English Rugby League players

[edit]

Dear Sir, I refer to the above subject. I wish to have my name Kenneth Parratt added to the list of players. I played for the BATLEY RUGBY LEAGUE CLUB both first and second teams during the 1960s. A check with the now BATLEY BULLDOGS with the club records should prove this to be true and correct.

Yours sincerely Ken Parratt — Preceding unsigned comment added by 58.168.114.14 (talk) 02:29, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find a specific List of English Rugby League Players, although there are various lists of Rugby League players by team, national representation and so on. We do have a Category:English rugby league players, but that is just a way of categorising existing articles about individual players - you can't add anyone to it who doesn't have an article. Unless there is actually an article about you, there isn't really anywhere to add your name. WP:RLN explains the criteria governing whether or not a Rugby League player is considered eligible for an article. - Karenjc (talk) 18:56, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

LASCAR WAR MEMORIAL,KOLKATA

[edit]

I visited this memorial & was impressed with the surrounding. My cogratulations to the Indian Navy for this contribution to this beautiful city.I feel the Wikipedia needs to have the original photo of the memorial when built by Mr Keir.I also feel the photes of Mr Keir & Commodore Mohanti who located this lost monument should be included in this article in Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.176.10.20 (talk) 12:10, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

(This is about the article Lascar War Memorial.) If you, or anyone else, can provide such photographs, with a copyright status that allows them to be used on Wikipedia, I expect that someone will add them to the article. Maproom (talk) 19:35, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

please correct my father's name

[edit]

my father's name is Charles Harris, husband of my mother, Audrey Harris. i am the michael harris who is the subject of the wikipedia entry — Preceding unsigned comment added by 142.177.66.64 (talk) 12:37, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A starting point would be to tell us which of the 23 people listed at Michael Harris you are. If you have a reference to a published reliable source (and your own personal knowledge doesn't count as a reliable source because it is not verifiable), then the information can be corrected; otherwise if the information in the article doesn't have a source it can be removed. - David Biddulph (talk) 12:43, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I'm going to guess Michael Harris (journalist), as that lists a mother called Audrey. That whole article is largely unsourced and should probably be put up for deletion. Rojomoke (talk) 14:55, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I SEARCHED "WHAT DOES EXPATRIATE MEAN"

[edit]

U.S. citizens living abroad[edit source | editbeta]During the Vietnam War about 100,000 American men went abroad to avoid the draft, 90% of them going to Canada.[14] There are currently an estimated 6 million Americans living outside the United States.[15] The US is the only industrialized country to tax citizens on income earned abroad, as evident in the listing under International taxation, even when those citizens are taxed by their countries of residence, though US citizens are allowed to exclude their first $91,400. Additionally, a new 2010 US law known as FATCA requires expatriates to report any foreign bank accounts exceeding $50,000, with heavy fines for noncompliance.[16] American expatriates have also frequently been denied service at banks and other institutions in their countries of residence, as the US government requires other nations to abide by its banking and financial laws when dealing with its citizens. As a result, hundreds of US expatriates renounce their US citizenship every year.[17][18]

IN THE ABOVE PARAGRAPH, IT STATES THAT THE U.S. IS THE ONLY INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRY TO TAX CITIZENS ON INCOME EARNED ABROAD.

THIS STATEMENT IS INCORRECT, IN CANADA, ALL CANADIANS MUST REPORT THEIR WORLD WIDE INCOME, AND THE ONLY TAX RELIEF THEY RECEIVE IS IF THERE IS A TAX TREATY WITH A NATION WHERE THEY EARNED INCOME OUTSIDE OF CANADA.

HOPE THIS HELPS. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.47.26.160 (talk) 13:09, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is probably more suitable for the article's talk page. However, please note that your use of capitals is discouraged, as it infers shouting. Thanks!  drewmunn  talk  13:53, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) The correct place to take this, is to Talk:Expatriate. After a brief look, I can see one problem - the U.S. citizens living abroad section quoted above seems to use Wikipedia itself as a reference. However, the reference used in the International taxation article is now a dead link. I've flagged that, but someone with more time should investigate thoroughly. Updating company logo on wikipedia page

[edit]

I'm trying to update the logo being shown on the page: Principles for Responsible Investment

However, it's not such a simple task!

Can anyone help me by uploading the new logo? I'm happy to provide it, or upload it, or anything! But I can't do it on my own, Wikipedia refuses to allow me to do so! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pricomms (talkcontribs) 13:54, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can request that the file be uploaded at WP:FFU.--ukexpat (talk) 16:11, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Parse error in math notation

[edit]

There is a parse error in the mathematics in the complex number section of Rotation (mathematics). Does anyone here feel up to looking at the code and trying to fix it? It was introduced in this diff when an editor tried to change the sign. RJFJR (talk) 14:48, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Someone fixed it. Thank you. RJFJR (talk) 18:48, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Facebook page

[edit]

I would like to know how to remove a facebook page which appears to have been automatically generated by wikipedia as it is causing confusion with people trying to find the correct page for that organization - I am a representative of that organization. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 185.12.202.84 (talk) 15:40, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia does not generate Facebook pages. I think a Google search can sometimes lead to a Facebook page, with an image taken from Wikipedia shown alongside the link. And it is sometimes the wrong picture taken from Wikiepdia. This is because of the way Google operates, there is little that we here at WIkipedia can do about it.
It might help us to try to answer your question if you told us
  1. The name of your organization
  2. The URL at which you see the confusing page.
Maproom (talk) 15:54, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It's probably a Facebook Community Page. Facebook Community Pages are created by Facebook users. They often use Wikipedia content on these pages, because it is free for anyone to reuse. Wikipedia doesn't make these pages, as Maproom said, and it has absolutely no control over them. You need to talk to Facebook about this, not Wikipedia. It's not the best source, but you may find this article useful. It's actually a really good explanation of what these pages are, and why they may be unpopular with organisations like yours. - Karenjc (talk) 18:35, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki Page - Posting Questions and Answers

[edit]

Can you post questions and answers on a Wiki Page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.223.230.201 (talk) 16:18, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you mean "FAQ" (frequently asked questions), no. That would fall under Wikipedia is not an advertiser nor a company website. ~Charmlet -talk- 16:37, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) It depends which Wiki you are talking about, but if you mean Wikipedia then yes there are a number of pages for questions and answers. As you have discovered, this is one, if your question refers to editing Wikipedia. Various others, for varying purposes, are linked from Wikipedia:Questions. - David Biddulph (talk) 16:43, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to put on my Wiki Page for my company an interactive box which allows the developers within my company to ask technical questions and I could answer questions, which all the developers can see the questions and answers. Because many of them may have the same questions. The Wiki Page at the bottom says it is powered by mediawiki — Preceding unsigned comment added by 134.223.230.201 (talk) 16:57, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a page on Wikipedia, you may not do that. If it is your own Wiki, we can't help you - try reading at http://mediawiki.org ~Charmlet -talk- 16:59, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

References Template

[edit]

I received a cite error message that references will not show unless I use a references template. I thought I had one, but am new to editing, and not sure how to proceed. I listed all references, and put line citings within article. How to proceed to get edited version on wikipedia? Thanks!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Singdance10 (talkcontribs) 16:40, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

If you are talking about this version of Ed Polcer, then your starting point is to click on the link provided in the error message, which says "see the help page". It will tell you that you need a {{reflist}} template in the references section. You do, however, also need to read WP:Referencing for beginners, which was a link provided in one of the messages on your user talk page. - David Biddulph (talk) 16:54, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

orphan page- "Wayne Elsey"

[edit]

Wayne Elsey (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) Hello, I am trying to edit the wiki page "Wayne Elsey" to fix it from being an orphan page. I have read help pages on it, but still am confused on what to do. Do I need to search the internet for things related, and then source them on his page? thanks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Erika anderson (talkcontribs) 18:13, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

An "orphan" is an article without incoming links from other Wikipedia articles, see WP:ORPHAN.--ukexpat (talk) 18:41, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Replacing the existing content (living person) with the subject's official biography

[edit]

If the existing content is incomplete, can it be replaced by the person's official (authored) biography? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.241.132.72 (talk) 20:05, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There are many potential problems with that approach. First, without licensing, it would be a Copyright violation. Assuming you could overcome that, there is going to be really big concern that the official biography may not reflect a Neutral Point of View. Normal concerns about WP:Reliable Sources, and WP:Notability would apply, as well as the need to make sure it was written in an approriate encyclopedic tone, and went into only the depth you would expect from an encyclopedic coverage of the subject. All in all, I would strongly suggest that in almost all cases the more productive approach would be to use normal editing to expand the article in your own words, rather then opening the can of worms that trying to replace it with the official biography would be. Monty845 20:17, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Furthermore, even if you did manage to replace the existing content with some kind of "official" text (almost impossible, as Monty845 has explained), that text would still be subject to future changes and additions by any user prepeared to cite reliable sources for their edits. Nobody can control the content of an article. - Karenjc (talk) 17:26, 21 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Onam

[edit]

Hello Wikepedia,

This is regarding the article 'Onam'. Onam It states that "Onam (Malayalam: ഓണം) is a Hindu festival celebrated by the people of Kerala, India". This is totally incorrect.

I have a serious concern that this article is written without a proper knowledge of the festival Onam or about Kerala's cultural background. Onam is not a festival of Hindus only. All religions and all groups celebrate this festival and it is a total injustice to the the great festival and the harmonious people of Kerala to add a religious color to it. While I understand that this was written by a volunteer but this needs correction. Please correct it. Also, this page would need to be much more colorful.

The following link needs an update as well. Category:Hindu festivals

Thanks Dinesh — Preceding unsigned comment added by 204.194.141.30 (talk) 20:41, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This has already been requested at Talk:Onam. You need to get consensus on this change and provide reliable sources that support the changes you are requesting. RudolfRed (talk) 21:16, 20 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
