Wikipedia:Meetup/UNC/ComicsandDiversity 2017
The SILS Library at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill is excited to host a Wikipedia edit-a-thon celebrating comics and diversity on March 30, 2017. Join us for an evening of social Wikipedia editing in the School of Information and Library Science Library.
At the edit-a-thon, which is open to the public, we will create and improve Wikipedia articles for diverse comics creators and characters. All are invited, with no specialized knowledge of the subject or Wikipedia editing experience needed. At 5pm, Ben Bolling and Laurel Foote-Hudson will discuss the portrayal of underrepresented groups in superhero comics in a talk entitled “We Can Be Heroes: Superhero Comics and Diversity." Following the talk, there will be a brief workshop on the basics of Wikipedia editing. We will have library resources and a list of suggested topics on hand to get you started!
