Discussion
[edit]- Are you aware that SporkBot (talk · contribs) is already working on this task? — Train2104 (talk • contribs • count) 02:05, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes indeed. Plastikspork and I have communicated on it. My intention is to provide redundancy for these tasks as needed. The pace possibly indicates a need. --Bsherr (talk) 03:15, 21 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Redundancy is not a bad thing, but I have now finished this particular task. However, I would certainly support having someone else helping out with cleanup tasks at TFD. Hopefully there won't be many more of these 150k transclusion jobs. Thanks! Plastikspork ―Œ(talk) 04:57, 22 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- There were a few problems using AWB noted on the SporkBot BRfA. Will you be able to deal with these? Otherwise it might make more sense to write a program to do this, or even just create a complete clone of SporkBot, if that is what is wanted. - Kingpin13 (talk) 16:20, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Could I have more information about the whitespace bug? --Bsherr (talk) 04:48, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
See this edit, maybe this has been fixed at AWB now, but not sure(Oh, sorry, I'm guessing you've already seen that, I'll ask at WT:AWB what the status of this is). Also see the first post at this section, most of these things would be possible with AWB, but you'd have to remember to change them manually, so it will require more work from you per run. - Kingpin13 (talk) 07:48, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]- I've asked at WT:AWB, but tbh the whitespace isn't really a problem. It's if you're willing to manually change the settings on AWB for every run, which could be a bit painstaking - Kingpin13 (talk) 07:54, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Thanks, Kingpin! I have indeed already done over a thousand edits manually of the same type my bot would do automatically without issue. I like AWB, and I personally haven't bumped into anything that would make me prefer perl, though I'm all ears for advice. Customizing prior to each run is just part of handling this particular job, and I don't mind it. --Bsherr (talk) 21:07, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Ah, the whitespace removal shouldn't be a problem. If you could either link me to the manual edits you've made for this, or find something we can trial the bot on, then should be able to move towards approval :). Cheers, - Kingpin13 (talk) 09:13, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Sure! For the manual edits, take a look at my contribs on September 21, 2010. Let me know if that works! (Sorry for the delay in replying; I must have missed it on my watch list.) --Bsherr (talk) 15:33, 8 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Approved. Uncontroversial, previously approved task. Only run this bot if there is consensus (at TfD) to change that template. - Kingpin13 (talk) 13:59, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
