Automatic, Supervised, or Manual: Automatic
Programming language(s): AutoWikiBrowser
Source code available: AWB
Function overview: Removes inapplicable AfC maintenance categories from user talk pages.
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate): WT:AFC#miscategorisation (permalink)
Edit period(s): One time run
Estimated number of pages affected: 100,000
Exclusion compliant (Yes/No): No
Already has a bot flag (Yes/No): Yes
Function details: {{AFC submission/comments}}, after it started being used on users' talk pages, was inappropriately placing maintenance categories that should only have been on drafts. As the comments template was subst:'ed, these categories (e.g. Category:AfC submissions declined as a non-notable biography) now contain many user talk pages. This bot will simply remove all of the categories (specifically, the ones that {{AFC submission/comments}}
uses) from pages in the user talk namespace.
Discussion
[edit]- One quick issue: you might want to make sure that this is just going to affect the end result of
{{Afc decline}}
. That is, I could sorta-possibly-remotely see there being a tiny handful of actual submissions that happened to be on User talk (for some reason?) that might have legitimate declines on them (like, someone literally drafted their article on User talk: and submitted it from there). I'd think the AfC helpers would have moved them to /sandbox or Draft: space, but who knows *shrug*. Otherwise, this is probably safe to Approved for trial (100 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. just to make sure it works. As a heads up, the discussion link is wrong; it's actually Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation#miscategorisation. And, in case it's confusing to others (I talked to the user on IRC), the issue this is essentially fixing was that{{AFC submission/comments|...|cat=no}}
wasn't being used in{{Afc decline}}
(i.e., the latter reused the former, which is also used for, e.g., Draft:*-space declines); thus, the category mistakenly got added and thus messed up their sorting stuff. --slakr\ talk / 00:05, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]- Slakr, I'll filter out pages transcluding {{AFC submission}}, which should catch the legitimate drafts. - Trial complete. APerson (talk!) 00:42, 22 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
- Approved. — From my sampling, it looks fine. You might wanna disable any additional AWB cleanup fixes to avoid confusion, however, for when people check their talk pages and wonder why comments from other people and/or their own were modified. :P Also, obviously try to keep the edit rate somewhat reasonable, given the high number of pages and the relatively low urgency of the task. --slakr\ talk / 17:55, 25 August 2015 (UTC)[reply]
