[edit]Hymn tunes
[edit]Do we italicize hymn tunes? e.g. Sine nomine, Diademata, Dix, Down Ampney. --71.178.50.222 (talk) 02:01, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- the Manual of Style is here Wikipedia:MOSTITLES#Italics. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 03:08, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, Red. I looked there and it wasn't very helpful. It doesn't mention hymns or hymn tunes at all. --71.178.50.222 (talk) 19:39, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
I would have thought that hymn tunes would fit as "Works of art and artifice". --David Biddulph (talk) 19:47, 15 January 2014 (UTC)- err, actually I think I was wrong, because right below that section at Wikipedia:MOSTITLES#Quotation_marks it says that we do not ital, but use quotes for "Songs and singles" so if it is a song rather than an orchestral work, probably quotes and not ital. there is Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(music) and probably more subject matter experts at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Music. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 19:59, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- You probably were not wrong; I was just hoping for something very specific. If we say a hymn tune is a "song", then it's not italicized (per MOSTITLES, as you point out), it's just put in quote marks. Thank you. I will follow up on your other suggestions, too. (You can mark this one SOLVED). --71.178.50.222 (talk) 21:22, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Scott Davie (pianist)
[edit]Hi there I've just had an email from HasteurBot about the article Scott Davie (pianist) it was assessed as C-Class and HasteurBot has asked me to edit the article and improve it. I'm not sure what is required, could you give me any suggestions on how I can best improve the article. It would be a shame to delete the page as the pianist is very worthy of inclusion
Thanks Fastclick (talk) 02:12, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- The notice you received from h was about the Articles for creation article you created, Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Scott Davie (Pianist), not about Scott Davie (pianist). Scott Davie (pianist) is not up for deletion. GB fan 02:17, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- (e/c) A quick look showed that there are at least two reviews from nationally prominent media sources and so chances of "deletion" are pretty close to nil, so I wouldn't worry about that.
- However, Wikipedia is a work in progress, and improvements are almost always possible. Adding additional content from reliably published sources, taking and releasing a picture to illustrate the article (or finding an image that is already appropriately licensed , see WP:COPYRIGHT), tuning up the prose, etc. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 02:23, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Phew Thanks for the explanation, I will endeavour to continually update and add to the article. Fastclick (talk) 03:37, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
education
[edit]How can get my refund at the college, whereby I paid for two year but I don't want to continue for another year and I haven't registered for the. Second year? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 93.186.30.116 (talk) 06:09, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, and welcome to the Wikipedia help desk. The help desk is a place to ask questions about how to use Wikipedia, not general questions related to other things. For general questions, you can ask to see if anyone knows over at Wikipedia's reference desk. However, your question is very generalized and the answer most likely differs between colleges. I recommend looking into your college's resources, or talking to your college's administration about the process. Each college's policies are different and the process is most likely unique in your case. Hope this helps, ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 06:31, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

- Please do your own homework.
- Welcome to Wikipedia. Your question appears to be a homework question. I apologize if this is a misinterpretation, but it is our aim here not to do people's homework for them, but to merely aid them in doing it themselves. Letting someone else do your homework does not help you learn nearly as much as doing it yourself. Please attempt to solve the problem or answer the question yourself first. If you need help with a specific part of your homework, feel free to tell us where you are stuck and ask for help. If you need help grasping the concept of a problem, by all means let us know. - Done--Jeffrd10 (talk) 13:43, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Not done I have reverted this change as it contradicts the cited source. The original request was here when User:Karenjc stated:-
"The stats for your time at Altrincham are cited to Soccerbase. Can you point us at a published source to confirm the change you want us to make?"
As Soccerbase is a reliable source we would need another reliable source we can cite, which supports your statement. Arjayay (talk) 13:50, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- My bad should have cited my sources better and Don't no if the APPS and Gls are for the season or over all career this source seem to valadate my clame but I might have mest up reading the chat. so Lets keep the artical at where it is at Until "Leroy" can give us a valid source to back up his claim.--Jeffrd10 (talk) 14:18, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- That link doesn't work for me, unfortunately. It seems to lead to Altrincham FC's official site archive but I can't reach it via your link or other routes. By "chat" do you mean it's a forum or message board of some kind? If so, we can't use it as a source. Unfortunately it looks like the OP is editing from a dynamic IP, so a talkback pointing him at this discussion is unlikely to be any more successful than the one I left for him last time. He sounds sincere and Soccerbase could be wrong, but without a reliable source we cannot make the change. -Karenjc (talk) 21:00, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

Disclaimer at the top of an article
[edit]I have heavily edited an article (Charles Rose (architect)) that stated: This article contains wording that promotes the subject in a subjective manner without imparting real information. Please remove or replace such wording and instead of making proclamations about a subject's importance, use facts and attribution to demonstrate that importance. (October 2011)
Now that the article contains verifiable factual information only, how does one request the article be reviewed and the disclaimer removed? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Margauxfischer (talk • contribs) 15:43, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- That tag is added because of the {{peacock|date=October 2011}} template at the top of the page, and anyone can remove this if they think the issues are fixed :) Samwalton9 (talk) 15:50, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

{{peacock|date=October 2011}}
. If you are confident that you have fixed the issue, you can simply remove that from the article. No special review is required. DES (talk) 15:52, 15 January 2014 (UTC)- Having just been there to edit the article, I wouldnt suggest removing the tag just yet. It still reads as an advertorial and not an encyclopedia article.
- Pretty much a complete re-write is still needed. I would suggest presenting the information in a chronological order: In 19XX he did Y. The reaction was Z (source to third party coverage of the reaction). Later that year he received Z award for Project Q (source to third party coverage of the award). He began teaching at University in 20XX and was named Chair of Blah in 20XX. (source that verifies the event) The AAA Building completed in 20XX was ridiculed for being "quote". (source of the quote) etc.
- You will need to include ALL points of view and not just the glowing ones.-- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 16:07, 15 January 2014 (UTC)

how to live happy
[edit]i want tips to be live happy in my life rather being disturbed i dont know my expiry date as it is not been visible to any one but till then i want to be happy122.168.255.160 (talk) 16:33, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 6 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. DES (talk) 16:34, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- You might want to start with our article on happiness and follow some of the many links from there.--Shantavira|feed me 17:24, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
Wikipedia is not a valid source for medical advice or emotional care. You should see your doctor or mental health professional. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 17:43, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- I don't think 122 is looking for medical advice. The question could well be asked by any normal healthy human – though it is unlikely to get a useful answer. Maproom (talk) 21:11, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Here are five scientific reasons your idea of happiness is wrong. That's the article presuming you're wrong, not me. Or just check out nine animals that are just lazy combinations of other animals. Cheered me up, once! InedibleHulk (talk) 22:22, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
Maurice O Driscoll ex football player in league of ireland
[edit]Hi Wikipedia
I am wondering why my details have been deleted even from league of ireland players list? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 79.97.190.142 (talk) 23:03, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hi, I'm not sure what list you're referring to. Maybe this category? In order for someone to be added to a category, there must be an article written about them. Although I'm unclear if your name is Maurice O'Driscoll, or Maurice O. Driscoll, there doesn't appear to be an article about either of you. I do see a reference to "Maurice O'Driscoll" here, but as you will notice, the name redlinks, which means there is no article. Anyhow, the more information you can provide about what list you are referring to, what years you played, etc., will be helpful for anyone who might come around to help. Cyphoidbomb (talk) 23:30, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Presumably this Maurice O'Driscoll. I can't find anywhere on WP where it was removed. (Not Category:League of Ireland players which lists 1,371 players having pages, but not Maurice O'Driscoll.) ~E:71.20.250.51 (talk) 23:45, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- Further research suggests that the article Maurice O'Driscoll had an article circa 2009, but there were some problematic contributions from banned editors. The article was eventually deleted October 31, 2013 by @GiantSnowman: for "Expired PROD, concern was: Fails WP:GNG and WP:NFOOTY. Has not played first-team football in a fully professional league or received significant media coverage." So if the gent's article was removed, so might have been his spot in the category. User pages
[edit]How do we delete messages on our User page? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anakin the Great (talk • contribs) 23:45, 15 January 2014 (UTC)
- you click the "edit" button on top or on the section header, select the content on your talk page, blank by your favorite method, and save.
- (Note that you are free to blank almost any comment, but you are not free to selectively edit another users content, or edit content that you had previously made in a way that misrepresents the conversation. see WP:TPG) -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 00:07, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
- also note that in general it is better to WP:ARCHIVE discussions rather than blanking. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 00:09, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
- ... and note also that if you delete from your user talk page a warning for your vandalism, this is taken as an acknowledgement that you have read the warning. --David Biddulph (talk) 00:13, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
- Hello, Anakin the Great. I apologise if I'm misinterpreting, but I'm concerned about your reference to our User page. Are there several people sharing that account? If so, please note that it is contrary to Wikipedia rules to share accounts (see WP:ROLE). Please create an individual account for each person. --ColinFine (talk) 16:15, 16 January 2014 (UTC)
