[edit]The Kansas City Public Library VISTA Project will be holding our MLK Day of Service virtually this year by hosting a Wikipedia Edit-A-Thon. We invite the public to help us create and edit Wikipedia pages for local, historic black leaders in activism, politics, arts, and culture.
No Wikipedia experience necessary; training session is virtual at 6pm. To participate you don’t need specialized knowledge of these topics or of Wikipedia. Please create a free user account on wikipedia.org before the event if you are able. There will be plenty of reference material and a limited number of laptops available.
Register
[edit]Free with registration. To register, reserve tickets online.

[edit]- Dashboard
- Directly because of this edit-a-thon, two people became new Wikipedians and their first edits became major contributions that attracted wider support from several Wikipedians on the same day. TheFactFairy developed a mastery of newspapers.com (from WP:LIBRARY) for weeks of deep research and huge expansion of Hiram Young in collaboration with Smuckola. Amoncure created several short but viable articles on this day, including G. Lawrence Blankinship Sr. and Minnie Lee Crosthwaite (featured on Wikipedia's Main Page in DYK), in collaboration with voidxor, Smuckola, and others unrelated to the edit-a-thon.
