News about Chinese Wikipedia

[edit]

My edits are reverted. It's no big deal. Also, I received a strange and reasonable request from Justiyaya's side. Then I would like to discuss it a little with others here.

First tell @Justiyaya: Please remove my name from the edit summary, I don't like this kind of mention. This is very important, I request to remove my name.

Next on the topic, the guidelines here also do not mention that news reports can only be in English. Is it okay for me to put up Chinese media coverage of Wikipedia? I think the impact of the falsification of the entry is significant, and it concerns other language versions. The English media has not reported on this yet, so I feel it is important to include at least one source.--Beta LohmanOffice box 18:06, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Please see also User talk:Justiyaya#Wikipedia:Press coverage 2022. @Beta Lohman, I'm not sure that the removal is possible. Apologies for putting your name in the edit summary. I believe there is already one source in the page without much objection. Justiyaya 18:21, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You may ask the admin to delete it, figure it out. --Beta LohmanOffice box 18:28, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is no rule that non-English press can't be added. But the items on this page should be what can be reasonably be called "press", like the remaining China Press (see also text at top of [1]) That excludes blogs and other WP:SPS, there is a separate page for blogs.
Also, when adding non-English items consider using the "trans-title" and "quote" parameters (translate the quote to English), since that will help readers. And this may go without saying, but don't add stuff in languages you don't know yourself. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 19:17, 21 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I'll see what happens with the translation of the quotation. The whole article is about the Chinese Wikipedia, and the full-text translation will take up a lot of space.--Beta LohmanOffice box 15:04, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I didn't mean the full text, just a fitting quote like you see with the other items on the page. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:59, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
I will add this article from HK01. After all, it also makes a slight reference to the English Wikipedia.--Beta LohmanOffice box 15:03, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@Beta Lohman, you may want to mention the ancient Rus' thing to the Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost people at Wikipedia:Wikipedia Signpost/Newsroom/Suggestions. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 15:52, 22 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
@EpicPupper Justiyaya 03:56, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
There is no reason at all for Justiyaya to remove your username from their edit summary. ––FormalDude talk 22:25, 23 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
The talk page should stay on topic, if you want to argue with me about Justiyaya, go to his discussion page. I will not be responding to this here.--Beta LohmanOffice box 00:18, 24 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I removed them again. Simply because this page only covers news/press about Wikipedia in English. Note that the other language Wikipedias have their own press coverage sites, which collect the press coverage in their local languages. If we were to include notable non-English press articles here, it would be complete overload.--Kmhkmh (talk) 00:09, 29 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Kmhkmh: I think the report from Beijing Youth Daily may be notable? ときさき くるみ not because they are easy, but because they are hard 07:09, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]
It is/was not about notability, but that we here only collect press articles in English. The publisher or country of origin usually doesn't matter as long as it is proper press/news media, but the published article needs to be in English. Press articles in Chinese are collected in the Chinese Wikipedia (see also the language links at Wikipedia:Press_coverage).--Kmhkmh (talk) 10:46, 30 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

TimesOfIndia article on 31 august 2022

[edit]

Hi,

I am not that familiar to add to this page, can anyone add this article? https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/business/india-business/india-engineers-are-helping-to-keep-wikipedia-inclusive/articleshow/93893944.cms Kaveinthran (talk) 10:11, 23 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

@Kaveinthran, done. Assuming you're on a laptop, if you click "edit source" for a section, you should see an empty cite news template at the bottom of that section. Copypaste that, add it where it should chronologically be, fill in the data, and publish. Gråbergs Gråa Sång (talk) 13:13, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
