- @Rene Willemsen: Please slow down we are volunteers here, whilst you are being paid for your edits. COI editing is strongly discouraged on Wikipedia. It undermines public confidence and risks causing public embarrassment to the individuals and companies being promoted and I for one have no interest in helping you promote your business. Theroadislong (talk) 17:24, 21 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Theroadislong: I understand your point of view and will find the sources required, however the intro on the page (about Adler and Allan) is incorrect the correct info about Adler & Allan is :-
The Adler & Allan Group is based in the UK and specialised in oil and environmental, Emergency Response, Compliance and Asset Resilience services. Adler &Allan started trading in 1926 [1] [2]
this is not promoting the company this is merely stating what the company is about in the correct way.
- Not done this may be your preferred version, but that doesn't make it correct, please advise what is incorrect about the article's lead as it stands. Theroadislong (talk) 13:35, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
- @Theroadislong: Dear Therislong if you would look into the company history you would find that it is the correct description not just the description of 1 article, i can provide many external impartial 3rd party sources and references if needed. as said before i am not here to promote i merely like to see the correct information about Adler & Allan displayed.
- You haven't answered the question though, please advise what is incorrect about the article's lead as it stands. Theroadislong (talk) 13:45, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
My Mistake i thought i did, as it stands the incorrect information is oil industry and environmental service, it should be Compliance and Asset Resilience services and then instead of environmental clean-up operations it should say specialises in oil, environmental, Emergency Response and cleanup services. - this would provide the correct information Rene Willemsen (talk) 13:58, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
- Sorry but "Compliance and Asset Resilience services" sounds like a marketing term. Feel free to ask for second opinion at The Teahouse though. Theroadislong (talk) 15:24, 22 February 2018 (UTC)
this is a genuine service to industries and ill put it forward in the teahouse, however it would be nice to add what adler and allan specialise in- specialised in oil, environmental, Emergency Response and cleanup services as well as the Subsidiary OHES environmetnal Rene Willemsen (talk) 08:42, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
- It really isn't helpful to continually (50 plus changes) edit and change your content above after people have responded. Theroadislong (talk) 10:33, 23 February 2018 (UTC)
Paid editors must respect the volunteer nature of the project and keep discussions concise. When proposing changes to an article, they should describe the suggested modifications and explain why the changes should be made. Any changes that may be contentious, such as removal of negative text, should be highlighted. Before being drawn into long exchanges with paid editors, volunteers should be aware that paid editors may be submitting evidence of their talk-page posts to justify their salaries or fees. No editor should be expected to engage in long or repetitive discussions with someone who is being paid to argue with them. Editors who refuse to accept a consensus by arguing ad nauseam may find themselves in violation of the disruptive-editing guideline. Theroadislong (talk) 10:42, 23 February 2018 (UTC)

[edit]- Your edit request could not be implemented because the provided references are not formatted correctly.[a] The citation style predominantly used by the Adler and Allen article is Citation Style 1 (CS1). The citation style used in the edit request consists of bare URL's.[b] Any requested edit of yours which may be implemented will need to resemble the current style already in use in the article – in this case, CS1. (See WP:CITEVAR.) In the extended section below titled Citation style, I have illustrated two examples: one showing how the edit request was submitted, and another showing how requests should be submitted in the future:
Citation style
|
---|
In the example above there are three URL's provided with the claim statements, but these URL's have not been placed using Citation Style 1, which is the style predominantly used by the Adler and Allen article. Using this style, the WikiFormatted text should resemble the following:
In the example above the references have been formatted according to Citation Style 1, which shows the author, the source's name, date, etc., all information which is lost when only the links are provided. As Wikipedia is a volunteer project, edit requests such as yours are generally expected to have this formatting done before the request is submitted for review. |
Kindly resubmit the edit request below at your earliest convenience, taking care to ensure that it makes use of CS1. If you have any questions about this formatting please don't hesitate to ask myself or another editor. Regards, Spintendo 19:47, 30 June 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, I have re-submitted this request as two separate edit requests for the description section (which should now correctly use CS1, I hope) and the info box. Will N at Adler and Allan (talk) 11:16, 20 July 2023 (UTC)
Notes
- ^ The fault for this formatting error may have originated with the automated prompts used by the edit request template, which asks for a COI editor to "supply the URL of any references used". While the resulting omission of information would not be the fault of the requesting COI editor, it nevertheless remains their responsibility to supply the references formatted in the style used by the article.
- ^ The use of bare URLs as references is a style which is acceptable for use in Wikipedia. However, general practice dictates that the style already in use for an article be the one that is subsequently used for all future additions unless changed by editorial consensus.[1]

Guideline: It is normal practice to defer to the style used by the first major contributor or adopted by the consensus of editors already working on the page, unless a change in consensus has been achieved. If the article you are editing is already using a particular citation style, you should follow it.

Replace current article description section as follows.

[edit]- The claim(s) regarding the acquisition of certain companies could not be added because the companies described are not independently notable in Wikipedia.
- To proceed with the request, kindly provide the WikiLinks of the mentioned companies.[a] When ready to proceed with the requested information, kindly change the

Notes
- ^ What the reviewer is asking for here is not due to WP:N (which is not a content requirement). In this instance, the request for notability is to ensure a neutral point of view. The purchase of one company by another company represents a point of view, in that it effectively ascribes to the companies the relative importance of their purchase according to the purchaser's point of view. If the purchased companies were independently notable, that would add weight to the purchasing company's view that their purchase was important enough to be mentioned in the article. Otherwise, adding to an article several points of view on the purchase of non-notable companies may upset an article's balancing aspects.[1] Thus, this reviewer's own practice is to limit the listing of acquisitions to those which are independently notable in Wikipedia.
