that you add some references that show the notability of this school, or the article might be deleted.
By that way, since you claim to have been "intimately involved with the controversy over the school's closing" you may have a conflict of interest. Please read WP:COI. I have removed some unsourced and unacceptably WP:POV material about the closing controversy. I don't know who added it (it wasn't by your current account) but COI editing can lead to that type of problem. Meters (talk) 01:56, 29 August 2018 (UTC)[reply]
