[edit]Need advice on "edit war"
[edit]I appear to be in an posisble edit war, which I did not intend. There have been several requests at Talk:Pedophilia for page editing, each of which I have declined due to needing consensus before implementing. The requesting user does not start any discussion, they just keep posting similar requests repeatedly. I didn't notice until today that the previous requests were all closed by me. It also appearently went to the dispute resolution board, which I was not notified of. I need advice. Should I just stop answering the requests on this page? NE AZ communities
[edit]There is a factual problem with your info. "It is the location of several Indian reservations including all of the Zuni Indian Reservation and most parts of the Hopi Reservation." Part of the Zuni Reservation is in McKinley County and Cibola County, NM. All of the Hopi Reservation is in NE AZ. I know; because, I live in this area. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.57.249.50 (talk) 05:08, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- @70.57.249.50: Hi, I'm guessing that you are referring to this article? It seems that you object to the use of the word "all" in "all of the Zuni Indian Reservation"? Would "much" or "sections of the Zuni Indian Reservation" be an effective replacement? If you have a correction to make, feel free to be bold and make the change yourself. It is preferable that you support your edit with a reliable source, as Wikipedia shuns original research (personal knowledge, observations, etc). If you're not comfortable making the edit yourself, you can post an edit request on the article's talk page. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:53, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
Redirect page
[edit]Hello. Just wanted to bring up a page that redirects to itself..? I am not sure but I think that's what is happening. I guess there is a page with that name on the Chile's WP and the person who made the redirect probably was trying to redirect there..? If someone can figure out what exactly is happening and try to fix this it would be great. I don't know if the page has to be deleted completely or change the redirect that's why I am writing about it here. The page is Modern Family (Chile). Thanks. TeamGale 07:22, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Done I have deleted the page under WP:CSD#G8 (A3 would also have applied). There never was never any content except the self-redirect there. I have notified the editor who created that page. I normally use tag&bag but this is a pure technical deletion, so i just did it. Thanks for letting us know. DES (talk) 08:18, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- It has now been deleted as a page that redirects to itself. --Mdann52talk to me! 08:20, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- You are welcome and thanks for taking care of it. TeamGale 09:29, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
How to add a new topic in the Wikipedia?
[edit]How can I add a new topic in Wikipedia? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 169.252.4.21 (talk) 07:30, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- First search carefully to see if the topic is already here under a different name. If it is not, then consider carefully if the subject is notable, and is verifiable through independent, published reliable sources. If it is, you can use the Articles for Creation process to get a draft reviewed and possibly accepted into Wikipedia. Or you can register an account and simply create an article, but using the AFC process is often a better way for relatively new editors here. DES (talk) 08:05, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
Cite fix request
[edit]I can't seem to get the Miami Herald citation at Walter Poenisch to look correct (there's a large space between "Splash" and "Miami Herald"). Please fix if possible. Thanks. -- Jreferee (talk) 09:43, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- I tweaked the reflist template. See if it's displaying correctly for you now. Dismas|(talk) 09:50, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- The reflist template! I didn't think of that. I kept revising the reference itself without success. Thanks! It is displaying fine now. -- Jreferee (talk) 09:56, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
Hot Cat - making it work
[edit]Just wondering if there was a trouble-shooting guide to make WP:HotCat work. It seems to come and go depending on a few factors but appears not to be a universal issue. Hack (talk) 11:08, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- I assume you have enabled HotCat in your preferences but despite that you sometimes cannot use that, am I understanding this correctly? -- Toshio Yamaguchi 11:17, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah. I've tried it in a couple of different browsers, cleared the cache, unchecked and checked HotCat in my preferences - but no luck. Hack (talk) 11:35, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Well, it works for me (see for example this test in my sandbox). Do you see the symbols (++) and (−) (±) at the bottom of an article or are they not present at all? -- Toshio Yamaguchi 11:52, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yeah. I've tried it in a couple of different browsers, cleared the cache, unchecked and checked HotCat in my preferences - but no luck. Hack (talk) 11:35, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Do you have JavaScript enabled in your browser settings? -- Toshio Yamaguchi 12:04, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Yes, I do. Just wondering if there were any known issues with particular gadgets or scripts clashing. Hack (talk) 13:19, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Do you have JavaScript enabled in your browser settings? -- Toshio Yamaguchi 12:04, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Does the appearance and disappearance coincide with a change of the namespace the page is located in? Note for example that HotCat is not enabled in template namespace. Other than that, I fear I have no idea what the problem could be. -- Toshio Yamaguchi 13:41, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Just trying to use it in mainspace. Tried it in three different browsers. It's got to be something to do with my settings. Hack (talk) 17:17, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

- Mr. Kelmendi, according to the article Jeton Kelmendi, you are among other things a translator. Could we therefore please request you to translate the above, preferably into English, but Italian, French or German might do. Few editors here on English Wikipedia are likely to understand Albanian. Maproom (talk) 13:13, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Esperanto will also do. --Orange Mike | Talk 13:40, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- I don't understand much Albanian, but I see "ne wikipedia shqipe" (in Albanian Wikipedia) in the text, but I don't see a mention of anglisht at all. I suspect therefore that you are asking a question about sq.wikipedia. If that is so, you should know that each language Wikipedia is a separate project with its own rules and community. This is the English Wikipedia, and we cannot help you with any question or problem on Albanian Wikipedia. Më vjen keq. --ColinFine (talk) 19:43, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
Archiving
[edit]When archiving a talk page, must I archive absolutely everything or can I then bring any current discussions back to the live page? Help:Archiving a talk page#Continuing discussions says only that there is ongoing work on this issue. My case in point is Talk:Birmingham New Street railway station which is quite long and a good 95% of the material is over two years old. Also that Help page states that talk pages can be archived when they reach about 75KB, but I can't find any indication of how many KB any talk page has got to. How can you tell?--Shantavira|feed me 14:01, 7 October 2013 (UTC)

exoplanation of out of body and near death experiences
[edit]Extended content
|

Cannot understand how to submit an article. will this work? Possible Explanation of “Out of Body” and “Near death” Experiences Carl Lahser In 1965 I was in a serious automobile accident out in the country about thirty miles from the nearest large hospital. I was in and out of consciousness several times and then had what I thought, at the time, was a “near death’ or “out of body” experience. I seemed to be flying along outside the ambulance seeing fluorescent green trees against a black sky. A disembodied voice said they would stop at the hospital and then go on to the morgue. I wondered which stop was for me. Then I woke up in the emergency room having my clothes cut off. I had been curious about this incident for years. I recently had my annual eye examination and the doctor asked if I had any problem sleeping. I told him I had begun using a sleeping mask. My wife wanted to read in bed and the light bothered me. The doctor explained this was lagophthalmos, a common problem of old age caused by a malfunction of the facial nerve or when the eyelids lose muscle tension. This causes incomplete blinking causing dry eyes and relaxing of the eyelids during sleep allowing light to enter the eyes. For women past 40 there is a common dysfunction of the meibomian glands called blepharitis. It causes an inflammation of the eyelids and dry eyes. It occurred to me that this was probably the cause of my “out of body” vision being semiconscious and the eyelids opening slightly and looking out of the ambulance racing through the night through the East Texas piney woods. This might also be the explanation of other similar visions of people “dying” in hospitals on the operating table and in hospital halls and rooms seeing a bright light or seeing their body from outside the body. There are definitely bright lights and reflecting surfaces in hospitals as well as voices of visitors and medical staff talking. This vision through relaxed eyelids and sounds or voices would certainly make an impression on a semiconscious mind. An extension of this thinking might explain weird dreams, nightmares, and night terrors as a result of this relaxed eyelid condition. Passing automobile headlights flashing through bedroom windows. Nightlights casting strange shadows or illuminating objects in the room from unusual angles. Lights being projected through pin holes like a pinhole camera. Numbers on a digital clock or electrical pilot lights seen through temporarily slightly open eyes could register on the subconscious. Lights seeming to move caused by erratic eye movement (nystagmus or REM sleep). This might be scary or blend into the existing dream state. Anyway I have satisfied myself that I was not outside my body or near death and that what I saw was real. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Eumops 37 (talk • contribs) 16:19, 7 October 2013 (UTC) |

How to enable feedback?
[edit]How can I enable feedback on an article please? There is no "Request feedback" option in the editing toolbox that I can see. Jzlcdh (talk) 17:18, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- @Jzlcdh: Hi, it would be helpful to know which article you are referring to. I'm looking at the last few articles you've edited, and I see Enable Feedback in the toolbox on all of them. Turkey, Mert River, Samsun, Canik Başarı University, Wind power in Turkey and Energy policy of Turkey all seem to have links to Enable Feedback. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 20:42, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
The Samsun page. I can see the link now. It definitely was not there before. Thanks. Jzlcdh (talk) 10:10, 8 October 2013 (UTC)

- @115.242.248.124: Hello, that's not likely to occur, as Wikipedia is not censored, and that article presents an overview of a series of notable cultural and historical events related to, interestingly enough, censorship. The best way to avoid being offended is to avoid the article. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 17:32, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Cyphoidbomb is right. However I would like to thank you for the polite tone of your request. Wikipedia has received much more aggressive complaints about this page. Maproom (talk) 20:49, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
Copyright of image
[edit]I was wondering about an image I have been trying to get the copyright sorted for if anything is actually getting done about it since I got the relevant person to e-mail the appropriate info and it doesn't seem to have had anything done about it yet and I am sure the email was sent about a week ago now. I apologize if this is the wrong place to put this query i was unsure where to ask.
Rachend (talk) 19:05, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Who did you email? Samwalton9 (talk) 19:46, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
The e-mail was sent through to the wikimedia permissions e-mail or at least that is the one i asked the copyright owner to e-mail to.
Rachend (talk) 21:07, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- Was it File:Mediator Mike Gaston.jpg or File:Singing Mike Gaston.jpg? The former was deleted for lack of permission - see here) and the latter has received and recorded the permissions and is now a candidate for being copied to Commons so it can be more widely used. - Karenjc (talk) 22:59, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
It is File:Mediator Mike Gaston.jpg I am referring to, File:Singing Mike Gaston.jpg had been deleted at the same time but reinstated once the email had been received but this does not seem to have happened with the other and I am trying to find out why or if there is more needs to be done to sort this out.
Rachend (talk) 06:48, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
- You'll probably have more success if you ask about this at the OTRS noticeboard. Make sure you specify the name of the deleted image and approximately when the permission was sent. - Karenjc (talk) 07:38, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, had no idea of the correct place to ask.

How do i find pages that need spelling/grammar fixes?
[edit]when i first made this account, it came up with a little menu listing various options, one of which was to fix the spelling/grammar of an article (i hate bad grammar and want to help rid the world of a bit more of it).I cannot seem to be able to find this menu anywhere now. any ideas on where i can find it? - Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a journal, and it has a specific policy AGAINST publishing original research. Instead it reports what has already been reliably published elsewhere. DES (talk) 22:00, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
Blue is the Warmest Color
[edit]Hello,
I am from the company releasing the film Blue is the Warmest Color in the US and while trying to add the film's US release date of October 25, 2013, I messed up the formatting of the html.
Could someone review and clean it up and fix it?

Sorry about this.
Thanks,

- That seems to be fine, I've moved the France-specific reference to the French release date but other than that it looks ok! Samwalton9 (talk) 22:26, 7 October 2013 (UTC)
- As it turns out I was wrong about the specific usage of release date in that template so the information has been removed from the Infobox. It can, however, still found in the article body. For info on why it was removed from the Infobox see WP:FILMRELEASE. Samwalton9 (talk) 08:24, 8 October 2013 (UTC)
