[edit]The page I had created Alihan Demir was rejected. Could you please consider it again. The page is about a basketball player who plays in NCAA from TURKEY. The information put up was quite relevant and were from verified sources. He is quite notable actually and he will play in Eurocup or Euroleague in this season. Waiting for your helps. How to change logo

Stating volatile current facts in Wikipedia
[edit]A particular problem of editing a volatile current fact on Wikipedia has led me to look for general guidelines about this, but I can't find them. My first question is: when is it legitimate to express as an absolute fact a fact that is merely current? For example, if an article states "The website has 450,000 users" or an infobox says "Alexa rank: 24,123", these are expressions of absolute fact, even though the fact is liable to change. For a future reader such statements may well be false and misleading. My second question is: does Wikipedia already have general guidelines that cover such cases? - @Mrmedley: It would be appropriate to provide a reliable source for the fact, and add a date in the text and an
|access-date=
in the reference indicating when you read the fact. While "Alexa rank: 24,123" will eventually change, "Alexa rank: 24,123 (as of Apr 2020)" would always be correct. One step further would be to use Template:As of in the article to encourage other editors to help keep the fact up to date. GoingBatty (talk) 04:58, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
How to warn editors about possible COI
[edit]Hi there! I've recently seen a single-purpose accounts that has almost exclusively edited a single, semi-obscure article over a long period of time. I have a suspicion that they may have a conflict of interest (partially because their edits also seem a bit biased/promotional or based heavily off of primary sources). Is this enough of a reason to leave a template like {{uw-coi}} on their user talk page?
I don't want to suggest someone might have a conflict of interest without enough reason (mostly because I don't know if that's considered bad wiki etiquette). But I also want to know what's the usual process for starting these conversations with longer-term editors (or what has worked well for other editors in the past). Page reverted - where to find it an correct it
[edit]Hi good people - I recently created the page Alter Echo (album). It's the name of the fourth studio album by the rock band Dizzy Mizz Lizzy. The page was shortly reverted and made a Redirect to the main page about the band. I don't know why that is. I have contacted the admin responsible, but he/she has ignored me and answered other users instead. - @Kmilling: Hello, the redirect was restored as the article you created was just a tracklisting and a release date; there was little if anything to demonstrate notability... see WP:NMUSIC for more information. It was also without references as noted in the edit summary when the page was restored. You did the correct thing in attempting to contact the other editor (not an admin. as far as I am aware) and it would have been good if they'd responded but it was a relatively short time ago. Pinging JalenFolf in case they wish to comment here.
- It may have been premature to create the page into mainspace and expect others to finish it for you. It would probabably have been better to begin with a draft via WP:AFC or WP:WIZ and develop an article as and when more reliably sourced information was available. Hi Eagleash - Can I reactivate the reverted page myself and add proper and valid references? I will certainly consider using WP:AFC or WP:WIZ i the future (I'm still learning the advanced rules of the English Wikipedia). Kmilling
- @Kmilling: I would not recommend overwriting the existing redirect. As things stand the topic does not demonstrate notability and there would be a strong possibility that it would just be redirected again. Use WP:WIZ and start a draft. You could use the wording in existence at the redirect (old version) as a start. If you copy and paste it to the new draft you should probably attribute it by an edit summary like "copied from Alter Echo (album), version dated xx/xx/xxxx). When it is ready, you can submit it for review, (to do this you place
{{subst:submit}}
at the top of the source. A reviewer will delete or request deletion of, the existing redirect to make way. - By way of information, notability cannot be supported by MusicBrainz, Facebook, Discogs.com, Spotify, IMDb, Amazon, blogs or a band's or label's self-published PR. AllMusic only counts as support for notability if the site publishes a review of the album by one of its professional staff, and not if the album just has a purely WP:ROUTINE track listing. Hi, Kmilling, in response to "where to find it an correct it": Click or tap the link for Alter Echo (album). At the top of the Dizzy Mizz Lizzy page, you should see a line "(Redirected from Alter Echo (album))". Use that link to get to the actual redirect page and access its History, Talk, etc. You can then copy the text to somewhere like your user space to work on it. - @JACK TRAINER: Hello, are you referring to Category:Scottish expatriate footballers? If so, this is for persons with a Wikipedia article and inclusion is by adding the category to the list at the end of the individual article. I cannot see that Wikipedia has an article Jack Trainer, so it is not posiible or appropriate for the name to be included. If that doesn't work, you can always request a review at WP:DRV. - (edit conflict) @Invader2580: It appears the page was deleted as a copyright infringement. Wikipedia cannot accept content copied from elsewhere, this will typically be quickly deleted and users who add copy-vio can easily lose editing privileges. If you can begin a new draft using your own words and referenced to reliable sources and submit it for review, Wikipedia will reconsider. If this author is truly notable, Wikipedia would like a properly written article about them. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 11:02, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
FYI - POSSIBLE ERRONEOUS WEBSITE
[edit]Performed a search on Bing.com for "Saturn Planet" and usually where a "Wikipedia" link would be was a link for "Witchipedia" instead. - @Sharky2803: What you're seeing is probably the result of search engine optimization aka SEO. But happily, Bing also displays a prominent information card to the right with excerpted data from the Wikipedia article, and a link to us. So, while witchipedia's SEO wanes and waxes (with the influence of Mercury?), Wikipedia link is likely to stay. ☆ Bri (talk) 16:36, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
Removal of Maintenance Template

My name is "Ashton Nichols." Several years ago, I was contacted by a colleague who told me that there were numerous errors of fact, detail, and editing in a Wikipedia Page under my name ("Ashton Nichols"), a page that I had not created or had any role in creating.
When I went to the page "Ashton Nichols" for the first time, I noted that there were errors of the kind that my colleague had noted. At that time, I did not realize that Wikipedia disproved of a person too close to the subject of the entry--or the subject him- or herself--having editorial input into that page. As a result, I periodically began correcting and adding to the detail of the page under my name.
Now that I see the maintenance template indicating that an editor involved in the page is too close to the subject (in fact IS the subject), I am more than willing to stop having any role whatsoever in the future of the "Ashton Nichols" entry. However, I do not know how to contact an editor--whom I assume should not be close to me, or even known to me--who can accept my new understanding and can see to the removal of the maintenance template.
In addition, I currently see nothing in the current entry that constitutes a subjective evaluation or a biased view. If I am mistaken in this, I am more than willing to have an objective editor remove any such details.
Can you help me with these requested editorial actions. Please let me know how you advise me to proceed, or what you can do to see to the removal of the maintenance template.

Per Wikipedia:About_you#Concerns, there are several things you can do when you see errors of fact at Ashton Nichols, including posting suggestions and reliable sources at Talk:Ashton Nichols, using the "Biographies of living persons" noticeboard, and sending an email to the confidential help line. How to get a bot to stop editing a page?
[edit]The bot user:JJMC89_bot keeps removing an image from the Balconville page. Balconville is a play, and the image is the book cover from the book in which the script for the play was published. My understanding of WP's fair use rules is that this use of the image is allowed. I have posted to the bot's talk page, the owner's talk page, and the article's talk page; but no human has responded. - You need to follow the instructions on File:Balconville.jpg. You can't just say "this file is fair use"; you need to give an full and detailed explanation as to why this image is necessary for this particular article. In this case, I'd suggest using {{Non-free use rationale book cover}} and filling in the fields as necessary; you basically need to demonstrate that all 10 of the points here are met, otherwise the image can't be used. ‑ Iridescent 18:42, 11 April 2020 (UTC)
- I chose that license when I uploaded the image. I've uploaded many album cover images over the years and I've never been required to then restate the license text again and provide a link backwards to the article. - You may think it's a waste of time, but it's a legal requirement; if you don't provide a non-free rationale for each article on which the image is to be used (as you have done on every other fair-use image you've ever uploaded so you're obviously already aware), the image can't be used in that article. - Santoshdts While you technically could do so, I would advise against it. It's better for the draft and better for you to work out any issues before your draft is formally part of the encyclopedia.
