Operator: Hedwig in Washington (talk · contribs)
Time filed: 21:33, Tuesday August 23, 2011 (UTC)
Automatic or Manual:
- Automatic unsupervised: The bot makes edits automatically, which the operator does not constantly review
- Automatic supervised: The bot makes edits automatically, but the operator reviews them shortly afterwards
- Both will happen, probably #1 mostly (after the first edits ran smoothly).
- python (pywikipedaibot, interwiki.py - no changes made to code)
Source code available:
Function overview:
- on de-wiki AWB is used to correct spelling, wikify, and so on. (3,5k edits so far) On all other wikis the bot will do Interwiki corrections, mostly within categories, esp. Wikipedia multilingual coordination
Links to relevant discussions (where appropriate):
- none so far, other than request to check interwiki on de-bot-request. de:Wikipedia:Bots/Anfragen#Interwikilinks für Babel-Sprachvorlagen
Edit period(s):
- The plan is to let the bot run about once a month, in the beginning it might be more frequent.
Estimated number of pages affected:
- Since we have about 950 Babel-Templates on de, my guess would be about 100 pages. The other categories may sum up to another 300/500 until the end of the year.
Exclusion compliant (Y/N):
- Yep
Already has a bot flag (Y/N):
- Yes, on DE
Function details:
- Setting, deleting, testing Interwiki links
Discussion
[edit]- I'd like to make known, that I do have a good understanding what harm a bot can do and I will be very cautious not to get into a bot-war over interwikis. It's not about the number of edits I can make, for me it's the quality of the edits. I don't like to have a ton of complaints on my discussion. Thanks for consideration! :-) --Hedwig in Washington (TALK) 21:33, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- So on en.wikipedia you will only be doing interwiki linking? What parameters will you be running interwiki.py with? - Kingpin13 (talk) 21:54, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Yep, only on de.wikipedia other stuff (wikify, etc.) All other wikis only interwiki linking. Parameters as follows: -autonomous -quiet -catr That's it for the most part. For the warning file I'll remove -autonomous of course. Like I said, not looking for trouble! :-)) --Hedwig in Washington (TALK) 22:21, 23 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Okay, you mention in the details that you would be deleting interwiki links, would you actually be doing that? - Kingpin13 (talk) 02:41, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Well, yes and no. I think I can get by with updating/deleting those links by hand, running the bot manually. I forget to add -log to the parameters, sorry. --Hedwig in Washington (TALK) 15:22, 24 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

From function details. Are "Babel-Templates" the babel userboxes? What are the "other categories"? You also seem to be doing this task already without trial -- Special:Contributions/HiW-Bot. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 07:49, 27 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Yes. The Babel userboxes (should) have interwiki links. Many links are not set and before I add any boxes to the little Wikis, I want to have the linking in working order. It's a heck of a mess there. Other categories means random choice. Whenever I stumble upon something somewhere, I could use the bot to add interwikis. --Hedwig in Washington (TALK) 05:41, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Your bot is still running without approval. Please read WP:BOTPOL. "Whenever I stumble upon something somewhere", you need to be as specific as possible in a BRFA. Which namespaces will that be? — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 07:05, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Bot stopped. Namesspaces: Article, Templates, and Categories. Priority on maintaining Babel-Category. What I meant is, whenever I see missing Interwiki links, I'd like to be able to add those globally. Sorry for not being specific. Other categories I'd like to work on are cars, motorcycles, towns, and ships. That will keep the bot busy for weeks. --Hedwig in Washington (TALK) 07:25, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Approved. Edits look fine. Make sure you have read WP:INTERWIKIBOT. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 07:27, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]
