Automatic or Manual: Automatic supervised
Programming language(s): Python
Source code available: Standard Pywikipedia
Function overview: Updating Portal:United Kingdom

Edit period(s): One time run
Estimated number of pages affected: about 600
Exclusion compliant (Y/N): N/A
Already has a bot flag (Y/N): Y
Function details: I wish to update the randomly displayed features on Portal:United Kingdom using my bot. Briefly the bot will:
- Take a list of approximately 650 Featured Articles/Biographies relating to the UK which I have prepared manually
- Check the talk page of each article for whether it has appeared on the Main Page
- If so, copy the relevant blurb (e.g. Wikipedia:Today's featured article/May 7, 2011) into a numbered subpage of Portal:United Kingdom/Featured article or Portal:United Kingdom/Featured biography as appropriate
This will increase the number of featured articles in rotation on the UK portal. I may also want to perform other maintenance tasks on sections of the portal in future. All of these edits will be confined to subpages of Portal:United Kingdom. the wub "?!" 23:22, 11 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

[edit]While BRFAs cannot approve you for unspecified future tasks, those can probably be speedied. About current task, Approved for trial (5 edits). Please provide a link to the relevant contributions and/or diffs when the trial is complete. Let's see some sample diffs of what this does. — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 08:44, 12 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- Wouldn't it be easier to transclude the required "Wikipedia:Today's_featured_article/XXXX" articles or is that impractical? — HELLKNOWZ ▎TALK 14:53, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
- No, because those pages include the links to "Recently featured" articles and the standard TFA footer {{TFAfooter}}. These aren't relevant on the UK Portal, so the bot clips them off when copying over. the wub "?!" 15:27, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
