This is the 2023 weekly report on meetings, events, and contributions made.

It's a place for project volunteers to note down their contributions (remember to sign your name!) There will be prizes (donated by Westland District Library) for the most and best contributions in different areas (articles in each geographical location, Commons uploads, Wikidata etc.) Prize categories and winners will be decided by Mike at the end of October and no correspondence will be entered into!

Mon 11 – Sun 17 Sep

Welcome to the project! I've been setting up visits and field photography trips to Karamea, Fox Glacier, and Whataroa, and working through Whataroa South Westland: Centennial Report 1879–1979, an amazing bit of local history writing with lots of information about Whataroa and Okarito. Went through and replaced (almost) all of the wikidata coordinates from Cebuano wikipedia, as identified by Canley's script, with coordinates from the gazetteer or LINZ topo maps.Turnagra (talk) 08:36, 14 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Added a selection of Whites Aviation photos of Whataroa to the Commons category, and found a better image for the infobox and Wikidata item. Prosperosity created Wikidata items and Commons categories for a lot of Hokitika's public sculpture, and I uploaded a few dozen photos I had, made more categories, and improved the Wikidata. —Giantflightlessbirds (talk) 10:58, 15 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]

An expedition of Mike and two others (incl. User:Marshelec) travelled from Christchurch to Fox Glacier, where we're staying for three days to work on local content.
After a trip to Gillespies Beach, added 56 photos of the beach, the Miners' Tunnel Walk, Gillespies Beach itself, and the new viewpoint at Te Kopikopiko o te Waka. Created Gillespies Beach Gold Dredge (Q122918118) and Gillespies Beach Suction Dredge (Q122918149).
