[edit]Fix the reference of 1995 in Greece
[edit]Could help me fix the reference of Greece in 1995 for adding as Adjutant of the Hellenic Navy? He served with the President of the Hellenic Republic Constantinos Stephanopoulos (1995–1999). 108.21.67.83 (talk) 00:46, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Done, the accessdate of September 24, 2023 was causing one of the error messages since it's only September 17, 2023. The other error message was because there was a blank line in the middle of the reference title. Cmr08 (talk) 01:25, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you very much. 108.21.67.83 (talk) 01:54, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
"Spinoffs" in discography page
[edit]Should "spinoffs" be listed on a artists/bands discography page? Like Hawaii: Part II in Tally Hall. - From Dents (talk) 01:33, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- No. It wasn't done by the band. Clarityfiend (talk) 04:08, 20 September 2023 (UTC)
SVG question
[edit]At File:Cricket, 2022 Asian Games.svg, which I extracted from pdf using Inkscape, why when viewing through Media Viewer the ball on the right look cropped out. It looks fine when clicking "Original file" at that file page. Hddty (talk) 03:24, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Hddty The experts on .svg files have a Help Desk at WP:SVG help, which would be a good place to ask if you don't get a quick reply here. Mike Turnbull (talk) 10:51, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, I have reposted this at Wikipedia:SVG_help#SVG_cropped_out_on_Media_Viewer. Hddty (talk) 13:55, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
Edit war
[edit]Hello! Trying to avoid an edit war by not undoing recent revisions to two schools by the same user: [[1]] [[2]] that I previously undid. My original edits were removing unsourced content, and adding citations to the content I could find sources for.
I've noticed the other editors history is all the same and after googling their username I believe they may be conencted with the Diocese of Lismore Catholic Schools Office which the school's they're editing may come under. I've asked about the username just now, but this justifies to me more that I'm right to undo their edit. However, I still know this would count as an edit war even if I feel I'm justified, so what is the best way to proceed from here? Thank you. -- NotCharizard 🗨 06:55, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Although this is pretty minor in comparison to other users listed in the page I’m about to mention, it may be suitable for this situation to be placed in WP:AN/I, as this seems like POV-pushing, especially considering the potential long-term link between the user and the article subject, as well as the consistency of reverts. — Mugtheboss (talk) 13:57, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- This user has been making edits to similar articles as mentioned since 2019. — Mugtheboss (talk) 13:59, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- The first thing is to try to talk to them. The user name and contributions history suggests undisclosed paid editing so I have posted a standard warning on their talk page. The user name also suggests a shared account, which is also not allowed, but I have left that till later. You posted on their talk page on 11 September and they seem to have replied as an IP, we have both posted today and hopefully they will reply in the next few days. TSventon (talk) 14:39, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Notcharizard, the COI account has now been blocked, so you may as well revert their disputed edits. Hopefully they will be able to return with a better understanding of the COI policy. TSventon (talk) 13:45, 20 September 2023 (UTC)

Redundant redirect
[edit]There is an old redirect here that could probably be deleted (and by the same logic, perhaps the Catherine (White) Coffin article should be renamed "Catherine White Coffin"). [NB: I'd do this myself if I were 100% confident about not inadvertently breaking something.] Cheers, Cl3phact0 (talk) 09:08, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Cl3phact0, I have moved the page to the parenthesis-free title. —Kusma (talk) 09:38, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
Searching in titles - Am I missing something?
[edit]A few times recently, I’ve wanted to search for multiple words within titles of pages on Wikipedia — e.g., earlier today, I wanted to get a list of all the pages that include the words ‘lgbt’ and ‘activist’ (case-insensitivity) somewhere in their title.
Due to intitle:
seemingly not supporting multiple parameters (or - if it does - me
not knowing how to use it), I ended up doing this via a query on Quarry instead (quarry:query/76626), which worked fine (hopefully!) after a bit of tinkering.
However, it’s just left me wondering if I’m missing some really obvious easier way of doing searches like this!
Best, user:A smart kittenmeow 11:17, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @A smart kitten You can combine intitle: searches as in this example The output is not precisely and "AND" between the two intitle searches: it finds either "lgbt" or "activist" in the title, with the other term occurring anywhere in the article. See H:INTITLE Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:40, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Michael D. Turnbull Thanks for that! If I wanted an exact ‘AND’ search, do you think using Quarry as I did would be my best bet? Thanks again, user:A smart kittenmeow 11:48, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- I'm no expert on Quarry but you seem to be on the right lines. My personal approach would be to do the simpler intitle search, followed by a visual scan of the results, assuming the output wasn't too large. Although I've written SQL in the past, I haven't investigated it for Wikipedia queries. Mike Turnbull (talk) 11:56, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @A smart kitten: intitle:"activist" intitle:"lgbt" does search for both terms in titles but it includes redirecting titles. I don't think you can exclude redirects. Confusingly, the search results page may display a hit in the body instead of the redirect hit which caused the entry. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:30, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

Blackmailed by Wikipedia Administrator (supposed)
[edit]Dear community, Recently I was contacted by someone on LinkedIn who claims to be a Wikipedia administrator.
He told me to disapprove my draft wikipedia page, unless I pay him 50 USD.
Is this normal?
What can I do if he disapproves the page?
Many thanks in advance for your input! Sandarto445 (talk) 14:54, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @Sandarto445: This is almost certainly a scam. Do not pay. —Kusma (talk) 14:58, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

- Many thanks! I already replied the alleged Wikipedia administrator on LinkedIn and told him that I will report him. His answer: "fuck you". ---After I blocked and reported him on LinkedIn, he disappeared as member of LinkedIn. Sandarto445 (talk) 15:19, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Reporting them will do no good as they lie about being admins, sometimes even claiming to be a specific admin that they are not. Beeblebrox (talk) 16:19, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Good on you for not paying, seeing scammers get angry when things don’t go their way will always be amusing to me. — Mugtheboss (talk) 17:40, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

Autoconfirmed
[edit]Hi How do you get autoconfirmed? 27bchao1 (talk) 15:19, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @27bchao1, an account needs to be at least four days old and have at least 10 edits to reach autoconfirmed status (WP:AUTOCONFIRMED). 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:26, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Can you check if I reached the criteras? 27bchao1 (talk) 15:29, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @27bchao1, no, you have not, your account is still too new. Why do you need autoconfirmed status? 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:32, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Can you check if I reached the criteras? 27bchao1 (talk) 15:29, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @27bchao1.
- You have already passed the edit requirements, however your account is only a day old (as it was created yesterday). You should have autoconfirm status by September 20. Regards. 🛧Midori No Sora♪🛪 ( ☁=☁=✈) 15:29, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Ok Thanks I will wait I just wanna upload something but it needs to be auto confirmed. 27bchao1 (talk) 15:47, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @27bchao1, what are you trying to upload? Free content is hosted over at Wikimedia Commons; non-free content needs to follow the non-free content criteria, which are quite complicated even for folks who've been around awhile. Have you reviewed the criteria? 199.208.172.35 (talk) 15:51, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Yes it is non-free so I have read criteria but says I need to be auto confirmed. 27bchao1 (talk) 15:55, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- @27bchao1: If you need your file uploaded before you are autoconfirmed, you can try Wikipedia:Files for upload. —Kusma (talk) 16:09, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- I know that but I think I will just wait. 27bchao1 (talk) 16:19, 18 September 2023 (UTC)

Reliable source?
[edit]Is Wiki Counsellor a legitimate business for Wikipedia page building? 184.183.112.23 (talk) 18:18, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- Per this, they are one branch of a very dodgy, repeatedly blocked paid editing operation. Don't give them your money, fellow IP editor. 199.208.172.35 (talk) 18:39, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- I'm afraid that a "Legitimate business for Wikipedia Page building" probably does not exist. If you find someone claiming to be able to create a Wikipedia article for you, they are most likely a scam or very unknowledgeable about the policies here. Like the previous editor said, do NOT give them your money. Industrial Insect (talk) 18:34, 19 September 2023 (UTC)
Help with editing
[edit]I am trying to expand a table on the page Draft:List of Broadway productions by year. I used the the "insert below" button to add rows, but for some reason the rows are coming in the same colour as the header, how do I fix this?
Secondarily, what is the best way to add The complete book of 2000s Broadway musicals as a reference, additional details on the book available https://archive.org/details/completebookof200000diet/mode/2up, thanks for your help. Refined Elegance (talk) 20:44, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
- You use VisualEditor. I don't know whether it's possible there. In the source editor I changed "!" to "|". See more at Help:Basic table markup. PrimeHunter (talk) 21:38, 18 September 2023 (UTC)
