Automatic or Manually Assisted: Automatic, supervised or unsupervised
Programming Language(s): Python (pywikipedia)
Function Summary: adding interwiki links
Edit period(s) (e.g. Continuous, daily, one time run): daily or weekly; could sometimes be running for example 12 hours without supervision
Edit rate requested: 6 edits per minute
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): N
Function Details:
- It is not unsual that interwiki links from English to Finnish pages are missing. I would use this bot from Finnish-language Wikipedia, and getting the bot flag here would allow me to improve the linking between these two Wikipedias. I would use the interwiki.py script. EjsBot already has the bot flag in Finnish Wikipedia.
- I practically always run
svn update
before starting the bot up in autonomous mode.
Discussion
[edit]About the name of the bot: My unified account name is (and I use it in my home wiki). I already completed the login unification process, and it is not yet technically possible to merge my Finlux account with the global account. I tagged Finlux account as my primary account here, since I had not used the other one since 2006 (in fact, I had nearly forgotten that I had even registered it). –Finlux (talk) 02:14, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Fine. Approved for trial (50 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete.. — Werdna talk 04:56, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Ok. The bot has now done 50 edits. –Finlux (talk) 14:41, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
You're not just adding Finnish links, you're also adding pt: links. — Werdna talk 01:54, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes, that's true. I cannot change that behaviour, since I use the interwiki.py script in an autonomous mode. However, I use the bot from Finnish Wikipedia, and that is why the bot would be most useful in improving the linking between English and Finnish Wikipedia. Is this a problem? –Finlux (talk) 02:05, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Do you speak the other languages? — Werdna talk 02:07, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- No, I don't. I can read only English, Finnish, Swedish and a little German. With other interwiki links (apart from the obvious cases) I must rely on script's internal logic which in autonomous mode searches interwiki links from other language versions of the same page and adds the missing ones to fiwiki and enwiki if (and only if) there are no apparent problems. I suspect that this is the case with most users using interwiki.py when their bots are adding links to such languages that they are unfamiliar with. –Finlux (talk) 02:43, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay. On conferral, that's not an issue, so long as you update the script often (which you said you do). Approved.. — Werdna talk 02:52, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
