What, Where, When, and How?

[edit]
  • What? : DC Wiki(p|m)edian meetup
  • When? : Saturday, September 6, 2008 — 5 p.m. until it ends
  • How? : See the directions.
  • Where? : (Tentative) Uno's at Union Station.

Where

[edit]

Uno's is at Union Station, one level up from the main floor.

Unless there is some objection, we'll use the last location. ffm 00:29, 30 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

If there is, please discuss on the talk page.

Attending

Yes

[edit]
And I am confirming that I will be able to make this one on the 6th. Staeiou (talk) 18:21, 16 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Those indicating interest at meetup.wikipedia.com

[edit]

From the old page (still relevant):

Would someone (ideally) post a meeting notice at this page, since there seem to be people using meetup.com to find out about Washington, D.C. meetings? Or figure out editor names and post invitations at user talk pages? -- John Broughton (♫♫) 21:29, 26 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Sadly it costs money to post info there. ffm 05:36, 4 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I don't think so - you just have to register to be a member. As far as I can see, meetup.com gets its revenues from ads, not from payments from members. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 15:11, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
However, according to http://wikipedia.meetup.com/create/ (the only way to notify ppl of meetups on that site) it requires you to choose a monthly plan, of which "free" is not an option. ffm 16:42, 6 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Sorry, misread - the page I pointed to is of people waiting to join a Wikipedia meetup group, and that does cost money to create. So let me rephrase this - it would be nice if someone would individually notify these ten people of the next meeting. -- John Broughton (♫♫) 17:54, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I want to come, but I need a ride

[edit]

I'm potentially able to give people rides if needed. SWATJester Son of the Defender 05:06, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Nope, but let me know about future events

Directions

[edit]

From the last meetup page:

Union Station is also a stop on Metro's Red Line. From the description for Meetup 2:

The DC metro system is one of the highest regarded public transportation systems in the United States. Normally this isn't saying much, but the system is rather good. All directions given will be provided in terms of the Washington Metro system. Note that there is also a decently-sized parking lot at Union Station itself, so you may just want to drive all the way in. Beware, however, that it can get quite crowded and the prices may be steep.
Several Stations, including Silver Spring, Landover and others have significant amounts (as in hundreds of spaces) of parking, and it's free on weekends.

Metro does allow bicycles on trains during off-peak times, and this being on a Saturday, it qualifies as off-peak.

The rest of the comment has been clipped, as it is not applicable to this meeting. ffm 00:29, 30 July 2008 (UTC) SchuminWeb (Talk) 04:25, 7 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Don't worry about the rain

[edit]

Union station is a metro stop, and so you can take the metro in, attend the meeting, and metro out, and not get wet. SWATJester Son of the Defender 05:06, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

However Metro is advising us to stay home,[1] so use your judgement on this. -Arch dude (talk) 13:52, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From the article: "Metro Stations known to have flooding issues include the following: Smithsonian, Federal Triangle, Cleveland Park, King Street, Southern Avenue, Navy Yard, Stadium-Armory, Foggy Bottom and Largo Town Center" ffm 17:03, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I will still be there.... Newyorkbrad (talk) 17:22, 6 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I for one am not too concerned. Right now, it's raining like heck, but there's no wind at all. Also, "flooding issues" doesn't necessarily mean the stations will flood, but where water has been observed reaching curb level in the nearby streets.
