An article that I created a few months ago, Vienna Document, was recently reviewed. The reviewer inserted a template stating the article contained bare URLs and so was subject to WP:Link rot. The template is

.

After reading the instructions on the reflink tool, I went to the article and clicked on the link to run the tool. The tool said that it did not make any corrections. Does that mean that the template was placed by the reviewer by mistake? Should I go ahead and remove the template? Would it be a good idea to discuss on the reviewer's talk page first? Robert McClenon (talk) 01:24, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

My suggestion is try to add as much information into the refs as possible using the reftoolbar. Then remove the notice.

The thing that needs to be asked is this - "if the link suddenly changes with no redirect and no easy way to find it, can I be certain that someone has as much information as possible so as to be able to find it again elsewhere?" In this case, usually author, date published, date accessed, organization publishing, etc. are all good things to include. ~Charmlet -talk- 01:27, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Adding a box with biographical summary

[edit]

While attempting to update the information on the article on Peter Herdic, it looks like I must have deleted the entire box except for his photograph, which may have been added back later. How do I restore the box and the information that was in it?Marysmls (talk) 02:50, 8 August 2013 (UTC)m[reply]

I restored it for you. I had to go into the "view history" tab, find the revision just before the infobox was removed, edit that version to copy the infobox, and then re-add it. Howicus (talk) 03:12, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

An article that I created, Ontario Genealogical Society, has been tagged as having a bad reference format. I don't see anything wrong, and a note on the talk page brought no response. The references look fine to me, better than a lot of article that I read. I checked the Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Dates and numbers, and the date format that I chose is an acceptable one. I would like to remove the template. Is there something I am missing? —Anne Delong (talk) 04:29, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nothing obvious, & no response on the talk page after all these months, so I've removed the template. - David Biddulph (talk) 06:41, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I guess you want an update of Riffa S.C.. I have confirmed your information and made the update.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 10:59, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

SEVENTEEN (band)

[edit]

I created a page for the band Seventeen but it got deleted? It is a band under Pledis Entertainment (Company that created After School, NU’EST, Hello Venus etc.) and it is quite popular (it has its own TV show etc.) The other groups under this company can have a wiki page why can't Seventeen? This page was deleted because "No explanation of significance". Also there is a chinese wiki page for this band so why can't I make an english page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by SmileBlueJay97 (talkcontribs) 12:10, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Chinese Wikipedia and English Wikipedia have different rules. English Wikipedia requires that an article must demonstrate its subject's notability. Being published under a label that also has notable artists does not itself confer notability. Incidentally, the Pledis Entertainment article itself deserves to be deleted. Maproom (talk) 14:39, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As per Maproom's comment, I have nominated Pledis Entertainment for deletion. If anyone can find secondary sources in the next week, the article might be worth fixing. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:19, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How to delete specific revision logs from a Wikipedia page ?

[edit]

How can I delete specific, few revision logs from a Wikipage created by me ? While creating a page for a living person, I made some mistakes while creating a page. I was new to Wikipedia and created many edits while updating information about the living person. Hence i want to delete the earlier revisions, call it draft edit revisions? is there any particular e-mail address where I send my request and the necessary details ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Satish Kapoor (talkcontribs) 12:14, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

At the top right of the page press "revision history" then find your edit and press "undo". This should undo your previous edits. SmileBlueJay97 (talk) 12:20, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Administrators have the ability to delete revisions but the targets generally need to meet the criteria for redaction. You can request revisions deletion from an administrator in Category:Wikipedia administrators willing to handle RevisionDelete requests.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 12:26, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(Triple edit conflict) See Wikipedia:Requests for oversight. I cannot say whether your case satisfies the conditions. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:28, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

As you suggested, -- at the top right of the page press "revision history" then find your edit and press "undo" -- will it delete the revision completely from the revision history? Will it affect / change the current edits on that page by other contributors (which is updated and correct) ? I only want to delete my draft edits / revisions. Please help !! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Satish Kapoor (talkcontribs) 12:25, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

"undo" doesn't remove anything from the page history. PrimeHunter (talk) 12:30, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
To clarify what PrimeHunter said, "undo" will add a further revision to the page, reversing the edit you wanted to undo. The revision history will show the original edit and then a further edit for the reversal. In order to remove edits from the revision history, you would need to satisfy the strict requirements of WP:REVDEL or of WP:Oversight. - David Biddulph (talk) 12:41, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Paul thirwell is currently stated as the assistant manger at Carlisle, this is false information.

Please could you rectify this error. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.125.208.77 (talk) 14:37, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I believe the OP is referring to Paul Thirlwell. I don't know anything about English football though, so I'm probably not the best person to make corrections. Dismas|(talk) 21:20, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I've removed it per this page on the club's website [2]. CaptRik (talk) 12:01, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 6 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. how do I close down my page for good?

[edit]

I have had quite enough and want to leave wikipedia. How do I close the page and my data? Tous les deux DUO 54 (talk) 16:09, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I assume you refer to The Haworth Pottery (1971-88) West Yorkshire. If you no longer wish to work on this page, you need do nothing further. Other Wikipedians will look after it now. Thank you for your contributions! Arthur goes shopping (talk) 16:15, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to leave Wikipedia altogether, you could just blank your user talk page and put Template:Retired on it. Your editing history has to stay accessible, however, and any contributions you made will still show up in page histories. Howicus (talk) 16:18, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you want to cease editing here and abandon your account, that's called exercising your "right to vanish". See the article Wikipedia:Courtesy vanishing for instructions on how to do so. Maged khoury

[edit]

Dear Sirs, The article about maged khoury posted by arab11112 is not true and is affecting me personally. My name is maged khoury and i was born on he same year so if possible kindly remove the article and any trace of my name on wikipedia. Awaiting your reply and action . regards. Maged khoury — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.201.233.229 (talk) 20:26, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia has no article titled Maged khoury. User:Arab11112 has created an article in his personal sandbox, titled Maged El-Khoury. As it stands, it is badly written and unreferenced, and so would not be accepted as a Wikipedia article. But that is no reason to delete it from his sandbox. However, I suspect that it is also libellous, which I believe is grounds to delete it. I hope a more experienced editor can advise. Maproom (talk) 21:08, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have now reported this at Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons/Noticeboard. I guess the experts there will know what to do. Maproom (talk) 21:26, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The page has now been blanked. Maproom (talk) 06:29, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I recently came across the article Bury Jack, about a recently[1] invented card game. It is clearly not notable. I have read the conditions for speedy deletion, and I don't think any of them applies. The closest I can find to an appropriate tag is {{No sources}}; but if I use this, it will advise the article's creator to find references, which would be absurd and a waste of his time (and hypocritical of me, when I know it would be asking the impossible). What is the best way to handle this? Maproom (talk) 21:20, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

  1. ^ "on the 8th of September 2013", according to the article
I wonder where those other two references came from. I guess there's some way to suppress any lurking references before starting a new section. Maproom (talk) 21:23, 8 August 2013 (UTC) [reply]
I have deleted under WP:IAR (and by doing so implicitly declined the invalid {{db-hoax}} that someone had tagged it with). Of course, this could have been taken to articles for deletion but I think most new pages patrollers would prod an entry like this almost always before taking to AfD, because a discussion on this would indeed be a waste of time. There's also a cadre of editors who when they see a hopeless entry like this, will tag it with an invalid CSD tag, and that is not uncommonly acted upon. I have always argued, though, that this is the wrong way. It is an implicit use of IAR in the end, but a deceptive one. So if you come across a WP:NFT entry as blatant at this one, you could simply tag with {{db|because...}}; using that form that allows you to write whatever you'd like, and you can explicitly invoke IAR with something not unlike my speedy rationale you can see in the deletion log entry I linked. It may be declined but it's better than applying an invalid criterion. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:01, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Which page are you referring to? I couldn't find any statement about something called monkeys auctions here in Wikipedia. We are an encyclopedia with millions of articles. Are you sure you are in the right place? PrimeHunter (talk) 23:32, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I assume you are referring to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Monkeys Auctions? Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia, not a platform to provide free advertising for obscure websites for action businesses in Indianola. To merit an article, your business would have to meet the Wikipedia:Notability (organizations) criteria - which it quite obviously doesn't. AndyTheGrump (talk) 23:38, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The England cricket team page

[edit]

Hello,

I believe someone should take a look at the England Cricket teams page, as following recent controversy within the game (which England vehemently deny) the article accuses the team of cheating by 'using tape on their bats to stop hot spot technology from working'

This is obviously unproven and has more than likely been edited by and Australian more than a little upset about his or her nation losing the recent Ashes series to England (Poor Aussies, they must be getting used to it by now?)

Anyway, someone needs to edit it and I'm not sure how. Thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.172.235.252 (talk) 23:31, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I tried to remove it but you beat me to it. It was added by an IP address in India. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:37, 8 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
From current/recent UK newspaper articles I have read (in dead-tree form, so no links to hand), it is true that there have been widely reported allegations of some England players using silicone tape or vaseline on the edges of their bats to foil Hot-Spot. It would probably be reasonable to retain the existence of the allegations, together with their denial by the individuals and bodies involved. (FWIW, being a loyal English-resident Englishman I myself give them no credence :-) .) {The poster formerly known as 87.81.2301.95} 212.95.237.92 (talk) 12:43, 9 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
