Wiki Loves Monuments is an international photography contest that is taking place in September. All it takes is a camera and the internet—take some photos of a monument or two and upload them to Wikimedia Commons to enter the contest! There will be chances to win both nationally and internationally; the winners of the national contest will go on to be judged with other nations' winners by an international panel. Even if you're not in it to win, taking pictures of monuments and uploading them to Wikimedia Commons is a great way to make them available to people around the world!
If you're curious about the monuments around you, Wikimedians have already put together a list of monuments by state and territory, and you can see everything that's ripe for photographing in your area!
Throughout the month of September, Wikimedia DC will be hosting a series of meetups in public places to upload pictures, edit articles, and hang out. Just bring your computer, camera, and connecting cord from your camera to your computer, and join us!
If you have any suggestions on other locations where we should meet, please add them below. The location should provide free wi-fi and allow people to snack while working on their computers.
Our last meetup, which will take place on last day of September, will be a little celebration. If you have an idea for where we can hold it, please add it below.
Alternatively, if you have any other suggestions for other events we can do, please add them to the list of general suggestions!
