Wikipedia:GLAM/National Archives and Records Administration/Task list

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This project can use volunteers interested in a range of tasks, whether it is intensive tasks like research and article work, or less intensive tasks like tagging and categorizing. This is a cross-project effort taking place on Wikipedia, Wikisource, and Commons. If you have any special skills, such as programming, proficiency with templates, digital image expertise, or fluency with multiple languages, please note it when you sign up.

Less intensive tasks

[edit]
Wikipedia/article-related
  • Help recruit new members.
  • Tag and assess articles related to the National Archives' collection using {{WPNARA}}. "Related" articles include those documents held by the National Archives (e.g., Webster–Ashburton Treaty) as well as creators or subjects of documents (e.g., Louisiana Purchase), if the holdings of the National Archives have major significance for them in some way.
    • If possible, include the document's ARC Identifier (template parameter "ARC=") when tagging.
  • Compile a list of existing National Archives media for which high-quality scans should be obtained.
Commons/media-related
  • Use the pictures! Add new media to pages, on all projects, where appropriate
  • Files are being uploaded as TIFFs in most cases. Help convert these to JPEG (for still pictures), DjVu (for text), OGG (for audio), or OGV (for video). Remember to link the two versions using the "|Other versions=" parameter.
  • Move National Archives images from Wikipedia to Commons.
  • Help categorize new National Archives media topically according to Commons standards.
  • Identify and tag any existing low-quality duplicates of new high-quality material with {{superseded}} and replace the files on any projects where they are in use.
  • Find ARC identifiers for media which lack one and add it to the images using {{NARA-image}}.
