[edit]A question, if I may, about user pages...
[edit]Hello there. I am not new to Wikipedia, but I'm new to editing, and I hope to get better at it. Before I start working for the benefit of other pages, though, I need to fix my own first, which brings me to my question. There is a certain position in which I would like to place a couple of userboxes on my user page. I'm sure there is a page with information about the codes necessary to do so, but where would that be? Thank you. GeekInItsPurestForm (talk) 00:31, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- @GeekInItsPurestForm: Hey GeekInItsPurestForm. A general place to explore is Wikipedia:Userboxes and especially its subsection at Grouping userboxes. See also the documentation for the template {{Userboxtop}}, and you might find Wikipedia:User page design center helpful. Best regards--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 01:31, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- @Fuhghettaboutit: Thank you very much for your assistance. GeekInItsPurestForm (talk) 03:16, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
Use of "etc" - is there a guideline?
[edit]I have noticed "etc" is used sometimes in Wikipedia, but doesn't this go against the principles if it's not obvious what the "etc" means? Wondering if there's any guidance on this - I can't find anything in the help pages (the example I'm looking at is Packaging and labeling, where there are several instances). Cheers! Tony Holkham (talk) 00:38, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- I'm not aware of any specific guideline on the use of "etc", Tony Holkham, and i don't think we need one. I would say that, in general, clearer and less ambiguous writing is preferred. If you fell you can rewrite an article to improve its clarity, while still staying within what cited sources support, feel free to go ahead and be WP:BOLD. I looked at the uses of "etc" in Packaging and labeling and I didn't find any of them particularly unclear, although no doubt they could be improved. DES (talk) 01:24, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, DES, I guess common sense comes into play here. Tony Holkham (talk) 01:48, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
Horn of africa
[edit]- Note: This appears to be about File:MapHymiariteKingdom.jpg which is included in multiple Wikipedias and here, in Horn of Africa and four other articles.--Fuhghettaboutit (talk) 01:42, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
As Somalis we are complaining about and want to be taken out the bias, inaccurate, unproportionate and selective map on the page which says ivory cinnamon and slavery. It was the somalis who had been slave owners and slave traders until the 1940s(evidence available). The way this gentleman put it would confuse the readers. This looks like a mission to stamp the somalis. We can even guess who he/she is.Shall we guess? also we have a lot of telltales about the aim of this mission. We can tell you more
kind regards

Alok Ulfat ( Reason of Deletion *
[edit]Dear Concern,
There is a page which is being deleted when it posted 2 times, The page url was www.wikipedia.org/Alok_Ulfat
Please let me know the reason of its deletion. I would like to attempt one more time. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sushilranakoti (talk • contribs) 05:08, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Viewing Alok Ulfat shows that the page was deleted in September 2012, and the reason was "One author who has requested deletion or blanked the page". If a person creates a page then blanks the page (and no one else has edited it), it is assumed that the author was conducting a test that is no longer required, and the page should be deleted. You could put a new section at User talk:Yunshui and ask the administrator who deleted the page to put the last useful version somewhere for you to reconsider. Please add a space then four tilde characters (~~~~) at the end of the last line when you post another comment; that creates a signature. Johnuniq (talk) 05:20, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
artist page has been wrongly deleted and is now redirected
[edit]The content of this artist page has been updated by his management and on 2 occasions today it has been changed. It is now totally removed and redirected to The Cat Empire's page. User DI2000 has been in contact and has ignored the messages left on his page. Can someone get in touch with us and restore Felix Riebl wikipedia's page. City of Lemberg history
[edit]Information regarding the city of Lemberg. http://books.google.com/books?id=78hZAAAAYAAJ&pg=PA794&lpg=PA794&dq=prince+danielowicz&source=bl&ots=LNzXyuzh6V&sig=abPKvZ3SUeVFejBflyVgq083kqc&hl=en&sa=X&ei=BT0RU-OsH5DaoASpw4KoCw&ved=0CCsQ6AEwAw — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.236.225.203 (talk) 06:46, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thank you. You may wish to bring the source to the article talk page Talk:Lviv. In general, we try to use the most recent scholarship available. There has been a lot of change in Lemberg/Lviv since that book was published in 1880 and much of the content may well be superseded. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 15:57, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
How to disable section edit links?
[edit]Until recently, the section [edit] links did not appear on any article pages for me. I could edit sections by right-clicking a section title. I know I must have somehow disabled the links in the past, but I can't find this option in Preferences now. Is there still a way to get rid of them? I find those links distracting and annoying. — Kpalion(talk) 08:36, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- That preference has been removed but you can add the below to your CSS. PrimeHunter (talk) 14:09, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
.mw-editsection {display: none;}
Thanks, PrimeHunter; that works fine! Still, I wonder why this preference has been removed. What was wrong with it? — Kpalion(talk) 12:42, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
- Many preferences with low usage were recently removed. I think a reason was to simplify maintenance of the core software. See Wikipedia:Village pump (technical)/Archive 123#Removed preferences and bugzilla:52811. PrimeHunter (talk) 13:16, 2 March 2014 (UTC)
Thanks! — Kpalion(talk) 17:39, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

Biography of Sampson Moore, engineer
[edit]I am trying to contact the writer of this article as they may be able to help me. I am the great, great, great granddaughter of sampson Moore and the writer of the article is abviously related as well. I would love be able to contact them. Is this possible? and how would I go about it? Pabkab — Preceding unsigned comment added by Pabkab (talk • contribs) 10:15, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Doesn't seem very likely to be possible, but I see one of your relatives is attempting the same thing at User talk:Engineers11. --Demiurge1000 (talk) 10:22, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- As this request is the only edit by your account, you may not understand the history of an article, so I will explain why Demiurge1000 is being so negative.
If you go to the page on Sampson Moore and click "View history" tab at the top, you will see that the article was created on 30 December 2011 by an editor User:Engineers11 if you then click on "contribs" after Engineers11's name you will see all the edits they made - which were all made on 30/31 December 2011.
Having only edited for 2 days, well over two years ago, it is unlikely that they will reappear. They have not answered the message left on their talk page User talk:Engineers11 by User:Moore des in February/March 2012. - Arjayay (talk) 11:12, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

I need to contact Elizium23
[edit]Can someone message this gentleman here on Wiki and have him message me as I have left a message for him and need an answer.
I am unsure who to contact him on his page. He is very informative and professional and full of good information.
Thank you Truth&law — Preceding unsigned comment added by Truth&law (talk • contribs) 11:17, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- You can contact Elizium23 by leaving a message on User talk:Elizium23 the same way you left a messgae here. GB fan 12:08, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Looking at your edit history, you have not left a message for him at User talk:Elizium23, you left an unsigned message on your own talk page, not including any link to him, so will not be notified. Having last contacted him in July 2013, your talk page is hardly likely to attract his attention. I also note he gave you a link so you can e-mail him. You need to either leave a message on his talk page, or e-mail him. - Arjayay (talk) 12:09, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
Review of My Article
[edit]Hi,
I am writing to let you know that I have created an article by February 11, then edited it. my article is under review and I do not know it is in which stage. Would you please help me and let me know the time I will receive the final review result. The link of my article is: Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/International Journal of Health Policy and Management (IJHPM)
Looking forward to receive your kind reply ASAP.
Yours Sincerely,
Mina — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mina.Moradzadeh (talk • contribs) 12:01, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- it is unlikely to be approved anytime soon no matter when it is actually reviewed. there is no evidence that it meets the requirements for a stand alone article: that independent reliable sources have written about it in a significant manner, and so the review is going to decline. In addition, the formatting is a mess with about a gazillion inappropriate external links in the body of the article. Those will all need to be removed. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:09, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- in addition, the piece reads as an advertisement, not an encyclopedia article. all addresses to the reader (" gives you this opportunity to " ) will need to be removed. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 13:31, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Wikipedia is not a link repository, and it's not a place to promote a product. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, it contains encyclopedia articles. Your content is merely a paragraph describing a product (that "sources" its own website) and a directory of links, it is not an encyclopedia article. I suggest you glance at WP:COI before attempting a rewrite, as well. Scarce2 (talk) 13:40, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
Formatting weirdness
[edit]The Yonsei University article's header seems to display its name in italics, for no reason I can understand. I've looked for the usual ways in which an article might display an italicised title, such as the DISPLAYTITLE or {{italic title}} mechanisms, and can find nothing. Possibly this is happening through a template side effect, but I can't see it. Does anyone know how this is happening? -- The Anome (talk) 14:07, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Fixed with
italic title = no
in {{Infobox magazine}}.[1] PrimeHunter (talk) 14:13, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks! -- The Anome (talk) 15:28, 1 March 2014 (UTC)

[edit]How has the supreme value of human life and human blood and human dignity been forgotten in our day and age? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.66.15.13 (talk) 15:07, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
- Please do your own homework.
- Welcome to Wikipedia. Your question appears to be a homework question. I apologize if this is a misinterpretation, but it is our aim here not to do people's homework for them, but to merely aid them in doing it themselves. Letting someone else do your homework does not help you learn nearly as much as doing it yourself. Please attempt to solve the problem or answer the question yourself first. If you need help with a specific part of your homework, feel free to tell us where you are stuck and ask for help. If you need help grasping the concept of a problem, by all means let us know.
- Oh and please don't repeat the same question three times - thanks - Arjayay (talk) 15:18, 1 March 2014 (UTC)
