Freefall (webcomic)

One of the longest-running webcomics on the Internet, Freefall, has been deleted from Wikipedia twice over the years due to lack of notability. I'm placing this back into contention for undeletion one more time, using this as my justification:

"If you are not a fan of Freefall you ought to be. Alas, it really will involve some time because it is a serial story, and the current panels are shocking — that is, they have a total surprise that I do not think many readers saw coming...The story is well developed and very logically constructed. I’d like to see it win a Hugo. It’s really good." -- Dr. Jerry Pournelle, March 2, 2014, http://www.jerrypournelle.com/chaosmanor/forced-sale-of-crimea-learning-math-prince-igor-and-the-hearing-log-continues/

The original AfD discussion: Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Freefall (webcomic) -Modemac (talk) 12:11, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

@Modemac: For articles deleted via AFD, your first step toward restoration should always be to contact the administrator who closed the AFD and deleted the article, in this case Stifle. You may have a decent argument above to suggest that new information now justifies inclusion of the topic in Wikipedia. We won't overturn an AFD by request on this page unless Stifle agrees it's OK. ~Amatulić (talk) 17:47, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
Noted, I'll be contacting hiim. -- Modemac (talk) 19:31, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
You realise he has no contributions since mid-September, right? There should probably be a fallback in the process if the admin isn't available. Adam Cuerden (talk) 19:37, 3 October 2014 (UTC)
So, send him email or wait. Stifle has been known to be away for extended periods (see contribution history), and there is no deadline here. ~Amatulić (talk) 20:52, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

That article is a long way from being accepted. It looks too much like an advertisement, has too many embedded external links instead of references, and doesn't show evidence of significant coverage by multiple independent reliable sources. ~Amatulić (talk) 20:57, 3 October 2014 (UTC)

  • Not done This is currently up for deletion at AfD at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Televidenye Thedkunghat. You will need to go there to argue for inclusion. However, I do note that your username is a COI since it kind of insinuates that you are editing on behalf of an organization (Phinbella Micronation Television) so I am going to block that account name. You will have to either create a new account that represents you as a person or request an unblock with a new username. Also, since there is potential that this station is a hoax, you will need to show evidence that this TV service exists as well as to show notability. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 09:44, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Not done - this article has not been restored because it does not appear to meet our guidelines for inclusion of articles about companies. In general, Wikipedia considers a topic to be notable if there exist multiple reliable sources of information on the topic, external to the subject itself. Articles concerning companies will be deleted on sight if they are considered to be unambiguous advertising or promotion, or if they do not contain a credible assertion of the significance of the subject. As per the request above, this reason is exactly what Wikipedia is not about the panda ₯’ 17:24, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

Not done. It wasn't deleted for lack of sources (although that could have been a reason to delete it), it was deleted for being an advertisement. It doesn't matter that it was a translation. It is not acceptable for the English Wikipedia without a complete re-write. Also, it is best that people associated with the company refrain from writing about it on Wikipedia, in compliance with our WP:COI guideline. ~Amatulić (talk) 20:17, 4 October 2014 (UTC)

File:Spinning under the Zilker Holiday Tree.JPG

This image along with "File:Zilker Holiday Tree.JPG" and "File:Standing under the Zilker Holiday Tree.jpg" were removed, because (according to my talk page) I had failed to provide enough information about their source. I took these pictures myself, and am willing to give Wikipedia permission to use it. I will just need help in how to get these pictures back in the article. Sorry it has taken me years to notice that further action was needed. I guess I had not logged into wikipedia with my user name for a while. -Matt Graham (talk) 02:52, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

"Permission for Wikipedia to use it" is not sufficient. You must either declare that the photo is in the public domain, or release it under an allowable free license. If you want it in the public domain, say so and I can restore it with that information. If you want to release it irrevocably under a free license like CC-by-SA or GFDL, you must send an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org using WP:CONSENT as a template. If the image is published anywhere else, you must prove your identity as the photographer too. ~Amatulić (talk) 03:58, 5 October 2014 (UTC)

Draft:Years & Years

The article was deleted for copyright infringement, when I in fact wrote the description on last.fm (it made sense to use the bio i'd written for Wikipedia). I think the problem therefore is that last.fm went live before the article was reviewed on Wikipedia. I am the author of the last.fm bio, meaning there is no copyright infringement. This being the case, is there any way that this can be undeleted? -Jamellis (talk) 13:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

Not done @Jamellis: This was requested before, above, and the request was declined. There is no way copyrighted material can be restored unless the Wikimedia Foundation knows that the content is released under an acceptable free license. Yes, it was a copyright violation because it duplicated content from another website, and we can't rely on the word of some random user account claiming they own the copyright and therefore need no permission to reproduce the content here.
If you wrote it originally, you can write it again in different words.
Or, you can post a notice on the last.fm page that the content is public domain, or releasable under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported license. ~Amatulić (talk) 22:25, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

@Ajecr: Change your username first, as has been requested of you on your talk page, a request that you have ignored. Organizations cannot have Wikipedia accounts. An account must represent only one person as an individual. You can specify "yourname at AJECR" for a new username if you wish to retain the connection with your organization. Go to WP:CHU/Simple to request the change. Then we can entertain your request to restore an article draft that has been repeatedly rejected already. Show us you're serious. ~Amatulić (talk) 22:06, 2 October 2014 (UTC)
@Ajecr: Please do not add more requests to the bottom of the page. Making more requests is unnecessary and you only need to ask once. If you want to draw more attention to your request, you can always ping one of the administrators that has previously responded to the request by writing {{ping|username}}. Also, I note that your username change has been rejected because it was already taken, so you will need to choose a new one. I'd recommend "Masad at AJECR", as it would pass our username guidelines and would likely not be already taken. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:03, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Salomée Trudel

I need to retrieve the material -HatchCloud (talk) 05:51, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

  • @HatchCloud: The article has multiple issues. The article doesn't really show how she merits an article, but most importantly the article was written in a very promotional manner, which is likely because it would be considered WP:COPYVIO from this site. Please understand that we cannot accept material that has been published elsewhere, regardless of whether or not it is in another language. Since the article was so closely paraphrased from the French source, there's not much we could give you from the English translation that isn't already in the French article and you'd still have to re-write the piece as a whole in order to meet our neutrality and copyright guidelines, so I'm not sure how much help that would be. I can e-mail you a copy of the English version, but we cannot restore it. If you want a copy, just reply here with {{ping|Tokyogirl79}} Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 10:13, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

  • Done. I've restored the article and replaced the deletion tag. What it basically means is that an article on a living person has to have at least one reliable independent source or it will be deleted. Right now adding such a source is more important than updating the profile for newer films. Once a source has been added you may remove the tag yourself or ask someone else to do it (asking in this thread will work fine or you can leave a message on my talk page). I've also toned down some of the wording, as the old revisions were much too promotional for Wikipedia. We want to clearly and neutrally summarize the verifiable facts about a subject. If the article looks like it could just as easily be on the "about page" for their official website, it's probably too promotional. Protonk (talk) 16:32, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

American Fashion Podcast

I'm not sure the reason stated for deletion of this page is accurate or fair. The reason stated was "unambiguous advertising," and "and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic," but I don't think I was promoting anything, I just wanted to document the series and have a list of the guests all in one place. I copied the format almost exactly from The Nerdist Podcast page (The Nerdist Podcast), and I can't see any major difference in what I posted and how that is set up. American Fashion Podcast exists, it's has 20 episodes and adds more weekly, and it has three hosts... I really was not trying to promote the show, I just want a public record of its existence. -Fashiontechguru (talk) 23:49, 6 October 2014 (UTC)

Not done. The template you used to set up the article is not relevant here. It is also not relevant what WP:OTHERSTUFF might exist on Wikipedia; each article stands or falls on its own merits independent of any other article. Your very own words "I just want a public record of its existence" indicate that the article existed only for publicity purposes. This was further indicated by the fact that no evidence of significant coverage by multiple reliable independent sources was provided (unlike The Nerdist Podcast which is well-sourced), only an iTunes link. ~Amatulić (talk) 03:51, 7 October 2014 (UTC)

  • We don't restore A7 articles, but this article also had issues with promotion as well and could have been deleted under WP:G11. I'll be honest: it's very, very unlikely that this will ever be restored as it was originally written. What also doesn't help is that it doesn't seem like you've ever held an actual pageant so far. The existence of a company, organization, or event does not automatically mean that it passes notability guidelines as existence is not notability. I would suggest that you wait until the event is held and gains substantial coverage in independent and reliable sources. So far I don't really see where the pageant has truly received any in-depth coverage to show that it is ultimately notable enough for an entry. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 05:56, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

@Fruterman: Not done - this page was deleted in accordance with criterion for speedy deletion A7. If you believe that this decision was made in error, or that significant new information has come to light since the deletion, please contact the administrator who carried out the deletion. If you have already done so, your concerns can be taken to deletion review. It's a common mistake perhaps, but articles about companies must meet the inclusion guidelines and lists/comparisons generally only include entries for which Wikipedia already has an article. In any case, there's nothing there to restore - it was half a paragraph of unsourced information. If you want to create an article about the company, you should be using a draft or Articles for Creation. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 18:13, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Reason A9 is wrong: this pages is related to the Avatar (Band) -145.226.158.81 (talk) 10:31, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Not done For now. The original deletion as A9 was appropriate, because the band article did not exist at that point (March 2009). The second deletion was because someone created and then blanked it. The original content is nothing more than a track listing, and while we have thousands of articles about albums that are nothing but track listings, they must meet the notability guidelines to begin with. If you provide a review or some other reliable source that could be used to establish notability, we can consider restoring it. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 18:18, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Circe Films

Hey there, I'm completely new to the Wikipedia editing; I tried to contact Alexf a long time, but I couldn't find the page where I could to talk to him... Originally this page was deleted because there was content of promotion of a company placed in the page, I think?

The first problem was that I first made a account that had the company's name CirceFilmsNL, I completely wasn't aware that such pages weren't allowed on Wikipedia, so I made another account; StienetteBosklopper. But then I realised that the name of the new account could also get linked to the company. That's why I made this account, so that I could edit the page on my own name and couldn't be linked with the company, is that illegal?

Back to the main subject; The reason that I want to make a page about this company is that I want to inform what this company is and what they do, not for promotional purposes. I was trying to contact you about how I could make the page to have no promotion in it, how should I formulate the sentences etc? Because I tried to look at other company pages and try to have that on my page.

I hope you will/can help me to get this page online again and hopefully help me to make this page a regular, non illegal one.

Thank you for your time!

Not done Unless Jimfbleak (who deleted the article) and Alexf (who created the sockpuppet investigation that involves you) are somehow OK with it. You should go over this guideline very carefully in the meantime. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 18:31, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

New information which makes him more credible and notable. http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0006723/ https://www.facebook.com/DanielBoydAuthor 579,000 ghits when you search for "Daniel Boyd author" -14:32, 8 October 2014 (UTC)Eschaefer2 (talk)

Not done Although the original AFD is quite old, WP:GHITS, self-published sources and Facebook likes are not indicative of notability. I'd suggest creating a draft and submitting it for review. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 18:37, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Kim Beasley

We have been correcting errors and making changes, as some of them were made within the last 24 hours. We go in and fix the errors and someone goes behind us and reverses the changes. Kim Beasley's page is not to advertise her or her business. It was put up for people to see can read about her life, where she grew up, where she went to school, and where she has worked and who she has worked for. On top of the successes she has had throughout her career. Can we please get some assistance with this issue? Also can we undo the deletion of the page? Thanks. -Virtualassistexpert (talk) 19:06, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

Not done The article was deleted after a discussion and thus it's not eligible for undeletion through here. You'll have to contact the deleting admin Black Kite. Before you do that, please clarify who "we" is. I do note Mcguire2014 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) and Kbeasley (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log) tag-teamed along with you on this article, and "Virtual Assist" is the name of a company that seems to engage in "social media strategy" or something like that. I might be wrong but I see no disclosure from any of you as required by our conflict of interest guidelines. That would be a good first step. §FreeRangeFrogcroak 19:39, 8 October 2014 (UTC)

We noticed that our article was patrolled by the Wiki team and tagged for speedy deletion as it was about a person, the person that it was about is a young business man that was the Australian Young farmer of the year, noted in the Age news print in the top 100 most infulencial people in Melbourne, Victoria.

This person is bring a huge amount of positive change to a stagnant industry and we draft this article to give people further access to his biography. We posted this as a first entry and will be updating over the next 2 days.

We believe that this article is not only supported by credible references but the person is a person of interest and will continue to be a person of interest into the future. Wikipedia has a 1000s of personal bio's including some of Jan Vydra colleagues ; Rob Gell, Max Walker and many more.

Please untag consider untagging this article for deletion.

  • Not done This isn't currently up for deletion at this point. It was up for an WP:A7 speedy (non-notable person) and while that has been declined by another editor, I would recommend editing the article for tone and adding more reliable sources. The article has a fairly promotional bent and could be speedied as spam. Even if it's not, it's still possible for others to seek deletion via WP:AfD. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:22, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

  • @Dsvarga: On a side note, I do want to encourage you to re-write several parts of the article. Much of it appears to be very close copyvio of the IMDb page. Even if you have permission from the director to use the synopsis, I'd still recommend re-writing it in your own words. Also, I'd recommend looking for more and better sources. One of the sources doesn't really mention the documentary at all while at least one of the others only mentions it in passing. The other two pretty much say the same thing, so some might argue that this doesn't show a true depth of coverage. If you can find some reviews, that would help out immensely. Also, I've moved it to Draft:1971 (documentary film), as we now put AfC submissions under "Draft" headings. Tokyogirl79 (。◕‿◕。) 04:26, 9 October 2014 (UTC)

Section 4 (NYSPHSAA)

The article was received a Speedy. The deciding admin did not even leave a signature to tell us who done it. Two editors, myself and Prisencolinensinainciusol request its restoration. We would defend its notability aggressively in AfD. Hopefully it doesn't need to come to that. Now that I am aware of the situation I can make sure there are sufficient sources to display its notability, as I am currently doing on other equally notable, related sections of the NYSPHSAA. Note: The page was speedily-deleted under criterion A7. Pages deleted under that criterion are generally not undeleted because they require complete rewrites to be viable encyclopedia articles or because they violate our biographical or fair-use policies. According to the deletion log, it was RHaworth (talk · contribs) that deleted the page. An A7 is more a claim that the article did not express why the subject is notable rather than a claim it's not notable, and so A7s are not undeleted since such articles would generally need a fundamental rewrite to explain why the subject is notable. —Jeremy v^_^v Bori! 09:13, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
  • If you can supply two substantial, independent and reliable writings on the topic I will bring it back. The page said nothing important about the organisation, nor were there any references. Graeme Bartlett (talk) 09:53, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
