Function details: The bot will convert lists of National Register of Historic Places listings to a template based format with to a template based format using {{NRHP header}} and {{NRHP row}}. The layout of the page won't be changed for the casual reader, but for the updater live because a lot easier:
- Consistent layout is ensured
- Updating is easier and it's easier to find incorrect templates
- It becomes possible to make detailed progress statistics (example)
- It becomes possible to automatically suggest images to be added to the lists. See for example nl:Wikipedia:Wikiproject/Erfgoed/Belgische Erfgoed Inventarisatie/Vlaanderen/Ongebruikte foto's
- It becomes possible to plot items on the map: All monuments, just monuments in a certain region, monuments lacking an image (great for photo expeditions). (example 1 and example 2)
- It becomes possible to automatically categorize images at Commons (example).
- It becomes possible to automatically add coordinates to images at Commons (example).
This system is already in use on several Wikipedia's.
The bot tries to extract the different fields from the current table with a bunch of regular expressions and it will also try to find the reference number of a listing in linked articles. I already did some tests and I'm now working of fixing the last bugs and tweaking things. I'm checking every edit now. When I'm confident that the bot isn't producing strange results I'll probably speed up. multichill (talk) 12:11, 29 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
