Discussion
[edit]Hey CrimsonBlue! Thanks for your interest in bots! Before I can give you approval you need to deal with a few things:
- Your task currently is to vague to be approved. What specifically do you want to do with this bot?
You are pretty young: 230 something edits. Normally we want our botops to be a bit more seasoned, but there is certainly no hard-fast rule.(CrimsonBlue talked to me off-wiki and has identified that he is an older user who has RTV'ed. Tim1357 (talk)- You need some sort of community consensus to prove the bot is helpful, and wanted by the community.
- You need to read over the bot policy, just so you understand the do's and dont's of bot-oppmanship. Thanks! Tim1357 (talk) 19:49, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- There is currently a bot that handles things in a manner that I wish to run this bot in. When consensus to rename a category per WP:CFD the bot would replace all the pages in that category with a new category. Consensus has already been reached User:Cydebot.
- Hmm, but isn't User:Cydebot handling that pretty well? Tim1357 (talk) 20:38, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Cydebot has many tasks, and there are quite a few renames that it doesn't get to in a timely manner... I have been doing a few manually, but just don't have the time to sit there. I also believe that he doesn't handle speedy renames. CrimsonBlue (talk) 20:55, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- That seems reasonable then. I might be missing something though. Tim1357 (talk) 20:59, 17 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{BAGAssistanceNeeded}} Anything else that needs to be answered or done? CrimsonBlue (talk) 00:42, 23 April 2010 (UTC) I changed the source to pywikipedia, because I found an easier way to carry out the same task. CrimsonBlue (talk) 01:35, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Any reason why this isn't exclusion compliant? Both pywikipedia and AWB are by default afaik. - Kingpin

- You are right, it's built into wikipedia.py. CrimsonBlue (talk) 18:01, 23 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Approved for trial (50 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Tim1357 (talk) 20:27, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Trial complete. Everything went fine CrimsonBlue (talk) 22:38, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Were you ever able to get it to report items as ready for deletion? Tim1357 (talk) 22:55, 25 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes, however I think it's best to leave that out. Only administrators can add/remove categories from the list the bot checks, so it will be reviewed before it is removed from that list anyhow. CrimsonBlue (talk) 01:31, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]
- After reading through this again I feel that I need to add some things in, so there is no confusion. This bot runs the same script as User:Cydebot, and reads from the page WP:CFD/W, which only administrators can edit, and processes their requests. The bot will still handle the renaming requests, but it will also remove pages from the categories when there is consensus to delete. If there is anything else I need to do regarding this please just let me know. Thanks CrimsonBlue (talk) 06:56, 26 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

- Approved. I can't see any harm in annother bot helping out User:Cydebot. Tim1357 talk 03:40, 1 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
